london modular alliance is the raw and unpredictable music project from the uk’s best known, dedicated modular synth shop london modular. its members simon lynch, phil ventre and gavin pykerman met through a shared passion in modular synthesisers. impromptu gatherings and jams soon turned into live performances at clubs, festivals and museums. from the hushed environs of the tate modern and v&a to vast sweatboxs such as fabric, bloc, freerotation, weather and berghain, london modular clearly have a flair for all things modular. this year sees a return to bloc weekender as well as new adventures at festivals such as dekmantel. they create an intense live show with a huge setup of self-assembled modular gear. every set starts with one small looping beginning – a patch – and is expanded into a deep sonic landscape. with the use of cables they build unexpected circuits and explore the power of pure electronic sounds without the use of a digital software infrastructure. no laptops, no button pushing, everything is created on the spot using modular synthesizers and is based on live improvisations. overall lma tries to keep its live sets in the dark: unrecorded, off the internet and only for those who are present in the moment. a clear break with the capture-all mentality of the internet age.

animals on psychedelics is a new label out of cleethorpes, run by dj/promoter carl_h. through a combination of name, artwork and musical output, animals on psychedelics focuses on the more tripped out, spacey side of electronic music. the labels debut release is a three-track ep from london duo invisible menders, otherwise known as dom ahtuam & jane fitz, who have also released on porn wax and boe recordings.

italian native, christian lisco is well known for having an extremely envious collection of vintage synthesisers and drum machines housed in his basement. it was there that four ridiculously special acid cuts that we are prone to immediately fall in love with on first reception. -your joy” which sees the collaborative efforts of singer, michael clifford, evokes the feeling of the early age of american house music. the next set of tracks were treated with a surrounding of acid basslines and heavy drums. mixed live and directly recorded to tape.

composer kate simko, along with her all-female london-based string ensemble london electronic orchestra, release their highly anticipated album. kate simko has composed tracks that subtly blend her training as a classical pianist with her passion for electronic music. the result is an inimitable mix of sonorous strings and instruments melting with synthesizers and loose grooved beats, taking classical music to an innovative level. musical worlds collide, with a rework of schubert, egyptian and eastern melodies, rainforest samples, philip glass-inspired minimalism and classic 808 electronic drums. the album includes reworks of the xx and parra for cuva, as well as collaborations with prominent uk house dj jamie jones and pop singer katy b.

tuppence is a new seven inch single label, the latest venture from esteemed disc jockey and epicurean craig richards (fabric / the nothing special). the debut release is courtesy of electro techno genius radioactive man (keith tenniswood). please note these are limited 7inch only releases. watch out for other forthcoming releases on tuppence from convextion and deadbeat.

project london’s raw series returns with talented newcomers pandilla ltd. this time we also invited well known fellow londoner henry hyde (undersound) & patrick klein from frankfurt based traffic collective to give us their take on street manifest.

south london analogue material is back with the long awaited release from keepsakes. whadyyatalkinbout is a ruthless opener, its aggressive, distorted techno with all the keepsakes trademarks. the remix by bas mooy is a dance floor tool and has been doing the damage over the last few months. on the flip gorbs house is rough down tempo stomper with a naughty acid section and forward strategy group finish off with the b side remix giving the ep nice balance.

brotherhood sagats and ludovic, together with steve murphy & dj octopus, are another duo coming from the venetian school of the now berlin based analogue cops. their sound reflects the typical approach where drum machines, synthesizers and samplers are recorded directly on tape without being digitalised. handmoon ep encloses five fine raw cuts, four pressed onto vinyl and a bonus track which is available though hardmoon london bandcamp only.

next up from fuse london is the latest ep from resident rich nxt. hot on the heels of launching his own nxt records, this scorching four track platter represents his strongest and most dancefloor friendly ep to date. donkey, quixotic and longtime showcase an intricate yet effective sound, laced with powerful bass, sharp percussion, subtle synths, analogue dirt and bags of groove. all of the tracks have gained widespread support and captured ears around the globe whilst the dark, lurching flux one provides something a bit different.

tilted marks the debut material to drop from kate simko & london electronic orchestras eponymous studio album, due for release on the vinyl factory this may. featuring two original compositions and an epic remix from seth troxler, the tilted ep provides an exciting preview of simkos innovative project which showcases a symbiotic blend of orchestral soundscapes and electronic music.

soooo here we are with the tenth and final release, thought it would be nice to finish on a nice zen like number, so this is a extra special release kind of a mini lp almost -opened up by fx mchn flush the trush is an intro to the comp and a reverse funk skittish affair next up is new man on the block for us here we been sitting on a collection of his tracks but felt this one complemented this ep the most, ecco foul, gloss is a sleazy machine groove that does t do much but thats just the way we like it .then comes mr facade with his jerky funk sweet surprises and warm melodies. the b side is opened by another newcomer from running back record hugh mane new age dawns whose track come s deep and wide open has to be heard on the headphones as well as the club jamie blanco s chord arrangments get opened up and spaced out by lht office boy toby tobias in a detroitesque ditty thats been used to open a few sets in 2015 already and finally alphonse delivers an out and out machine jam with the usual dub influence brought in vocal fashion.

the home taping label return with a highly accomplished release by london based producer duff disco. already known for the eclectic nature of his work, duff disco moves it around effortlessly on this ep from the raw and underground sounds of feed the horse to the more classic motor city influenced vibes of the heat and finishes it off in some style with the chunky beatdown beats of you and nothing else .

rushmore is a 1998 soundtrack to the wes anderson film of the same name. the songs mostly blend raw, adolescent urges and insecurity with an awkward grace, composed primarily of popular music from the 1960s. continuing with its soundtrack initiative, ume will be reissuing this classic soundtrack back on vinyl for the first time in years.

label head enzo siragusa returns to fuse for his first full ep since 2012 with the sanctuary ep kicking off with double dove, a hyper-kinetic slab of phunked up tech weaponry. the cavernous bass makes for a real warehouse vibe whilst silken pads lap upon the senses for an audio overload. the flipside s solo takes things into deeper realms, a tripped out vocal effect being the track focal point, custom made for early hours sessions whilst the eps vinyl only track gemini does away with any headier pretences and delves straight into the heart of things with a thumping kick and sense of purpose.

jay lumen, one of the most quickly developing producers and known for his dynamic, pulsating grooves and pleasant vocalic tunes is back again on 100% pure. after having caused mayhem with his eleven earlier releases, he has proven to be labelled as one of the most famous and internationally appreciated artists of the electronic dance scene.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

the two track evolutions ep sees enzo siragusa and alexkid each give us their own personal take on the infamous kilimanjaro sound. label head enzo once again fuses his junglist past with sleek tech beats on the a side in the form of desire skippy percussion imbuing the track with a real sense of funk before a monster 90s style b-line cuts through the mix to really nail the floor.

last year s disco (a fine selection of independent disco, modern soul & boogie 1978-82) compilation from soul jazz offered undeniable proof that few diggers deserve their reputation as much as dutch discotheque scholar disco patrick. given the reception, it s no surprise to see that the london label have commissioned patrick to undertake a second assessment of the genre s lesser known gems with the focus here on the years 1976-80. the first of two double lp vinyl samplers to accompany the full cd release finds pat pulling out gems like the extremely pricey skip jackson curio micro wave boogie and t.k. disco treat cosmic funk by mad dog fire department.
