for toro y mois chaz bundick, 2011 has seen the release of his acclaimed sophomore album, underneath the pine, remix work for tyler, the creator, a split 7 inch with cloud nothings, and a steady stream of international tour dates. just over halfway through whats already been a busy year, the prolific producer has a brand new batch of lavishly funky material to offer. bundicks latest is no sloppily assembled bunch of pine session throwaways. the freaking out ep was put to tape in june during a period of touring quiescence. the release finds bundick reveling in twenty minutes of boogie, roping in the heavy sounds of groups like the gap band and mtume. while the first two tracks are modern takes on the 80s post-disco vibe, -sweet- sounds like the product of a todd edwards and teddy riley collaboration, with smooth synths weaving in and out of meticulously chopped and arranged vocal samples. the new jack influence spills over into the cover of cherrelle and alexander oneills -saturday love-, in which a swingbeat carries along fluttering piano lines steeped in delay. the eps crown jewel, -i can get love-, sees bundick assimilating styles of each of his to-date releases, with the synthesized funk of causers of this, the irresistible hooks of pine, and dance alias les sins penchant for filter effects and house beats. full of energy and crafted with a conciseness that begs repeated listens, freaking out is toro y mois most concentrated venture into pure dance floor hedonism.

2011 debut from the brooklyn-based band. rapprocher sees front person elizabeth harper pushing the songs into new directions. harper remains the force that binds the songs into a cohesive statement, her winking coo darting about in the deep drums and lofty arpeggios, and her passion backed mostly with electronics summons thoughts of yazs alison moyet. in concurrence with the title (-rapprocher- is french for -bring closer-), the candid, sincere lyrics meld with the atmosphere, enveloping the listener into class actresss world of 21st century romanticism.

in the senses is a soundtrack concept album from fernando pulichino based around the premise of music for film. melody, ambience and mood are central to these pieces influenced by the likes of angelo badalamenti, john carpenter and johnny jewel. the result is timeless electronic music infused with bittersweet synth chords & melodies, beat less atmospherics, bubbling electronics and synthesizer minimalism.

brooklyn based 369 records returns with its second release, a split 12 featuring artist co la and jeremy hyman. a side is laced with the freaky self extended edit of co la s -barricade-. this track sculpts sound into a club ready fast pace tune sure to leave people intrigued and begging for more. on the b side jeremy hyman introduces a hypnotic melody unlike many you have heard before. building on this melody it slaps you with the clap, and beats you with the bass. dance floor tested , this release is not your average twelve inch. both co la and jeremy hyman have a rich discography and sick pedigree before their solo careers. co la aka matthew papich played in ecstatic sunshine ( carpark records) before starting his solo project co la (software records, primary information) , and also a key contributor to lifted (pan records) jeremy hyman is a rare breed. a classically trained drummer who has played for more legendary bands than one can name (ponytail, dan deacon boredoms, animal collective, lifted) . he has recently started a wild independent self titled electronic solo career. he has already released tracks on future times records

kid flicks is the music project started by greek producer and songwriter nickos devisis. highly in?uenced by the bright side of contemporary athenian life, multiculturalism and the internet culture, kid flicks created a unique sound which draws from various genres and styles. from electronic to sample-based music to psych pop to world music, the album full of upbeat pop melodies, explosive percussion and greek, middle eastern and african music references. kid flicks third album kid flicks and first with an updated 3-piece line up, will be released by klik records in greece and wordandsound in the rest of europe on late june. on december 2015 they showcased at glimps festival in belgium and their creative process and involvement in the athenian music scene were one of the subjects of cbc arts documentary series interrupt this program. they currently work with brooklyn-based pr agency drunken piano (carpark, yep roc) and booker jj pallis (boogarins).

the first single from her upcoming wagon repair debut album and her first release of 2009, dinky (aka alejandra iglesias) is ably following up on the momentum gathered from her 2008 album may be later on vakant. in a decade of releases on labels from cocoon and traum to carpark and crosstown rebels, dinky continues to cement her place amongst technos most enterprising producers with four new tracks. opener wind mesmerizes with repetitive keys looped over a straight kick. chirped tones pulse curiously amidst descending melodic chimes in a steadily evolving elemental journey that equally evokes reich and contemporaries (and new label mates) cobblestone jazz. outro establishes territory with intoxicating arpeggio melodies, while wet hair plunges us into submarine depths. dripping with resonance and reverb, sporadic metallic tones color a dense mix of murky pads and sharp beats. interrupted briefly by an epic symphonic interlude, wet hair continues its descent into deep and dark territories to close. the eps closer, butterfly floats with squeaked melodic tones and breathy vocals taking lead over a busy percussive base. saturated with a variety of sounds from indigenous samples to wobbly bass and deep detuned keys, butterfly takes us on a winding scenic route, disorienting and enchanting in equal measure.
