san francisco-based dj/producer nick monaco has long been part of the soul clap family, releasing his first 12- on the label back in 2012. mating call, a double 12- set running at album length, is easily his most expansive release yet. it s typically eccentric, delivering a range of songs - featuring his own distinctive vocals - that blend numerous styles whilst retaining a loose, funky and altogether rather kaleidoscopic feel. it s rooted in balearic pop, but also touches on dub, deep house, boogie, dub disco and a strangely deep and contemporary take on the triple-beat rhythms of glam rock. it s hard to accurately describe, but is really rather good, certainly, it s one of soul clap s strongest releases of recent times.

finally the moment has arrived for us to release new original music on our own label! this monster release has a history that takes us back more than four years to a 48 hour studio session at our beloved marcy hotel in brooklyn, ny. the original collaborative effort came from a laundry list of familiar crew love players including soul clap s charlie and eli, wolf + lamb s gadi mizrahi, no regular play s greg paulus, the lovely deniz kurtel and even mr. fantastic himself, lee curtiss. after all was said and done the body and inspiration of the record was there but what was lacking was a strong vocal. enter robert owens, arguably one of the most prolific and sonically recognizable singers in house music period

occasionally jay haze will take some time away from his productions on contexterrior to release music with other labels like leftroom and desolate, or he ll provide a mix for fabric. here, in 2014, jay haze debuts on soul clap - and brings some friends with him. these friends are signor andreoni, an italian producer that s not released a solo record since 2010 (his last was with haze) and the unknown jordy lockruf. -take a dip- is a new-school cut of retrospective italo with those moaning synths perfect for a rimini dancefloor, while the two joints with lockruf provide one clunky, slide guitar twanging disco jam and a shuffling house cut that ever so lightly verges on electro swing - but not too much!

soulful, gospel-inspired deep house is what joaquin diazs rhythm&soul alias brings to jef ks kiss-inspired silver network - goin strong since 99. it is his debut for the french label and he s given the royal treatment thanks to remixes from john dimas and freak n chics djebali, which includes a bonus dub mix. dimas rework is energetic and free flowing, highlighting his unique style best heard on releases for bass culture and clapp. meanwhile djebalis contributions provide two alternatives, something light and cruisey, while the dub is reduced and a house djs ultimate tool ready for the working.

new yorks kim ann foxman steps up for the next instalment of heidi presents jackathon jams with a helping hand from bostons favourite duo soul clap and polish heavyweights catz n dogz. the aside features the deep and hypnotic be mine followed by the equally intoxicating club jam let me be the one (new york club mix). on the bside soul clap deliver a spaced out remix of let me be the one while catz n dogz add a dose of acid to their rolling version of the track.

the story behind this record begins in 2004 on newbury street in boston massachusetts. juice belushi founding member paul foley is dressed head to toe in 80s regalia, including vest, fingerless leather gloves, fedora and chain connecting nose-ring to ear pierce. its like a scene out of michael jacksons bad, minus the dancing. at his feet is a boom box blasting freestyle and 80s electro-funk, hes handing out mix cds. needless to say we were intrigued!

on remix duty, soul clap transforms the tempo and vibe into a dance groove guaranteed to get the juices flowing like a glass of funky cold medina.

block rocking, pop locking lonely c and baby prince are at it again with their latest fraiche ep on soul clap records. the troublemaking two-some take us back to 2011. it was a weekend in late august and new york city was practically under martial law. news tickers warned frightened citizens that a hurricane called irene would strike at any minute, flooding most of manhattan and williamsburg where the boys sat gleefully snacking and talking shit inside the world famous marcy hotel. with all airplanes grounded and the trains halted it became clear that lc & bp were going nowhere. it began to rain, the wind picked up and as the skies darkened, nyc declared a state of emergency.

bay area wonder kid nick monaco makes his shining debut on soul clap records with this very limited 7inch release. the a side butterfly is a slo-mo, 808 laden, melodic piece of postmodern psychedelic e-funk. on the flip side my babys back (cant wait) delivers a response to 80s icon cameos single life. an innocent yet poignant and hopeful breakup- to-makeup love song, its clear that monaco isnt too shy to reveal his romantic side.

and as the sun set that evening, gator boots knew that the world would never hear the music unless he did something about it.
