and now here they are together ... it all started in 2006 when hell dropped in to meet ferry at his west london studio. at first they discussed hell remixing an old roxy music track, and then it turned into something else - something new (u can dance).

strut present the story of one of the most influential and revered labels emerging from new york in the late >70s and 80s<, ze records. after the late 70s punk and new wave explosion in new york, ze became a by-word for the anything-goes culture clashes that typified the big apple during the early 80s. formed by french art student michel esteban and british journalist michael zilkha, ze quickly created its own unique independent universe, signing artists as varied as alan vegas electronic postpunk pioneers suicide, trash disco queen cristina and maverick producer august darnell a.k.a. kid creole. with estebans sharp graphic eye leading the labels visual identity, ze hit the new york zeitgeist head on and became supremely hip û in 1982, the face magazine nominated it ôthe most fashionable label in the world.the labels early success led to a deal with chris blackwells island records, which gave zes releases worldwide exposure and brought worldwide fame to kid creole, was (not was) and more. over thirty years on and ze remains one of the great cult labels of its time. with this new compilation, strut takes a snapshot of the many weird and wonderful fusions that surfaced on its famous nyc cab-influenced yellow and black label. highlights include one of the earliest outings by was (not was), tell me that im dreaming, a disbelieving commentary on reagan-omics, bob blankÆs short-lived disco supergroup aural exciters and a larry levan mix of kid creoles biting parable about corruption in the caribbean, theres something wrong in paradise. other featured artists include ze label regulars cristina, bill laswells material, kookie french experimentalist lizzy mercier descloux, and camp disco-electro icons, les garcons.

computor rockers return after the worldwide hit that was computor interface (brk49) with another showcase of exactly how electro should be put together. all too often retro can mean dull and uninspired (or just lame plagiarism), but anyone who has been following ed dmxs career over the last several years will know that really isnt the way he plays the game. instead he understands the value of songs and melody... the beats are fresh, without a doubt, but it will usually be the tune or the lyrics that will hook you into a dmx production, the elements that turn just another electro track into something unique and valuable. and so it proves here, from the classic computor shock (which helpfully comes in vocal and instrumental versions for those who just cant do the voice thing) to the melodic and hooky electro-funk of how we used to rock and distributed processing. stunning as always!

finally its ready. a brilliant 12inch from one of detroits most respected producers, anthony shake shakir. this is the full release of a super limited white label that dropped earlier this year. a tough and ballsy 12inch - going everywhere from off key house and electro bullets to steppers/near photekish-dubstep. ridiculous. this will appeal to fans of his output on his own frictional label and open eared people with a love for solid electronic music! morphine continue to kill it.

mobach makes a deep, soulful, warm and groovy hybrid between house, electro, dub and jazzy electronics. one of the deepest pieces of vinyl you ll hear this year. mobach already featured on the electronic generation album on sd and with this debut 12 he drops a future classic. title-track metrobots is as funky as it is soulful and warm. the beautiful sounds and voices keep building to an emotional climax on top of a deephouse groove with a slight jackin twist to it, which simply keeps you going. submersion dub is a funky combination of house, electro and breaks: deep and dubby. alternate moods is the most jazzy track that featured until now on the ever forward thriving sd records. it s loose and lovely. excellent!
