eine immense zahl des größten volksstamms kambodschas, der khmer, fiel in den siebzigerjahren der schreckensherrschaft der roten khmer zum opfer – und mit ihm auch die musik dieses rough guide. einige wenige, die dem mörderischen system entkommen konnten, versteckten die musikaufnahmen oder nahmen sie mit ins exil und hüteten sie wie den schatz einer verloren gegangenen zeit. als sich das land 20 jahre später wieder zu öffnen begann, fanden die schallplatten, auch über kassettenaufnahmen, ihren weg zurück auf den lokalen markt und in die exilgemeinden und wurden so auch einer breiteren weltöffentlichkeit bekannt. künstler aus den sechziger- und siebzigerjahren wie sin sisamouth, ros sereysothea oder pan ron wurden vor dem vergessen bewahrt. revival bands wie dengue fever und the cambodian space project retten den »psychedelic sound of cambodia« in die heutige zeit. die limitierte vinyl-lp erscheint inklusive downloadcode.
