chicano soul floaters have to be one of the smaller sub genres of my disco collecting but nubia is probably the best example out there. we managed to get the master tapes from writer george rivera so it sounds as good as the day it was recording, bring some floaty sunny soul to your dancefloors â&#128,&#147, 500 only.

for their first release of 2017, phuture shock excursions venture further afield with an accomplished remix package featuring two reworks of nubian mindz(colin lindo) soulful house gem somebody else – which appeared in its original form on last years excursions 3 split ep.

a1 --aqua lifeforms- is perhaps the least intense cut on the record, a sort of a slow grower which builds up momentum by layering sounds and pads. a2 -body mover- is exactly what the title tells you. crunchy peak time tune for the dance floor, with shuffling broken beats wrapping around deep chords that hint what s happening on the flip side. b1 -doorway to her- is a nod to the classic deep techno chord-ish approach. well, sort of. the song lets you think that until the first curveball just before the half of the track. after that, it s just deeper than deep. b2 -pulsing hearts- is another well-crafted dance floor cut. the track moves from deep meditative vibe to subtle acid tripping, just to be finished with a proper bass workout. overall, we couldn t think of a better way to mark the 10th barba release.

vinyl only release , phuture shock excursions round up four artists for the next ‘excursions’ release, which like the maiden 12” is another four-track compilation of genre-bending sounds. representing this instalment is the ever-prolific bass music trailblazer colin lindo, better known as nubian mindz, phuture shock musik mainstay roof light - who returns following his initial contribution to psmex001 two years ago, graz’s simon/off aka sun people under his latest alias mighty buha, and emergent nottingham- based producer cyclonix - who in the last few years has amassed releases on various labels including his co-owned end of level boss, horn wax, and red rack’ems smugglers inn.
