inner sunset recordings is at it again with another slammin 4-track 12- vinyl e.p. that showcases the label s distinctively deep sound and classic roots, only this time with a modern twist! scheduled for release in april of 2018, squares there – -contemporary tools e.p.- (isr1209) takes isr s catalog to new territories with a more tech-oriented vocabulary of sounds and an array of modern production techniques never before employed on an isr release. for the classy and deep old-school heads out there, -she s shopping drunk again- (a1) is sure to be an instant pleaser with its jazzy vibraphone solos, soft organ lines, and walking bassline. -my sisters- (a2) meticulously utilizes repetition, major chords, and sub basses to blissfully numb and entrance the floor. side b s two versions of -hard press-, with their chunky beat and heavy bass, are an interesting study in variations on a theme. the -light mix- (b1) serves up radiant pads and swirling synth stabs, and the -dark mix- commits to taking the listener on a brooding, introspective, and psychedelic journey. this e.p. is not to be missed, as an awesome angle on the isr soundprint – one that seamlessly fits in with the rest of the catalog!

clandestine boogie are back, enlisting omsk s sunner soul to provide the goods for their third release. the title track voyager 84 sets the scene perfectly drawing you in with dreamy swelling synths, fizzing hats, and chunky hits alongside choice lo-fi vocal snippets & cosmic top lines - smooth as you like! kim and buran then steer things on a funkier flex with their take on voyager 84 . staccato guitars laid over the top of a heavy bassline, succulent pads and spacey keys provide an intergalactic disco journey with you strapped in the front seat. on the flip side sunner soul team up with fellow russian producer, scruscru. spring mood picks up the tempo working bouncing arps and wobbly synths behind a thumping rhythm - a killer slice of disco tinged house as we move into those sunshine months. closing out the e.p. it s peak time, boogie laden, blissful goodness in the form of joy . funk-fueled guitar licks, an instantly catchy melody and the perfect amount of effects to enhance those build ups and break downs lay the foundations for a sure fire summer hit!

following their work compiling last year’s hugely well-received ten years of jaunt ep, blackhall & bookless return to their label with four varied, equally confident shades of their distinct, versatile dancefloor vision. ‘forward’ is an instantly enveloping slice of big-room techno that’s entirely club ready and yet focused on atmosphere and tension, taking no prisoners and yet unfolding on it’s own terms. that same ecstatic and almost ethereal club pressure reemerges on ‘voyager’, under which gently unleashes a skittering landscape of blissful breakbeats and vangelisesque synths. inspired by the unforgiving sea that borders their hometown in the north east of england, ‘ocean’ is perhaps the most intense moment on the ep, dragging listeners into wave after wave of undulating dub chords, always underpinned by driving, raw and percussive drums. ending in forgiving ambience, this moment of respite leads to the conclusion, ‘occupy’. a beatless send-off, it nonetheless remains equally compelling and vast in it’s filmic and complex sound design, showcasing blackhall & bookless’ finely tuned meld of the substantial and the subtle. tinged with the north sea air and the pulse of detroit, blackhall & bookless continue to master the sound of agile, accessible yet uncompromising club music.

a new optimo music disco plate and the debut release from feon. when these tracks first came my way i instantly knew they were ripe for a release on the label. original, idiosyncratic, full of imagination and featuring a couple of dancefloor hits, how could i resist? ’also, “the sun is high” was surely destined to become a sun-blissed summer anthem.

jonny nash remix! not an animal keeps up the pace and pressure with yet another high quality distinctive release, further cementing the labels specific sound and revealing more of the scope of its musical mission. machete savane are compromised of label co owner andy bainbridge and producer/composer saul richards. manticore continues with their instantly recognisable hi octane yet organic discofied sound, as previously displayed via their releases on cynic and redux. remix wise, there s a very much night and day choice to be had here, with johnny nash (land of light) providing his trademark blissed-out ambience to a beatless rendition and ian blevins taking the original even further into dancefloor territory, upping the tempos and evoking the drive of paperclip people.

hot on the heels of dj deeps inaugural kern mix for tresor comes *kern vol.2*, selected and mixed by gigolos boss dj hell. the first 12 inch vinyl ~ the exclusives ~ comes packed with previously unreleased tracks, specially crafted for kern vol.2 and carefully selected and re-edited by dj hell. argentinean producer extraordinaire jonas kopp offers his own interpretation of the hell sounds with x, an incendiary and wreckless number of instant gritty appeal. on the flip, two reworks operated by hell specially for the occasion. the infamous flashback 86 by capracara receives a raw treatment, for full dancefloor effect. the 1993 classic by halogen (aka zach roberts), bliss gets extended and reconstructed with complete new drums.

when delorean toured with teengirl fantasy last spring they told us about a song that had really blown them away. when they shared it with us we understood why. it was called >cheaters< and sounded like an instant classic. very different to the trademark psychedelic jams of the duo, the song was homage to classic chicago house from a modern perspective. built around layers of blissful synths and borrowing the vocals of first committees >cheaters never win<, it had that kind of energy that we sometimes miss in contemporary dance music. later that summer, john talabot visited new york and became aware that the track was going to be released by true panther sounds only as part of the album >7am<. something sparked inside us. we felt it was not fair that such an incredible track had to share its vinyls grooves with other songs so we thought it would be nice to dedicate a full maxi side to it.

the new album from danish electronic trio system is a special kind of collaborative effort with piano magician nils frahm. his purpose-built improvisations on synth, organ and piano served as source material for the members of system (thomas knak, anders remmer & jesper skaaning), who merged his warm acoustic tones with their minimalist digitalism and set out to translate their distinctive clicks ÕnÕ cuts electronics into vivid soundscapes. over two years in the making, the resulting nine tracks are as sonically intriguing as they are touching. ranging from the mellow bliss of the title track to echoes of 90Õs and 2000Õs electronica and ambient sequences frequented by mesmerizing movements and sounds. the blending of piano and digital tones and noises into emotive pieces might instantly recall the work of alva noto and ryuichi sakamoto, though system and frahm come to quite different results.
