reduced and methodical housey techno from this new anonymous project out of portugal. in the same lineage as early cabinet records or tobias freund under his tobias. moniker, the duo apply the detail-oriented approach of a sound designer to classic dancefloor forms, each cut matching techno sensibilities with a levity that can only come from a love for the giants of 90s us house. flat, impassive kicks get lifted by skippy hats and claps, dubby synth backdrops are punctured by dramatic stabs (note the chez n trent flashes on the b-side), and under it all roams an ever-restless (sub-)bass that reaches right into your guts. the name may be routine, the effect is anything but.

mkfn return to touchin bass after last years *substrate ep* with their latest offering, *this divide ep*. through a sustained and methodical exploration of studio techniques, the trio of babar raza (us), ovais hassan (uk) and fahad ahmad (canada) continue to refine and evolve their signature sound. manipulated sounds accent the meticulous rhythms to form the foundation upon which this release is defined. over the course of these four tracks, mkfn create a sense of place inviting listeners to traverse landscapes that exist independent of any singular perception or experience.

longtime raíz collaborator subversive makes his debut on droid sister label vrv with chainbreaker. subversive has appeared previously on historia y violencia and contruct re-form (under the name deception plan with voiski). this release for vrv is a collection of 3 tracks that reflect his focused, methodical programming. the title track stretches a deep, driving narrative over the course of 7 minutes, perfect for adding hypnotic breathing room to any set. the other side contains intergalactic, a subtle and harmonic passage that sets the stage for a2, telemore. telomere begins with intense, brooding synth design that inevitably builds into heavy rhythm structures, providing the sets most driving dance sounds.
