ATLANTIS TO INTERZONE
12 Inch
18.10.06
one listen to ‘atlantis to interzone’ and the several miles of dots between post punk psychedelic pop and pill popping dance music are quickly joined, where screaming sirens and samples straight out of a field in ‘89 give way to the punked out half-falsetto, half melodic breakneck vocals and drums. klaxons (that s jamie, simon and james) created a chorus that can be both screamed drunkenly and sung quietly to yourself on the bus. this anthem (of the year?) is offered with remixed version by our extra-skills duo digitalism, alongside an extra long industrial technoid mix by nightmoves and a ‘break for love’ mix by dave p and sparkles’

souvenir records!!! lets just start this introduction with a quote: >we like the idea of seeing music as a souvenir, an impression you take from somewhere. something intimate to remember<. this is how the brothers schwarz aka tiefschwarz set the agenda for souvenir music, which they created with their french companion arthur velasquez and thus finally set up their own imprint after an eventful decade in the musicbiz. even just a quick listing of mighty deeds in the underground dance community would fill up page after page. if the story of king midas wasn t already centuries old, someone would have made it up now to describe the phenomenon of recent tiefschwarz remixes. who would serioulsy doubt that their golden touch also will rub on their own label and turn this start-up into another stellar success? cooked up in their berlin the first course >hey< by the artist ichundu is set to become the flavour of the month, even more so with extra delicious ingredients tiefschwarz added to their remix. yummy !! played by sven väth, sasse, chloe, tobi neumann, karotte...

FEELING FREE

13.10.06
released across 2 separately packaged 12s, feeling free could be the closest thing to a summer anthem that soul music has had in quite a while !! hoop , whose soulclap updates of 90s hip-hop classics have garnered praise and plays from all angles, has worked his sample-adelic magic using jazz pianos and horns to bring fresh harmonies to an already musically rich work. coming across like a drum heavy quantic, this mix is one for the beat heads, as is its flip-side partner, which is delivered by natural self , (breakin bread /tru thoughts). as usual his drums are raw, his bass looms large and the authentic live funk feel is kept alive and heavily kicking

bugz in the attic release the second single from the inspired debut album back in the dog house,a live favourite and deftly handled cover of yarborough and peoples 1980 bassline heavy dont stop the music. bugz, pioneers of deep and dirty dance music, brought a brimming confidence along with the experimentation of their debut, which glistens with stone cold funk, boogie and disco but remains resolutely contemporary thanks to their immersion in club culture and the broad pool of guest vocal talents at their disposal. for dont stop the music former basement jaxx collaborator sharlene hector was given the task of re doing a bugz favourite, and the result is an out and out west london bruk up twist that takes the basslines from p funk, the soul of the original and a certain pirate radio grit and delivers the very essence of bugz.
