celebrating osiris’ 50th release in two parts, label head simon shreeve unveils ‘deep summer’ as the first: a downtempo, vocal-led track with a pace and laid-back vibe not usually associated with his mønic alias. on the b side, a remix from none other than burial offers a distinctly smokier take on the track, full of percussive melodies that weave into surprisingly major-chord territory towards the end of the song’s ten minutes. this is a release that sees both artists pushing their respective music’s preconceptions.

tresor records proudly presents the second chapter in mønic’s musical journey on the label. head of osiris music, mønic is an accomplished producer whose style can be defined as raw yet exceptionally refined, allowing for a certain industrial inspiration to ooze from his exquisite sound design. ‘four sides of truth’ opens a conversation between pristenely defined low frequencies and an infinity of fleeting, chirping synth layers. this discussion will continue throughout the record, taking additional drums into the exchange and swirling into ‘point to the sun’ in full panning effect. on the other side, lower frequencies undoubtedly take over and win the argument in ‘self doubt is worthless’. uk-based kamikaze space programme contributes with a revisited version of ‘morse’, initially released on the parsons hill ep. preserving the abrasive textures of the original, ksp dramatically raises the track’s thrilling factor.

indeed, everything is permissible if god does not exist, and man is consequently abandoned, for he cannot find anything to rely on - neither within nor without. first, he finds there are no excuses. for if it is true that existence precedes essence, we can never explain our actions by reference to a given and immutable human nature. in other words, there is no determinism - man is free, man is freedom. if, however, god does not exist, we will encounter no values or orders that can legitimize our conduct. thus, we have neither behind us, nor before us, in the luminous realm of values, any means of justification or excuse. we are left alone and without excuse. that is what i mean when i say that man is condemned to be free: condemned, because he did not create himself, yet nonetheless free, because once cast in to the world, he is responsible for everything he does.

picking up where open water versions left off, the habits versions ep is another techno inflected project which again allows a cross section of the osiris roster to leave their own stamp on one piece of anonymous source material. leading the charge on habits versions is the second appearance from mønic whose tense, breakneck offering is the perfect complement to oscar muleros spacious interpretation, arguably the most dancefloor orientated of the release. the second half of the ep sees a heavyweight pairing of the seemingly inexhaustible killawatt and the lithe, forceful sound of amorce on their debut appearance on the osiris roster.
