following previous appearances on station shiva and discos pandemicos, estrato aurora makes his first appearance on bliq with some advanced deep techno immersions that match the profile of the label perfectly. ursus dolinensis takes a slow ride into submission, placing all the emphasis on the low end and using subtle background frequencies to shape out the atmosphere. lunanosorex takes a particularly tripped out approach to electro, while glyphodon adds a little industrial bite into the machine funk framework without losing that steely atmosphere that makes the whole ep so appealing. leonids remix of ursus dolnensis is the perfect complementary addition to the ep the dolly and sistrum artist adds his own rugged deep techno machinations to the track to deadly, understated effect.

bliq continues its quest to mine the deepest shades of techno with this release from iakovos, who had previously appeared on the label as lowjac and in the formidable duo deemonlover. this is sharply focused mind music layered with subtle detail and rich textures perfectly honed for hazy hours at the far reaches of the party. -singers- melds hypnotic pads with gossamer-light threads of breakbeat and warm synth pulses, while -evil flower- pushes a tougher rhythmic agenda without losing the ethereal atmosphere. -adidas people- rides on a surging kick drum pattern, but leaves ample room for a distant drone, and then -hackney tower- heads into edgier territory with all manner of obtuse angles and unnerving sound effects pivoting around the insistent drum core of the track.

having emerged from the murky waters of the tape scene on always human and summer isle, strahinja arbutina follows up on a first 12- for bank records nyc with this sterling sure shot for the excellent bliq label. there s a range of styles displayed across fox venom, but the tracks are held together by the immersive, droning atmospheres that linger in the background of the productions. -fox venom- lurches under a heavy cloud like the best subterranean techno should, while -teabagging mystery- gets locked into a deathly minimal groove. this is music for the graveyard shift, although deemonlover s -so solid mix- of -fox venom- does inject some wild breakbeat action into the gothic surroundings

nick lapien is back on bliq under his metropolis incarnation, with “solitude” is the latest effort by the berlin based producer. the title track yields a spiralling locked groove that’s complemented with moist vocoder lines in tandem with dreamy synth riffs, its refined remix version delivered by delsin’s d5 (formerly known as dimension 5).
the b side kicks in with the proto-kraut and catchy number that’s meant to heat up dancefloors “identify” while b2’s “the other life” delves into similar territory with a warm electro touch.

ben cohens *voyage to rahoz* is dappled with esoteric references invoking the hazy contours of the ever mystical inner zones. it delves gracefully into these realms with the opener *momentum*, which gives way to the mind-expanding workout that is *acid dreams*, a proper luscious piece. on the b-side, *play with humanity* is built around elastic percussive elements and an enigmatic looped-voice. the final cut is an adroit, if not buoyant, rework by the moscow’s top producer anton zap.

on a debut release for bliq, seixlack unleashes his unique fusion of intoxicating gear-crunched cuts. vasumitra is built around static drum-kicks and a pulsating bassline countered by atmospheric and murky synth progressions its repetitive and body-thumping structure rolls deep. nublando o ar rips it from the get-go, with a hyper-funked groove that manages to sustain its rugged pace and entrancing impact all the way. in the title track feitico, seixlack succeeds in artfully juxtaposing banging riddims with jazzed-out, infectious chords leading nicely to the fourth cut, re-crafted by the mighty miltiades, with a deep-rooted and slow-burner of a meditation.

drawing from an acute sense of what could perhaps be described as deep minimalism-turned-into-a-quasi-equatorial-feast, full of holes gradually unfolds and weaves its fabrics in ways that are evocative of the disparate sensations and heady feelings one might run into in a proto-ritualistic setting, whilst xdbs recontextualisation routes a more linear but no less absorbing excursion.

manticore by deemonlover is yet another piece of enigmatic and deviant techno-constructs, a debut release from the unhallowed incognito duo. manticore bubbles with an array of contrasting moods, ranging from the buoyancy and melodic traits of the opener velcro, the stained oomph of ghetto-esque j.a.a.p., to the chromatic shades and warmth of violet kink and the menacing tone of the cruncher till primalis.

bliq are proud to present bliq05:nicuris paradigms fresh out of union city, ny. the paradigms of which nicuri speaks are darkness, deliverance and determination, modal expressions delivered on three cuts of resonant electronic music. on doldrums nicuri plays with paradox,combining staggered, dreamy synths with unnerving bass rumbles. to reinvigorate the doldrums, or as he puts it replenish the earth, the producer implements a menacing analog rumble in the style of new york greats dj qu and joey anderson. but to ensure that the ground is re-imbued with rational vitality, nicuri adds a layer of baroscopic viscosity: smog surrounds and engulfs, a suppressed vocal intermittently choking. on the flip, parrish adams – aka intrinsic of emphasis records in chicago – gives the earth an even harder, more insistent techno edge. he introduces melodic light flashes at the edges of urban darkness, and rumbles it like a train escaping grand central station. bliq05 is on the run.

from the start of this debut release from amsterdam-based lapien, one conceives that the young producer is conscientious. >anvers<, the french name for belgian port antwerp, starts in unassuming manner, synths swimming, bass pondering, a gentle cymbal tapping. its the sound of thoughtful admiration, as if lapien is standing in front of the citys towering gothic cathedral, motionless in the midst of a now modern metropolis. but then, as loops spring uncomfortably back and an insistent beat thunders into the fray, one realizes that this is no time for admiring architecture: this is a night drive through the city – coarse orange streetlamps, chrome blue reflections, droplet-stained window panes. it is, also, at an unusually and unsettlingly fast pace, dragging its deeper house timbres and textures upwards. conforces mix is anything but restful: alarms in the distance fall around offbeat rhythms of increasingly diverse dynamics, bringing rain down on the city at night. to end, fred ps composition is heavy & uncompromising, yet it quivers with synths washed in beautiful, calming ambience
