wir bei seayou records freuen uns über das signing der kanadischen soulsängerin erin costelo. die erste single “fighter” ist der vorbote zu ihrem neuen album “down below, the status quo”, das seayou in europa im april veröffentlichen wird. während klassischer soul und pop am vorgänger “we can get over” die verzückung des aufkeimens einer liebesbeziehung untermalten, dominiert am neuen album ein ungeschönter, ein unerschrockener blick auf costelos (und unser aller) leben, besonders gut zu hören in songs wie “fighter”, “low” und “titanic”. auf der anderen seite, und um die balance zu halten, stehen lieder wie “move” und “turn it on”, die hoffnung und kraft geben sollen. mit der inhaltlichen geht auch eine musikalische evolution einher, eine weiterentwicklung costelos als produzentin, songwriterin und arrangeurin. dazu eine eindringliche soul-stimme, die weder in nordamerika noch in europa vergleiche scheuen muss.

system status (david rendal) caught our attention in 2012 with his self released pistachio ep. his production stood out to us instantly and his musicality shows through in his compositions. tusk wax, giles peterson & ashley beadle have all been paying attention to his work over the last few year and this ep was an opportunity for us to introduce another one of his tracks to the dance floor.

the first release of the new dutch label pinkman contains four great tracks from drvg cvltvre, formerly known as ra-x. his music is slow, doomy, with broken disco and house elements, focussing on on hypnotic repetition and percussion. most of the music is made with electronic means, but is rooted in an organic, percussive approach.

status quo are set to release their new studio album at the end of may, which will also featuring an exclusive official bootleg life albuum recording in amsterdam & melbourne in 2010.

erste offizielle neuauflage der überaus erhabenen und sehr seltenen -butterfly- lp, das 1979 in tokio von der japanischen sängerin kimiko kasai und der jazzlegende herbie hancock aufgenommen wurde. aufgrund seines extrem seltenen status als reine japan-veröffentlichung erhielt diese exquisite sammlung von covers trotz ihrer unglaublich inspirierten darbietungen von kimiko, herbie und den äußerst talentierten musikern, die für das projekt zusammengestellt wurden, nie die anerkennung, die sie verdient hatte. vom himmlischen schlagzeuger alphonse mouzon und dem renommierten organisten webster lewis bis zum bassisten paul jackson, dem reedman bennie maupin und dem master-perkussionisten bill summers haben die legendären performer erstaunlich gute vocal-versionen von herbie / headhunters jazz-funk komponiert. es überrascht nicht, dass es seit vielen jahren stark nachgefragt ist.
