catalogue number ten at uncanny valley and for this occasion the dresden based label returns to its roots with another various artists ep. actually, this is long overdue since there are a lot more talented producers to find in the elbe valley. on uncanny valley 010 we present four of them. sandrow m who focussed on the c-beams project recently has been part of the label right from the start. with “the three trees” he makes his solo debut for uncanny valley. the track is a summery house tune that shines with garage vocals and warm synth pads. steve kasper is slowing it down with unvexed dub which is an immersed house excursion for the morning hours. on the flipside scherbes kill bills stumbles but does not fall. instead, the track lives from tottering interaction between bright percussions and fractious drones below. finally, its jacob stoy who closes the record with s51, a dreamy deep house study including heavenly pads and subtle drum programming. for the artwork we are very glad to welcome back paul waak and his colourful figures that gave the first four compilations their unique look!

after appearing with c-beams recently,break sl strikes back with a massive track called desert flight that has already been causing a stir amongst the uncanny valley crew for quite a while.over the course of ten minutes the track unwinds as an analogue slowhouse trip that is dominated by a gritty synth figure.with typical sophisticated break sl drums,radio transmitted messages directly from the cockpit and a freaked out siren its a track that is not from this world. the flipside starts off in a more classical manner with the rumbling house of amorphed limits. the track is distinguished by rapturous synths and gets spiced up through additional drum work by break sls partner in crime manuel sander. beercase song originates from collaboration with dresdens universal genius max rademann. his quirky keys and break sls drum workshop create a dirty piece of funk which rounds up an eclectic ep by a versatile producer.the cover artwork was created by visual artist and designer julien simshäuser who illustrates the trip that is desert flight.

on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.

pikaya take to the a-side with a flourish of robes and flashing beams of light. >jedi< is not the track youre looking for… wait, no—it absolutely is the track youre looking for, all mind tricks aside. kicking off with a sparse drum pattern, it quickly shifts from a measured andante to an easy jog, as resonant synths and sweeping filters whip up desert winds and high drama. high, lonesome counterpoints and a moody chord progression carry the faintest whiff of ennio morricones outlaw music, and playful trills—you could almost swear they were birdcalls—suggest a secret oasis hidden just behind the next hill.if you find >jedi< cinematic, then >fango< will really blow your wide-screen mind. starting with a rhythmic underpinning thats everything youve come to expect from a cadenza track - tight, ultra-kinetic, just a little bit jittery - pikaya build up layer upon layer of hazy pads and cool arpeggios that shimmer like the aurora borealis. bullfrog-throated horns occasionally burst in with a fat, amicable fanfare, announcing the arrival of the peak hour. great, unison handclaps play off against heel-kicking syncopations: madness ensues. and then everything slowly, imperceptibly smears together and loses focus, and the tune fades flickeringly away. talk about a double feature! now playing on a turntable near you
