new york’s sheik n beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated techno following up releases from xamiga, keita sano and hermans with a va from family members ivvy, mr dello, og ag and ray rose. first up is mr dello with ‘pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue fx. intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before og ag aka andrew grant follows up with ‘410 prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. one half of dirk largo, ray rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before ivvy - a fresh alias from madison levine. originating from seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘shape speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.

new york collective sheik ’n’ beik follow up a slew of lauded 12 inchs from japans keita sano, legowelt & xosar and their previous effort from hermans with the richly emotive return of voiski. with a back catalogue of considerable depth - one that’s touched the likes of l.i.e.s and delsin, dekmantel’s ‘ufo’ series - voiski’s latest offering carries with it a trademark degree of bite whilst remaining balanced with the sort of moody melodicism that fans both old and new will relish. ‘5th dolphin transmission’ kicks things off with a tense sequence tumbling through granular drums and a staggered, luminescent synth line. ‘let down disco’ then dims the lights slightly with soft, buoyant melodies and flickering high frequencies that round off a nicely varied release and another solid addition to the sheik n beik catalogue.

de:tuned was founded in 2009 by ruben boons and bert hermans. the pair first organised a series of old school techno parties in antwerp (belgium) before launching the record label in 2012. to celebrate 5 years de:tuned they now turn out a very special 5lp album featuring 21 tracks from some of the most respected names in the game. the album has its roots firmly in early/mid 90s techno and electronica, a style which de:tuned has always presented, and spans some 20 years of electronic music.

lab.our 04 sees the return of torontos own maxwell church with 3 raw techno cuts. doldruk, faxnews, and geosynchronus orb. when not busy as one of the founders of torontos techno night the deep north, max releases music as a solo artist and as one half of the hermans. doldruks driving rhythm is anchored by percolating synths and ever changing, melodic patterns. faxnews is a dubby stomper with synth stabs and vocal snippets. geosynchronus orb shows us what acid sounds like on saturn

lab.our musics second release showcases more home-grown talent with 2 tracks by up and comer maxwell church. as a founding member of toronto techno night the deep north, max already has releases under his own name and as one half of the hermans, but this marks his first release on vinyl. lab.our 02 offers 2 raw techno tracks in one day and twizzled. one day is a late-night stomper, moving in and out of changing synth patterns while twizzled is an acid workout that changes up when synth stabs come in the middle of the track.
