mika vainio and franck vigroux’s peau froide, le&#769,,,,ger soleil was a dense and complex record, a collection of sonic sculptures forged in the heavy tonal matter. it was the product of a lengthy creative process, articulated through studio sessions and live performances. the result was a huge amount of material that the duo actually decided to partition into more than one release, the album being the first in line. the new 6-tracker ep ignis makes for the first posthumous release from the two producers, after the untimely passing of vainio in 2017.

in physics, entropy is a quantity generally described as the measure of disorder within any kind of thermodynamic system, including the universe. it counts the microscopic states that system can assume when open, interacting with others or getting altered by external conditions.
thus, entropy makes for the perfect description of the way ilpo väisänen (pan sonic, i- lp-o in dub) and dirk dresselhaus (schneider tm, a s s, locust fudge) have approached music creation since the establishment of their collaborative project angel (now die angel) in 1999. allowing energy to flow freely through machines, bodies and different acoustic conditions, they’ve generated a powerful archive of mutating sonic states. a kind of creative attitude that favors exploring the physical complexity of unstructured electronics.
that’s where the title for their first release on cosmo rhythmatic comes from, “entropien” being the finnish word and the german plural for entropy. getting back to the stripped down set of their beginnings (modular synths, effects, and processed guitar), they’ve come out with one of their most, intense, rawest and noisiest albums to date, showcasing an impressing scale of dynamics while attacking the senses with belligerent tones. oren ambarchi also shows up on two tracks, intertwining his drums, field recording, and guitar within the duo’s discordant layers.

genial is more than happy to introduce you to bal, a new project based in italy. bal is an alias for the well known producers andrea bigi & marius laurentiu, who have previously released in labels such as viva music and catwash records.
with their rhythmatic ep in genial they are entering into a new sound territory presenting 3 original tracks with their main characteristics being minimal groovy drums, deep trippy samples and most importantly subtle bass.
taking over the remix, is the mysterious iovan iorgovan, whose name is a character in romanian mythology. so hailing from romania, he gives his interpretation of *le vent* and goes even deeper using the dream synths and atmospheric vocals of the original track.

moscow based lipelis returns to l.i.e.s. under his tmo moniker this time in collaboration with producer andy butler. this gets straight and to the point harkening back to the bleep days of old (think lfo or rhythmatic as a starting point) and does major damage. traditional 12 inch style with alternate mixes on the a and b sides, take warning this will fly.

w is the much-anticipated debut album of waage, a young & exciting reykjavik-based producer. his debut ep offers a spacious, texturally intoxicating and hypnotic minimal techno a journey through rhythmatic musical landscapes.aw1 is a ode to basic channel a propulsive, yet delicate, mantra. the repetitive nature of it will take a hold of the listeners and project them into previously unknown state of mind. w6 is reminiscent of some of the finest works of legendary icelandic techno producer exos, who happens to be the mentor of this young up and coming artist. the whole ep is driven by curiosity and passion, and despite some obvious influences manages to offer something fresh and exotic for the adventurous music consumer.athule records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of iceland s most renowned electronic musicians.

the second of this year’s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of “remember in reverse”, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, “soft attack” takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. “soft attack (drum version)” pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of ‘remember in reverse” from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we’re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album “whorl”, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they’ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

invisible incs latest limited 12inch brings cosmic adventurer secret circuit into the fold. secret circuit is the project of musician and visual artist eddie ruscha (laughing light of plenty, blase, thriftcoteque, amongst others) whose solo and collaborative activities have issued forth an inordinate number of stellar releases on labels such as emotional response, beats in space, internasjonal spesial, esp institute, exist dance and rush hours no label.

jelly, made by remy de feyter - glass blower artist, is the second lamp that features on the cover of this ep series. just as the former ep, the tracks listen to names of natural stones with colors similar to the colors of jelly. the tracks this time, again created by dieter vorderhake, are more techno oriented, raw edges in the sounds and a rhythmatic drive create a mysteries dark atmosphere. this ep is definitely made for the dance floor!

the head of grounded theory berlin returns to sonic groove with his strongest outing on the label to date. henning baer brings forth a rough and tough diverse four cut ep of chunky rhythmatic techno. recording the songs during live jams and using a previously decided pool of hardware this ep has a nice old school vibe. the sound production however is very much in the modern day with its well crafted mix downs. this release has strong mass appeal for the purist techno connoisseur.
