a heart from your shadow is the debut collaborative lp from michael beharie (new york) and teddy rankin-parker (chicago). since graduating together from oberlin college, beharie and rankin-parker each veered into markedly different avenues. beharie joined up with the ever-confounding new york ensemble zs (northern spy, the social registry). rankin-parker became an on-demand cellist for his prowess in the work of improvisation and avant-garde music, lending his talents to a wide array of collaborators such as primus, iron & wine, steve reich, and pauline oliveros. rather than jump into stream-of-concious improvisation, beharie and rankin-parker chose to focus the albums themes via intricately composed pieces. a heart from your shadow could be described as protest music, brimming with intense energy, harrowing anxiety, and steadfast optimism. produced by michael beharie, mixed carefully by jim o rourke, mastered by james plotkin and cut to lp at d&m berlin. black virgin vinyl housed in poly-lined inner sleeve in reverse board-printed double-width spine jacket with spot uv finishing. first pressing of 300 copies.

laura jones returns for another ep outing on her label. despite weighing in with an incendiary first release that found mandar s sam remixing infuse s karousel and a follow up from jones that included one of the sadly departed trevino s final remixes, the label took a backseat to the birth of her daugter in 2017. a year on however and the pace has picked up with an ep from renowned modular wizzard kamran sadeghi at the start of the year and this latest ep from the label boss. the two originals are a snapshot of her evolving style. pathway places skippy beats and sub heavy kicks under a soaring chord sequence, abstract vocal samples and ethereal pad riff. tough crowd takes a moodier approach with a menacing sub bass and drum arrangement, bubbling filters building to a hook that unfolds halfway through to create a moment of formidable intensity. lee renacre s recent revival of his 100 hz alias courtesy of well received outings on slow life and bosconi among others, has found the producer on career-best form and he turns in a sublime remix that makes deft use of delicate top lines and bubbling oscillators to create a powerfully heady atmosphere.

i walked by night is a new label created with the ethos that comes from the foundations of any good resident dj, that of good selection. label boss krysko, who has held residencies for over 16 years, brings his experience to his new label. the debut release comes from tristan grace, a uk based artist (aliases - oe & prime time crew). raised propping up record store counters on the south coast since his early teens, now lives pretty isolated from current club culture. nothing beats being in the storm of a dance floor, but being able to step away from the pull and draws of the scene allows him to diarise his occupational exposure through trax. inspiration from the motor city and acid sound lies at the heart of what he does. influenced by rolling green hills, and surrounded by the analog soul of his machines - he has an addiction to vintage machines of asian origin, valves, and its fair to say, he lives his life in 16 step sequence. the furse ep moves across the width of his sound, and this being his debut release on i walked by night, there will be many more to come.

following the debut ep from label owners julien sandre and konstress, blind box comes back with the second release, signed by utrecht-based hot young producer julian alexander. established member of the infamous slapfunk crew, this bad boy caught the attention of the biz with his powerful old school flavoured minimalism, by the likes of people like brawther and tristan da cunha who packed a whole ep for their dungeon meat. when julian meets blind box, his deepest side shows up. two stunning bass heavy journey and a full analogue locked groove on b3 to define the entrancing vibes you ll find out of the box. on the a2 track we got remix courtesy of one of the finest producers of the underground scene, samuel andre madsen aka s. a. m. (oscillat, delaphine, fathers & sons productions, concrete). the spiritual side of the amazing mandar project reshapes lizhi with a concentrated beam of deepness, surfing through some serious 909 beats. blind box team also got a treatment for all the way , adding to the b side the deep and groovy sound that marked them out so far. once again, a release you re definitely not gonna miss.

a remix package which well represent the multifaceted approach of midgar to techno. edit-select opens with a long and groovy rework of lost in the instability , keeps the peculiar synth & basslines of the original cut, and goes further, carrying those elements to deeper dimensions. synthek delivers a stabbing remix of nibelheim , a killer techno cut where powerful broken beats continuously crash into the heaviest sonic waves. alba was originally an interlude solely composed of ambient sounds and ephemeral voices, which evolved with luigi tozzi s interpretation into a sweet and melancholic trip. wata igarashi to close the record, re-imagines pulse width as a mind-stressing experience held in a frame of hollow drones.

originally released on richie hawtins minus label a decade ago, restore stands alone as houles very first long-player and helped to establish his penchant for the quirkier side of techno and his superlative production skills.
