maybe one of the bigger open air releases this year. slow motion minimal pop house at its best. having started to spin hip-hop records in his hometown frankfurt / main he finally ended up in berlin. his >mirrors< ep on katermukke and >akumal< on laut & luise, where released to wide acclaim and already show his versatility and finesse. his remixes and co-productions for instance with nu and acid pauli does confirm his musical pedigree and make us eagerly await all the marvelous things yet to come from this fledging artist.

das projekt wurde erstmals im februar 2016 im barbican aufgeführt und von boiler room und dem lco selbst kuratiert. die musik schafft synergien zwischen elektronischen und akustischen live-komponenten, nicht nur bei harmonien, sondern auch, wie traditionelle instrumente zu hybriden instrumenten verbunden wurden. als teil der entwicklung reicherten actress und das lco ein typisches klavier an und schufen damit sounds unter mithilfe von verschiedenen objekten, wie bspw. schüsseln oder plastiktüten. die ausverkaufte show selbst war ein großer erfolg und womöglich der startpunkt, der schlussendlich zu dieser mit spannung erwarteten veröffentlichung führte. für das album nahm das lco die einzelnen instrumentalparts im spitfire studio in l.a. auf, schickte sie dann rüber zu actress, der diese spuren nach seinen vorstellungen verfremdete, wodurch wirklich einzigartige neue stücke entstanden. außerdem haben lco, neben anderen tracks aus seinem werk, actress’ „hubble“ (aus seinem 2010er-album „splazsh“) und „n.e.w.“ (aus „r.i.p.“, 2012) neu interpretiert.die entstehung des projekts war sehr stark durch das mekka des brutalismus inspiriert, dem barbican centre in london, wo das projekt uraufgeführt wurde. iannis xenakis, ein griechischer komponist und architekt, der gebäude seinen kompositionen entsprechend schuf und vice versa, war eine starke inspirationsquelle. actress und lco haben, xenakis nicht ganz unähnlich, die grundrisse des barbican verwendet, um klänge zu produzieren, die direkt von den formen des gebäudes beeinflusst waren.

“remain calm” nennt sich die kollaboration zwischen der musikerin mica levi (micachu & the shapes/rough trade) und dem ebenfalls aus london stammenden cellisten oliver coates. an der schnittstelle zwischen klassik und elektronik erkennt man einflüsse aus grime, techno und drone und schattierungen von iannis xenakis, aphex twin, burial und scott walker-filmmusiken. das album erscheint auf dem label slip, das von london und berlin aus neue, experimentelle, elektronische musik veröffentlicht. die vinyl-lp erscheint inklusive downloadcode.

sireli is the first release of viken armans newly created record label. he will be gathering his closest friends on this project and was was joined by bedouin, mira, christopher schwarzwalder, canson and nutia for this ep. sireli is an amalgam of vikens unique folkloric and traditional crafted sounds. drop of raki is the result of an unexpected early morning collaboration with jo.ke and iannis ritter. the track goes deeper into vikens armenian roots and oriental influences.

after putting the band on the map with their first ep two years ago, the band feathered sun has grown into a life of its own. the more live sets they have played, the better they have defined their style. they are spearheading a brand of sound healing music abstractly narrative, always poetic, sometimes flirting with darkness but always perfectly produced to carry the audience into their own world. feathered sun are the collaborative experiment of nu, jo.ke, raz ohara, chris schwarzwaelder, iannis ritter and acid pauli johannes laumer. each have active and flourishing solo artist careers, albeit still have time to collaborate with one another. the six-strong collective are a close-knit troupe who are primarily based in berlin and lima, peru. live improvisation is ultimately what brought the feathered sun project to life - they are open about their laidback, impromptu approach and this is apparent throughout this ep. side a was primarily crafted in peru by chris schwarzwaelder and jo.ke with raz ohara’s mesmerising vocals. the end material was then sent to nu in berlin who crafted two tracks out of it. the ‘bulbo’ ep shows a willingness to explore different approaches within the collective and the music showcases their long-standing affiliation. it is a downtempo ep that has immaculate instrumentation, dreamy pads and brooding vocals throughout. this is intertwined with organic sounds and moody atmospheric melodies, gives the release a timeless and emotive ambience.

the most interesting, advanced electronic musicians create unique, hermetic soundworlds that seem to emanate from unknown realms. see/hear aphex twin, autechre, farmers manual, iannis xenakis, and bernard parmegiani, among a handful of others. if chloe harris isnt quite in that echelon yet, she is quickly approaching it with dose.(this album was originally issued on very ltd.-ed. cassette in 2012 and is now getting a vinyl release, mainly due to the urging of italian techno magus donato dozzy.

for amselcom, london-based jaya shakira reworked the track in her fairy-like style, adding a piano that shows off the composition talent of loversrock. for the remix of her rework decalculator brought iannis ritter s smoky voice into the project. the artists achieve a calm, but poppy convergence, which fully does justice to the original monster/by loversrock. the b-side is a trip into oldschool sample based techno funk, containing the tracks freak and shade. freak plants a funny but dangerous musical description of a techno enthusiast into your ears. the samples used in shade sound like they could ve been recorded at the zoo and present a variety of mystic sounds.

nu, j.o.k.e, raz ohara, chris schwarzwaelder, iannis ritter who, for the 1rst time, recorded as a band called feathered sun. all these artists have known each other for years and have been recording on the road or during retreats in peru. they all may sound familiar as most of them have been touring the world for the past 2 years accumulating hits, especially nu who got recognition after the who loves the sun song with j.o.k.es haunting voice.

migration cinema is a new moniker of the sonic practitioner and composer el’as merino. grisaille, his release for e/c, adopts a varied approach to the pattern of emergence within merinoÕs work. these seven recordings present not only electronic, but mostly instrumental trajectories, whose densities are unfolded through a huge collection of music performers. migration cinema creates a situation for the musicians in which they navigate a resonant and responsive compositional space, while the space itself is treated as a plastic medium. * grisaille suggests an unconventional view of chamber and instrumental contemporary music from a culture alien in both space and time, heard through the filter or sieve of iannis xenakisÕ architectural and physical approach to sound. alternating between opacity and translucency, monochrome and colour, grisaille conjures a spectral palette reminiscent of fredrich cerha, but with an approach to instrumental hybridisation more reminiscent of the electroacoustic worlds of ana maria avram and iancu dumitrescu. * grisaille was written, recorded, and produced by el’as merino between 2013 and 2016 in spain and england, and includes across its seven tracks more than 24 performers and a student choir. all the instrumentation has been written, scored and orchestrated through computer music methodologies such as algorithmic and generative systems. grisaille swims into hybrid spaces from acoustic reverberations captured by the artist itself at notre dame (paris, france), basilica di sant eustachio, (rome, italy), and eglise st. laurent, (marseilles, france).
