we present the first in a series of re-issues with >a deeper ground ep< by repeat orchestra, originally released in 2000. needless to say, it sounds no less fresh ten years later. the four-track ep is the work of stefan schwander under the repeat orchestra name. in his repeat orchestra work, schwander distills the finest elements of detroit techno and chicago house into a sleek hybrid that honours its roots while casting its gaze upon the future.

boy we couldnt resist hooking up with one of the youngest and brightest proteges in the west-coast undergound to slap out some crazy remixes of the bsu ep for yall. who is he? why, a made up sound ofcourse, or 2562 for short. steamrolling his way onto the scene in 2007, 2562 has been a mainstay from the get go, with amazing production skills and a keen ear for what rocks the house. in a very short time the 2562 name became almost synonimous for dubstep. but luckily for us theres the made up sound guise to provide us with a more mutant hybrid of slamming jak-step (and remember where you read that first). so take your pick, heres one for the heads and one for the bodies.

producer toby leeming is making quite a name for himself. after a year of sowing the seeds on the underground, this london-based artist makes his first high profile release on arts newly formed dance division series. >messier 66< contains all the classic elements of pure dancefloor techno. driving ur style beats merge with basic channel chord delays - all underpinned by a menacing acid line. techno doesnt get any more sci-fi than the alien soundscapes of >anadine< - its classic detroit-inspired string stabs and abstract vocal washes are highlights of a frantic, scattering track that will keep the feet busy on the dancefloor. >paucity< ends this no-filler ep with its majestic, sweeping pads and uplifting melodies. the beats are still tough and relentless - making a perfect finale to the second release on arts dance division series.

still only 20, leeds-based youandewan has emerged as one of the stand-out raw talents of 2009. he has been featured in future music magazine. and he is already receiving support from steve bug, slam, nick warren, technasia, gavin herlihy, silicone soul, brothers vibe, arnaud le texier to name a few

the name says it all. dettmann is the debut long player of berghains resident dj, producer and remixer marcel dettmann - and what an album it is. intrinsically tied to the myth that is berghain by now, the attached label ostgut ton and at the same time with the regeneration of no-frill, cleansed and powerful electronic music, marcel dettmann managed a daring feat: the production of a truly absorbing and veritable techno album. framed by >quasi< and >taris< as intro respectively outro, spread out over ten tracks, dettmann transports the raw energy, the rough aesthetics and the simple grace of techno.

truly beautiful deep house records are things to be treasured, akin to proper songs that will last the test of time, not made to meet a fleeting fad. this is one of those records and a real pinnacle & departure for blm & pawas. although the term deep is an oft overused one, >waiting game< personifies the genres true key traits with a subtly moving groove that gradually builds, using layers of subtle percussion and a rich, warm synth motif to make a rich tapestry of sounds before finally introducing the beautiful female vocal that gives the track its name. patrice scott liked the track so much that he agreed to remix it - his first ever outside of his own, excellent, sistrum label. using plenty of the original track parts but taking it a different direction, patrice really has come up with something special. the track moves along with snippets of the main vocal and clever use of the main synth, the groove being underpinned by patrice s classic sense of production before moving into a more classic >detroit< ending - a mindset with a bigger, more dramatic sensibility

a welcome return for jaime read who has been releasing quality deep house and techno since the mid 90s via his own push ii shove label, tenth planet, fragmented and ugly music. here he drops a timeless ep of house and techno rythims to great effect. messages from outer space is a deep slice of timeless 808 driven electro soul. name no names moves along with spaced out keys and a sax line reverbed to great effect. no relief has that old school chicago house sound with piano stabs and a lush string breakdown. digital acid wraps it up sounding much like the title suggests with deep 808 bass and floor smashing snares

andromeda – just like the galaxy with the same name - is brilliant! expansive and excursive, the suspenseful groove on its own is >big room< worthy, but its the sci-fi tune that haunts across the synths that takes this tune from x files to x factor. while on the flip you will discover the #1 remix duo - 2000 and one and dj madskillz - with a punchy, in-your-face stellar remix.

luca and kai met for the first time in berlin winter 2002, playing long deep sets at some of the shadiest after hours in berlins underground. for this debut ep under the name luca ortega & kai maan, they deliver two deep techno cuts: >kompiuta< and >i thou< using the advantages of both analogue and digital gear to create a warm, deep and driving sound, perfectly suited for the types of places these friendships are forged.

played by luciano, tiefschwarz, brothers vibe, anthony collins, livio & roby, giusseppe cennamo and more...!! pachamama in english is the andean peoples word for mother nature. so its no wonder that the chilean native multi talented musician, alejandro vivanco, remixed a track by the same name as it carries with it the message of our earths mother through its energy, positivity and promises of eternal sunshine. both the original and the 2 vivanco mixes are topped off with a funky easy riding 70s horn section and the dub mix is an altogether more housey fuelled track with more hi hats to make you shake off the winter blues. one by one the musical portrait of pachamama unfolds itself in a dreamy soundscape of warm summery beats that coax you to the poolside and dance with you from sunrise to sunset!

encer kincy was giant in chicagos house music revival - part of the second wave of younger djs and producers that took the music of the early 1980s, rubbed it up and dropped it in places like 500 west cermak, medusa’s and the vault. a lot of people who are now superstars of the scene - mark farina, sneak, derrick carter, and dozens of others - were a part of that movement, too. spencer released a number of tracks on relief, planet e, cajual, peace frog - labels representing the classics of that era - and he usually recorded under the name gemini. as a dj, he operated in his own space - i’m sure he could play for a room, and sometimes did, but the unrestrained madness of a spencer kincy dj set had to be heard over several hours to appreciate. he could blend a sleazy disco track into hard acid, downtempo into a punishing armani track, jazz into detroit techno and so on. it wasn’t technically brilliant or tricky, but the selection was exquisite. a number of figures from his era still list him as an influence. his productions, viewed as a whole, are so much like his sets: going softer than many dared to go, and going much harder than just about any dared to go. simple jack tracks! respected by the standards of the industry of the time, and you certainly couldn’t go anywhere in chicago without hearing derrick, sneak, mark, lego, gene, jevon, diz, johnny or the other djs beating them. and so many of them have a timelessness - a little piece of eternity stuck like some bit of wax between the grooves

the latest ep to come from the detroit grand pubahs label detelefunk is dj and producer k alexi shelby with >i can go<. kaay is one of chicagos true heroes and cited by many as a pioneer of the citys sound. this is his unique smooth blend of techno and house, as kaay calls >tecsoul< (which is also the the name of his own label) that attracted the eye of the pubahs with a track titled >i can go< featuring kaays own vocals, and the heavy female breathing.

vizual - the brain and soul child of joshua iz - its even part of the name. after working with many of the most respected labels in underground dance music, including prescription, classic, om, guidance, diy, joshua &#64257,,nally felt it time to create his own imprint, hence vizual. drawing from a myriad of in&#64258,,uences, from heavy jamaican dub to bleepy detroit techno, vizual seeks to develop new musical forms that bridge the gap between pure organic music and abstract electronic sound paintings, yet creating something danceable in the process.

immediately adopted by a huge list of djs like fedde le grand, axwell, laidback luke, sander van doorn, dirty south and funkagenda to name a few!! nick romero drops his interpretation of the well known classic by groove armada - and it rocks!!!

scott monteith aka deadbeat is back on echocord with an absolutely killer ep. after his split ep with fenin on echocord colour this year, and his earlier ep with pole (d.p.) he is now back on echocord with his vampire ep. deadbeat is one scott monteith, a long time montrealer and recent berlin ex pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as cynosure, musique risquée, scape and spectral to name but a few. this continues in the same vain. dub is the key here and it is used with such class and insight. the flip sees a more twisted track that shows a slightly more edgy side.

salvatore freda makes a welcome return to freerange, turning in two rock solid club tracks that straddle house and techno, with his own individual approach stamped all over them. a long running resident at d club, one of switzerlands finest clubs, salvatore freda is an experienced dj as well as accomplished producer whose previous track on freerange, >western spaghetti<, caught the ears of many a big name dj.

alex o. smith aka omar-s does it again, mixing up the rough with the smooth in his wonderfully titled >plesetsk cosmodrome ep< (named after the russian space port of the same name). the first two tracks >kosmos 1402< and >plesetsk cosmodrome< have a old larry heard kind of feel to them, you should check the title track which has one of the most infectious basslines i have heard in a while. the drum machine lead closing track >skynet 2b< is omar s at his rawest. classic fxhe vibes, miss this one at your peril.

mind-blowing singles, eps, remixes (for the likes of simian mobile disco, little boots, royksopp, lykke li, au revoir simone…), a quickly-growing label (fondation records), and the night is his in most of the worlds major cities: danton eeprom had it all, to the exception of a long-playing record. after making a name for himself with hits like confessions of an english opium-eater, grindhouse or face control, it was time to go off the beaten path and show the way once again. would he go for a fairly logical sweat-ridden dancefloor riot? not precisely. not only. danton would make a revolution of his own, in dandy mode.
three words that will soon be on everyones lips: yes is more. in a cloud of smoke, over a tight booty beat and keys delving deep into thirty years of electronic music, the french londoner sings for good and is all axes out on >thanks for nothing<, making things clear from the very start.

oh my god! this is another impressive release on the fast growing analogmode label. a.paul is on a roll with his string of releases in 2009 on labels like planet rhythm, kombination research and naked lunch to name only a few. this time he collaberates with one of the biggest in the industry: the advent! this tune is just what to except from these guys. straight froward pumping techno! the second track is by japanese techno warrior riuji takeuchi followed up on the flip by sinisa tamamovic taking it deep. last but not least a switch in styles to the dancefloor magnet tadox. all in all a great diverse techno ep which you just cant afford to miss!
