strut continue their essential work with the godfather of ethio jazz, mulatu astatke, with the first official reissues of his early classics afro latin soul volumes 1 and 2 from 1966, recorded as the ethiopian quintet. arriving after astatkes life-changing years studying at berklee college in boston, the albums were the first experiments in his pioneering sound, fusing ethiopian cultural music with afro latin and jazz forms

as a logical next step after big crown’s excellent (and sunny-approved) mr. brown eyed soul compilation from september, the label has started digging into the vaults of sunny’s key-loc records label to unearth some legit soul classics – which are hard to find even in san antonio, and clean originals will cost you a pretty penny if you ever luck into one. the album has been remastered and includes original album art.
the band is tight, the sound is honest, the vocals are dusky and deep, and the album is an undeniable soul and texas music classic, ready to be discovered by a whole new generation of music fans. dive in and be ready for a permasmile, thanks to that patented sunny sound.
leuk en ko is the dutch bastard child by unit moebius members jan duivenvoorden and richard van den bogaert. creating a vault of hard to classify material from mid eighties until early nineties, it didn t get out there for whatever reason. after de snoei 1 appeared on world of rubber 3, the big follow-up is here.
exzellente northern soul compilation, nur auf vinyl erhältlich! der titel und das artwork sind angelehnt an den legendären northern soul lp sampler out on the floor tonight von 1979, der ebenfalls auf inferno erschien. mit 16 perlen, teilweise erstmals auf 180g heavyweight vinyl, darunter zwei songs (luther ingram orchestra, the crow) aus dem aktuellen northern soul kinofilm.
six years after the release of acclaimed greatest hits and rarities collection daptone gold, daptone records announces the release of daptone gold ii. where the original put a spotlight on daptones unique sonic mission, daptone gold ii reveals just how far things have come, packed with favourites from the last six years, along with tracks previously unavailable or only obtainable via 45. the release also follows daptones 2014 super soul revue, a series of shows that saw the entire daptone roster perform together, culminating in three sold out nights at the world famous apollo theater. this new double album brings fans up to date with the brooklyn label that has become a premier source of new soulful music and a model for independent labels everywhere. the double vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve and includes a 32x27 inch poster, daptone logo iron-on and download code.
secret stashs *twin cities* compilation rekindled the career of minneapolis soul singer sonny knight, who only released one 7 inch back in 1965. this album was 50 years in the making, with a new energetic & young backing band in tow his dynamic presence and vocal power quickly returned! real organic soul!
when we at rocafort records contacted legendary latin producer bobby marin our plan was to license *nitty boo boo* and *something new*, two previously unreleased tracks, for a 45 release. much to our surprise we were told by marin that those two tracks were part of an lp recorded in 1967 that had never seen the light of day. the bad news was that all the masters had been lost. by one of those amazing coincidences six months later the only existing acetate for the lp surfaced in a thrift store in pennsylvania. we couldnt believe it! finally, almost 50 years after its recording, rocafort records is proud to present this previously unreleased latin monster lp by the nitty gritty sextet. recorded by the finest musicians in the new-york latin scene, including tito puente, jimmy sabater, louie ramírez and many more, it is still a mystery to find out that this album was never released at the time despite being so good. whether you like to boogaloo, dance to the mambo or swing to the beat of the latin jazz, you are in for a treat!
while every rare groove dj/collector is familiar with the name don gardner, the average music buyer probably isnt. some of you may remember one particular song though: *i need your lovin* from 1962. performed by don gardner & dee dee ford, it climbed up to #4 on the billboard charts and even made the pop top twenty. but that aint all. what was about to follow might not have had enough penetration power to jump on the charts again, but every single song don gardner recorded in that decade had pure class.
the double vinyl lp comes in gatefold sleeve and includes a full album download code.
it is like this – tramp records know vintage funk and soul. they know what you want to hear before you know you want to hear it. hell, they even know what you want to hear before you even knew it existed. but in a world where the rediscovery of golden era 60s and 70s funk and soul has been ongoing for the best part of a quarter of a century, how can this still be possible? what is left that hasnt already been repackaged, re-released, compiled and covered to within an inch of its life? listen to feeling nice volume 2 and you will get the answer.
super loud deluxe double gatefold lp plus bonus exclusive future holy grail 7 inch single *carol veal - h way of love*.
in 2011, frootful released their debut album colours on freestyle to great acclaim, with everyone from osunlade, craig charles and diesler praising it s modern-yet-retro blend of 60s soul, rocksteady, dance floor friendly jazz and r&b, whilst jazz fm made it an album of the week. the debut single taken from it, *fish in the sea* became a club hit, and also featured in steven soderberghs hit movie magic mike.
fast forward to 2013, and guitarist nick radford and crew return with an equally eclectic collection of songs and grooves that make up the new album, heavyweight. the title originates from a soul night nick used to play 45s at, but also tips its hat to the art of producing a record, in aiming to get an authentically heavy sound down - from the writing, engineering and recording, through to the final mixing and mastering. co-producer krzysztof oktalski played a big role in getting such a sound down, himself a big northern soul collector, who worked with larry stabbins and members of portishead on his stonephace album (on tru thoughts).
numero 047 eccentric soul: the forte label charts kansas city yeomans work, the carpets and the derbys, dapper clothiers mysteriously murdered, and marriages made and broken. in 28 lp tracks or 21 on cd, plus a trove of promo headshots and every-hued label scans detailing all iterations of fortes logo in print, this 16th eccentric soul sojourn hands over vivid floor shakers and lost dance craze records alike—though what moves the hen required remains anyones guess.

KEB DARGE & LITTLE EDITHS LEGENDARY WILD ROCKERS (2X12)
2x12" Vinyl UK29.07.11
in keb darges own words:
i ve done many a compilation in my day, mostly based around the tunes i played at my long running deep funk nights in madame jo jos. that night is no longer on the go, possibly due to a growing lack of interest on my part, (sorry). in the last few years the lost & found nights at the club have been my real passion, and indeed little ediths and andy smiths passion too.
what a marvelous era this is for good music. we may still have pure shite like dub step pulling in large numbers of sheep, but an equal number of youngsters are being attracted to retro, or at least retro sounding music. people tell me it is because the youth are fed up with computerized music, or men with drug problems angrily shouting at them over a dull repetitive beat, but i know lots of teenagers who have bypassed this muck all together. must be the internet that is helping kill off the demand for empty music. you no longer need to go to a retro club night, or indeed search out rare records to be exposed to good music, the internet is full of the stuff. my fifteen year old daughter is a marc bolan fan who while researching the poor fellows influences discovered chuck berry, sun records, etc, etc. i dont really know or understand why so many are at last getting into the good stuff, but they are, and it is wonderful for the likes of me.

call this ep our attempt at spring cleaning. after releasing and touring with his plastic starfish project, tal m. klein is now working on new projects such as the sly players with slim from goodgroove and the disco builders with deepcuts and hilly of the hotness. but we found a bunch of unreleased remixes both by and for tal in our vaults and worked to put together an amazing package of fresh tmk beats to funk up your world.
