london based artist ben vince is best known for his minimal & transcendent saxophone soundscapes. with assimilation we find ben treading new ground with his recorded output, moving away from the limitations of solo saxophone, instead embracing collaboration and communication to forge new paths. whilst vince’s sax work still undeniably holds ‘assimilation’ together, the new territories explored by working with an artistically diverse range of collaborators allows new life and influence to flow through ben’s work. the album features collaborations with micachu (mica levi), rupert clervaux, merlin nova, valentina magaletti, and cam deas. ben vince has also recently collaborated on a 12inch with joy o (forthcoming on hessle audio).

hessle audio is proud to present the first collaborations between longtime friend joy o and saxophonist ben vince. introduced to each other by jon rust, the two tracks are a result of studio sessions together as well as manipulation of bens existing recordings. both tracks explore the tonal, textural and rhythmic possibilities of bens playing within a focused dancefloor framework. ben vince will be releasing a solo lp with where to now? in late may, featuring collaborations with micachu and percussionist rupert clervaux.

‘zibaldone i of cvx’ is the first in a series of releases from rupert clervaux (sian alice group, recent collaborations with beatrice dillon, spring heel jack, treader records...) which take their name from the title of italian poet giacomo leopardi’s extensive notebooks. they are collections of sketches, vignettes and musical footnotes to rupert’s ongoing and varied endeavours as a musician, listener, reader and writer. this first piece is in five sections (titles listed below), consisting of three thematic poetry recitals, read by clervaux and others over sweltering ambient arrangements, along with two clattering percussive tracks created using a variety of sounds across the fidelity spectrum and finely sourced, layered samples. the result is a meandering and diverse musical journey which threads together succinct meditations on originality by leopardi and silvina ocampo, and salutary warnings from hölderlin and derek walcott! ‘zibaldone i’ is presented as a 12” with a fold-out poster by belgian artist coline cornélis.
