within lok recordings’ sixth release, we introduce lokin to you. we’re coming up with something to break boundaries and strengthen the spirit of artistic freedom. -the fall- by the belgian-born berlin-based singer, songwriter and producer cook strummer - aka maxime donnet - is an evocative ode to lost love and forgotten spirituality. channeling the post-punk synth sound of his home country’s cold wave movement of the late 70s and early 80s, donnet has absorbed the sounds of his adopted home in germany, taking that all-pervasive electronic music that is all around him and morphing it into something new. the result is -the fall-. recorded in a cell located in the basement of an old stasi prison (studio k61 in berlin), it’s an album with one eye on the dancefloor, but one that works just as well when the party is over. it’s an album that blends the organic with the synthetic, mixing guitars and synths with post-dubstep flourishes and drum machines. it’s an album about something. the name of the album has been chosen in reference to first single fallen, the idea of falling in life and waking up again. it’s also about the fact that it’s not the fall that kills you. a fall can be graceful. a fall can improve a life perspective and create new paths. it can and does make you strong. the main metaphor in there is one of reincarnation. indeed, it’s the story of a soul negotiating with god to not reincarnate on earth again, but being forced to do it anyways. experience something different!

bombay springrolls contains three tracks which all have their own strengths. the a side is a wide 45 rpm print of thee j johanzs uplifting and pretty cosmic intergalactic rabbits remix of the original still fukkin with it on side b, a catchy slomo disco track by jim lok. here you also find thee j johanzs bombay springrolls, which just happened on an afterparty in a studio in bombay (energized by the best spring rolls around). with pre-production on the spot by bombay’s underground house and techno producers abhi meer (modular synth), spacejams (tr707) and chhabb (bassmachine). a digestive and spicy disc with a variety of flavors. masala!

vor exakt 15 jahren wurde yann tiersen für seinen soundtrack zum spielfilm -die wunderbare welt der amelie- gefeiert. yann tiersen machte deutlich, wie man mit reduzierten musikalischen mitteln eine maximale emotionale wirkung entfaltet. und auch wenn die letzten drei alben -infinity- (2014), -skyline- (2011) und -dust lane- (2010) eine erweiterte musiksprache nutzen, die eine band mit einschloss, so ist yann tiersens tiefe und sein musikalischer mut auch in diesem zusammenhang zu spüren. -eusa- kehrt nun zum zeitgenössischen minimalismus zurück. ursprünglich wurde -eusa- als notenbuch für klavier veröffentlicht. als yann tiersen die stücke auf einer tournee vorstellte, bekam er lust diese für ein album aufzunehmen. neben der klavier-einspielung, die in den londoner abbey road studios entstand, unternahm tiersen auf ouessant field recordings. sie geben eindrücke von den verschiedenen plätzen auf der insel wieder, fangen das meeresrauschen, den wind, tierlaute und andere klänge ein.
