the 3rd album from french togolese band vaudou game is a fantastic funk trip on double vinyl.

vaudou game, the french afro-funk band, is back from togo with a brand new album called otodi (out oct 26th 2018).
otodi was the name of the recording studio in lomé, closed in 1987, and which peter solo, the band leader and his crew reopened during the spring 2018 to record these all analog 13 brilliant songs.
from this amazing album, here comes a 7 inch single dedicated to afro-funk dj’s and radio. pure afro-funk with togolese soul!

including 2 remixes by osunlade under the collective name of yoruba soul! since their first acclaimed album apiafo, vaudou game turned down the heat over 160 stages across the world. peter solo has displayed his vaudou chants and charisma around the globe. on the road he and osunlade met and shared their musical visions. kidayu is the name of the 2nd opus and means “sharing”: it’s exactly what those versions of “on se pousse” are about. ! limited press.

the first musical scale on apiafo leans towards raw funk with a sound similar to the famous 70s bands, l orchestre poly rythmo de cotonou and el rego. funk, is the skeletal structure of this record, and provided the opportunity for peter to invite his uncle, roger damawuzan - the famous pioneer of the 70s soul scene – on two tracks. their collaboration on *pas contente* is a highlight on this 100% analog album. apiafo was entirely recorded, mixed and mastered with old tapes and vintage instruments.

(a nod to supertramp s crisis? what crisis?) is one of those albums. its silken-smooth production, irresistible grooves, funk-tinged guitars, lush soundscapes and general glowing presence could easily lead one to believe that have dug up a lost disco gem from the 1970s. however, behind the disco-pop gleam lies eerie dystopian sci-fi ruminations of a futuristic bent and tones that can often feel as french as they do asian or african. this sort of cross-continental exploration is an expansion on bvo s previous two eps, the man behind the organisation, adrien durand, says. -i tried to continue the musical expedition between dystopian science-fiction haunted africa - plus haitian vaudou on -soleil dieu- - and futuristic asia. addressing, in a double entendre manner, some of the political issues that i am sensitive to.- in fact the jungle in question in the album s title is a metaphorical one and one that creates a vast series of environments for durand to explore such subjects as world trade, utopian ideals and themes of idols, as well as of time and communication. however, one will need to speak french to decipher such explorations, as well as shake off the natural impulse to move with every glorious beat on its 13 tracks, of which are moved along by maud nadal and agathe bonitzer s golden vocals.

fantastic and incredibly rare afro-disco album from 1978. originally released on the seminal french disco label barclay, this album seamlessly blends elements of african, afrobeat, funk and disco styles, with segments continually morphing and evolving into new tracks. irresistibly funky and percussive, this album’s drumming patterns and melodies grandually hypnotise the listener, with only outbreaks of african chanting breaking up the grooves. the b-side is effectively one long drum track broken down into 7 segments that never drop a beat. this album really takes the listener on a journey to africa, via 1978 new york, and is a real one of a kind. it’s also a samplers dream with no end of complex drum patterns and basslines to recycle.
