for all the wonderfully subtle shell-breaking he did on his full-length, mark e falls back on old, slow habits for his new single, >the day<. and welcomely, we might add. pitching things down to a basement lounge floor crawl, the midlands dj/producer wraps his always chugging kicks and snares in serpentine synth-bass, jazzy, tripleted hi-hats, and moaning, wordless soul vocals. its grasp is tantric—hinting coyly at ecstatic release, but never fully delivering. for the vinyl junkies that bought stone breaker and missed out on it the first time around (it was absent from that version), this release should be a no brainer. but >the day< isnt carrying all the weight here. a new track called >special fx< will have sample hounds—particularly those with a thing for classic electro-pop—salivating. and the oft imitated, never replicated prins thomas shows up on the flip for a (naturally) eleven- minute revamp of >the day<, livening up the bass and drum patterns, adding in strings, piano, guitar, organ, and ending up with something that totally could have emanated from a camaro at some point in the early seventies. (albeit, one owned by someone with interest in eleven-minute instrumentals.) it even has a fade out!

worst friends is ryan cavanagh and john paul jones (no, not that one) from brooklyn. they are also known amongst the beards as tom croose and slow hands. we actually suspect they are pretty good friends … making this sweet sweet music together and all … oh, and they just had a cool record out on oz-label future classic. the music sounds very unlike any short persons playing sports of any kind though slow and low is definitely the tempo. there is the beautiful balearic original, eric duncan gives us a psychedelic ride on the disco carousel and prins thomas channels the song through recently aqquired skills as a choirboy and 4 finger keyboards chords…. oh my….

silky vocals, warm basslines, gentle guitar licks and a smooth melody – a perfect ode to a beautiful day. prins thomas kicks off the 12 inch with an epic 12 min long remix. eli escobar remixes night spot, a heart pounding dance floor scorcher and trap.avoid do a minimal disco remix of under the sun.

dj ageishi is like the sensei of japanese djs: a true legend and active since 1973, he can scoop from an incredible musical wealth of experiences yet has his ear to whats happening in the now. this mixture of knowledge and curiosity for the new also characterizes his debut on internasjonal with colleague dj akin, who left his mark outside of japan with a remix for brennan greens >900lb man<. rattling drum breaks from the funk end of disco are the backbone for a soprano sax lick slightly remiscent of coltranes >a love supreme< that floats on top of noise distortet sheets of synth before the >rain parade< makes a total turn ending with a comforting lullaby like rhodes melody. prins thomas boils it all down to a simmering slow dub remake, while mark e lets all the single ingredients patiently lets every ingredient from the original develop its full-bodied flavour before kicking up the heat.

prins thomas spreads proper, earthy dub house vibes in a good old bobby konders tradition with >lang tung ting<. a hard driving jacker with dry, punching drums and grumbling, low-frequency acidic sounds not modulated by an 808 synth but from warped cello and bassoon lines. an ode to the timeless magic of beats and bass. much less sparse >ny maskin< on the flip is a dizzying disco/ rock jam backed by african derived beats and a gyranting, buoyant guitar lick . prins thomas brilliantly proves himself a jack of many trades again

another debut on full pupp henning severud is telephones, hailing from bergen but recently relocated to berlin. as a special treat prins thomas regurgitates the track with a little gastric acid.

first of 3 volumes taken from the incredibly rare japan only cd release inner films 70 from 2009. the sketch is simple, modern disco artists take on seminal film scores from the 70s and give them a twist. first we have norweigan disco wizard prins thomass take on the theme from rocky – gonna fly now. all live instrumentation… thisll rock your socks off. on the flip japanese artist foog (mule musiq) gives the theme from close encounters of the third kind a new lick of paint, while fellow japanese sonic adventurer hideo kobayashi (apt. international / bite grooves) turns rhapsody in blue into a tech-y workout.

after a recent short n sweet stint on tensnakes mirau imprint irish ex-pat mano le tough reemerges on internasjonal where he first saw the light of the day as a producer with the much acclaimed warhorn. yet even with such a rather small, straightforward discography mano managed to sculpture his unmistakeably very own style fusing the deeper shades of house and techno with a strong melodic sensibility that one would never even get the faintest idea to file it under the mostly bland tech-house genre. oblique boast a perfect effective dramaturgy with slighty spooky broken melody box theme rising out of a thick mist of grinding chords before morphing into a deep acid finale. french gentlemen of distinction and many styles chateau flight toughen up the beats and throw in some african wood percussions and sparse psychedelic dub effects for a superb rhythmically multi-layered rework.

new kid on the block jacob korn (dresden, germany yall!) convinced sometime somewhere in toronto with a hearty live set that took a route over hip hop, down tempo house and all kinds of funkiness until it peaked with the disco-house-craze >i like the sun (but not on leds)<. much to the delight of a present running back a&r. hands were shook and it took only 2 and a half years until the test pressing arrived. supplemented with the slow burning >selene< that really gets you the second time around, prevents the typical mistakes current deep house likes to make (at least, we think so) and is the sun gods sister, the a-side is good to go. flip the script to see prins thomas in a good temper, rolling out the red carpet with one of his tried and tested remixes. >i like the sun< piles up to 13 minutes of true diskomiks glory including drums that go on forever (bonus beats, yall!) and some eye-cue-markers for those of you who are deaf already. well, swell

the space disco kings are back! they continue to astound, invigorate and inspire as every twist and nuance is embellished with a warmth and glow few seem capable of capturing!

after a 2 and a half year wait i finally managed to knock out a new single. its actually only my 3rd solo single ever. im very happy with it but ive got mixed feelings trying to describe it. you spend a year working on a track and a lazy shop worker or journalist will lump you into the >cosmicbalearicspacewhatever< straightjacket in 2 seconds, i can at least resist to do the same… anyway, two are quite psychedelic and one is some kind of cover version of one of my favourite villalobos trax. as you can hear ive had loads of fun fooling around in the studio playing the bass, percussion, drums(badly) and synths(even worse…)…

nail biting punk disco! speaker shredding synths and drunken, chanted choruses! a valiant first stab at the disco dance charts! comes with along with two equally mental prins thomas remixes. the nordic demigod brings the funky disco beat with his first interpretation of double fisted, while on the flip side he creates a head nodding balearic version that makes one feel a bit like they should be lying in the tall, tall grass watching a liquid gel light show in outer space.

bitches brew are back with their next wild installment - purple somersault. if the previous release was filed under country dub tronica, this release is psychedelic surf cosmic disco. kind of like link wray wipes out with giorgio moroder. an interesting and rather beautiful concept, in fact the whole wild rumpus story is rather interesting and beautiful. two pioneers of forward thinking music, but from very different backgrounds combine to make the kind of music you simply cant ignore but at the same time cant quite put your finger on.
