tarawangsawelas are a musical duo from bandung, mainly performing a contemporary version of tarawangsa, the sacred music from sundanese west java. here they are joined by their teacher and maestro, pak pupung supena, together with, pak jaja, on sekalipon. wanci is a minimalist, cosmic album composed with a careful modern interpretation of one of the most mystical and spiritual genres in indonesia. a gorgeous and infectious six track album. tip!

auf -ennanga vision- begleiten wir den londoner produzenten jesse hacke (owiny sigoma band, elmore judd, gorillaz) auf einer klangreise, die uns von der englischen kapitale nach uganda führt, und damit von der hauptstadt des pop mitten ins herz von afrika. co-steuermann und erster kollaborateur von hacke ist der ugandische sänger und multiinstrumentalist albert ssempeke. bei ihrer eigenwilligen, um nicht zu sagen abenteuerlichen unternehmung erhalten die beiden beistand durch eine reihe von gastsängern aus dem norden ugandas, die unter der dortigen bevölkerung einen legendären ruf genießen. damit setzt sich die formation aus einer runde von experten zusammen, welche die dj-ikone gilles -acid jazz- peterson zu den worten -one of the finest musicians, thinkers and world selectors in the uk- hinriss. sie sorgen für einen hypnotischen sound, der traditionelle ugandische folk-musik mit aktuellem pop der westlichen hemisphäre zu einem organischen ganzen verschmilzt. dabei findet die einsaitige, für afrika so typische geige genauso ihren platz wie eine 200 jahre alte mundharmonika. für das infektiöse klangbild bestimmend sind jedoch in erster linie elektronische instrumente aller art sowie parallel gespielte xylophone.

saine & smith consists of jaja saine and leo smith. two talented djs/producers from stockholm. both are diaspora kids - jaja saine s background is in west africa and leo s in barbados. so their debut release is a kind of heritage reflection, with twisted elements of decadent scandinavian dance music, which echoes generally in their sound. a. lord vanlig - inspired from afro-caribbean traditional folk music from the 60s. a melodramatic blend of cheer and sorrow. with capturing and repetitive drums combined with a compact kick and sweet overlay of melodious keys and child laughter. b. sir viktig – a deep house banger with haunting ghost like pads, catchy afrobeat samples and vocal snippets.
