san francisco producer eprom follows up his massive technoid monster >humanoid< on rwina with three tracks of bright pastel colours caked in dirt and grime. bringing it right into the sewers, these tracks combine vintage grime and modern dubstep sounds for a volatile, liquid solution that writhes and squirms uncontrollably, splashing and sloshing in toxic puddles of lfo.

for us at 1985 music, our various artists series are extremely important to us. it not only provides a great platform to celebrate music from a wide range of artists, it enables us to promote both veterans and newcomers in the scene, and to introduce them as part of our extended family.

dark, dread-infused and ready to test even the toughest of sound systems, here compa delivers three twisted, distorted and deadly electronic experiments. removing all but the most crucial elements, compa combines crushing sub-bass with skeletal percussion and chilling atmospheres to show yet again through his signature sound how less is always more. compa has received dj support from the likes of mala, toddla t, chase & status, mary-anne hobbs, youngsta, mistajam, david rodigan, shades (alix perez and eprom) hatcha, om unit and plastician among others.

edition 1 is a various artists compilation and the ninth release on alix perez 1985 music. the album is to be understood as a statement of intent as well as a snapshot where the label is right now. alix has assembled his favourite artists operating within the 85bpm / 170bpm axis and the result is a coherent album that cements ties with newcomers such as monty, deft and tsuruda whilst also bringing new light to existing relationships with fracture, ivy lab and chimpo amongst others. its an exciting time for 1985 music, an outlet thats quickly becoming known for great art across the board: be it music, clothing or design.

thus far, 1985 music has boasted a number of releases as the new home of its founder, alix perez. till date, there have been releases from alix and a select few collaborators shades w/ eprom, taso (teklife) and skeptical (exit records). it is with the release of this ep where 1985 music present themselves as a platform for new talent. perez’s vision for 1985 is “...to push and support good, forward thinking music that i believe represents the focus of 1985..”. it is with this in mind that we proudly present the ‘hold me back’ ep from toulouse’s finest - monty. monty has already had support from noisia, kasra and skeptical and can boast releases of singles on critical music and invisible recordings. this 4 track ep is mature and refreshing, and has been received well whenever played out. the music is dark, dynamic, minimal and refreshingly modern.

belgian producer alix depauw is probably best known for his long-running association with shogun audio, where he started out making drum & bass and eventually moved towards halftime and other sounds inspired by soul and r&b. he’s also collaborated on experimental bass music with eprom under the name shades. the first ep on his new 1985 music imprint, elephant dreams, is a four-tracker from depauw himself and reportedly marks a return to his drum & bass roots. it also features two collaborations with skeptical.

they say that to know where you are going, you must know where you come from. in 2008 akkachar founded the rwina label, naming it after the word for never-ending chaos in the tamazight dialect of his north african ancestors. over the next five years he let the chaos unfold, building the label into an unpredictable yet reliable power house of dance and electronic music. today he turns to his roots for his own debut release, a three-track ep inspired by and dedicated to the amazigh (or berber) culture found in moroccos rif mountains.

now.. time for some fresh fresh fresh stuff.. on subway 018 we present akkachar, a name that isnt unknown in the music circuit. his label rwina has released some of the finest artists to date. taz buckfaster, eprom, starkey, swindle, doshy are just some of the names that went through his infamous imprint. but this time the don himself steps behind the buttons and shows that releasing music isnt all he is good at. we are proud to bring you akkachars debut, a producer you will hear alot more about in the near future.

guy gerbers universally embraced single on bedrock records stoppage time became a stand out anthem of the year at the likes of cocoon at amnesia and dc10 in ibiza along with secretsundaze in london. with a number of outstanding remix interpretations released previously alongside the definitive original, now in 2009, guy gerber creates a 13 minute monster groove version in his reshuffle guise, whilst rising french star danton eeprom takes a deeply dubbed out approach with stunning results

likely ep is tims first release on tiefschwarzs souvenir label. lead track alike sounds like ivan smagghe jamming with richie hawtin in a warehouse rave in london, skirting a line between futuristic tech house and discerning electro. a live bassline holds down the groove as a trickling bleepy melody develops throughout the track. as more and more layers of elaborate sonic trickery are laid down, a driving snare jacks out the groove further before a series of effects laden breakdowns tighten the tension further and further. cowbells take the second phase of the track ever taughter before the groove emerges into a stabbing hook and pulsating synth noises that drive the dancefloor into blissed out oblivion. subtle vocals tease the ears in the background of the final strung out breakdown, never quite dominating the tune before the jacking bass and kick drop back in. ‘unlike shares a similar vibe for mixing live instruments with plug in madness. live sounding bassline and guitar lines open the track and roll out the groove before the main synth hook takes over. as the track rolls in and out of its breakdowns it lurches between reverb heavy, bleepy chaos and futuristic rhythms. think depeche mode writing an experimental instrumental on the moon in 2012 and youre halfway there. like many french artists these days tim lives and works in london and also collaborates with fellow frenchies ivan smagghe and dante eprom. he first caught the attention of vinyl sleuths with his excellent remix of db (8)s future now in 2004 and now runs his own label marketing music as well as pushing the boundaries of spacey electro flavoured tech house with his own solo material.
