when harold boue aka abstraxion invited fantastic man into his studio after playing together the night before he didnt knew he was planting the seed for a new project. as he recalls. it was a day of intense sun in marseille with not enough sleep. but the result was so great that it inspired harold to work on new tracks around the idea of creating music to reflect his city: a bit rough. but luminous and influenced by elements of mediterranean. african and northern european cultures. this has translated into a heavily percussive sound. in which tribal disco grooves invoke the spirits of voodoo-techno. three cuts driven by warmly distorted rhythms. bursts of primitive drums. rubbery synths and uplifting chants that overall feel like the first sunrays after an excursion through a dark cave: both blinding and blissful. the projects name is a tribute to the astrological sign of harolds son. who was born at the same time as the music on the ep. it was the definitive signal he needed to convince himself it was the right time to start something new and different. and an event that for sure helps understanding the vibes that this music transmits: as pure. fresh and powerful as only a new beginning can be.

amazing release! new soulsity! vinyl only! handpainted label! amazing release! new soulsity! vinyl only! handpainted label! homemade ep is signed by mihai popescu . labels twelve release . already releasing some of his older tracks at soulsity. here comes 4 of mihais latest works. on a side the ep starts with untitled 3. a powefull but smooth inner trip fusioned with the nostalgic feeling of the 90s and is a tribute to the past. present and future generations of house-heads enthusiasts. it also introduces the second track of this side. >once upon..< a minimal-house journey to the realms of dreamy stories and infinite possibilities on the >hills of nowhere<. flip the side and you will find a more minimal orientated expressive part of mihai popescu . also a shift in the mood of the entire ep. b1 >prea serios< and >untitled 1< might seem the dark side of the moon but are rather infused with the same energy and afinity for dreamful scenarios.
this mirror-like musical progression starts with lots of dynamics and harmonies which then continue with a more sonically tranquil section while heading towards a dynamic ending. thus completing the symmetry and binding both parts in a seamless album.
british dj/producer bearface has been on a bit of a roll of later. aside from releases on his own beartone label. the london-based label owner has also found time to deliver outstanding cuts to the likes of exploited ghetto. which housed his last release. the wonderful moon . this time around. he comes correct on his own beartone label with a record that s notable for its quirky demeanour and undoubted eclecticism. opening up the release is the sounds of mumbai nights . although it gets us underway in fairly innocuous fashion. it quickly finds its feet thanks to a brilliant. whaling indian-inspired vocal that weaves in and out throughout. a whimsical track of that sort that s sure to be a hit with more daring djs. it s an auspicious start to a release that s never lacking in personality. as is his forte. bearface then goes much deeper in search of kicks on data storm . taking us taking us down the rabbit hole to a place that s full of enticing oddities throughout. after this. the frankly bonkers sound of the electro-leaning title track sista take centre stage. a thoroughly intense peak-time workout. it s full of attitude and an indication of the producer s more gnarly and abrasive approach. all things considered. it s sure to get the night moving in an altogether different direction wherever it s unleashed. closing out the ep is the drum heavy sounds of march . a broody track that s tailor made for the night s more relentless moments. it s a a fitting way with which to sign off an eclectic and dizzying release. the latest chapter in the beartone story is a captivating listen throughout.
very limited repress. ada kaleh sets off this year with >nedesluș........it în amurg<. the ep features three pieces designed in ada kalehs distinctive and at times peculiar style. opening with luring and intricate layers of sounds added to exotic rhythms on the whirling dervishes inspired >nedesluș........it în amurg<. and continuing with the folding and unfolding haze of >morgana avidoma<. a metaphorical journey through the vast cosmic desert. 180g vinyl only.

some used to think that here s a guy who s just too cute to be underground. but sebastien bouchet proved them all wrong - with releases like the trippy -fallen angel- ep (kompakt 210) or his gutsy contribution to kompakt s speicher series (kompakt extra 77). he also had a spectacular appearance on you and your hippie friends inaugurating release -a very nice combinado volume uno- (yayhf 01) with the tune -captain drag- - which went on to be played around the world. from clubs and festivals to chanel fashion runways. now. sebastien returns with coyote cry. his first full-blown ep for the hippie dance sister label: eclectic and unique. this five tracker reflects different sides and moods in his work. but always takes the momentum center stage - from the guitar-infused vocal shaker jambe de bois to the heavy-duty bass of jatagarazi or the melancholic drive of the glistening title cut.

following some now cult releases on mutli culti. turbo recordings (with the much-acclaimed “mz”) and his recent lp “lotos land” on japanese imprint endless flight. our favourite east-berlin born child sascha funke is finally coming up with an ep on hippie dance’s sister label your and your hippie friends. “i guess more than one of you have noticed my obsession with sascha funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part in my dj sets. after the pause he gave his solo work to put his attention into his amazing band project saschienne together with julienne dessagne (aka fantastic twins. also his partner in life). he came back with a really cool ep on kompakt records which i played over and over and left me wanting for more. being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before other people and when i would visit the coolest couple in berlin. sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. every time i would ask for those tracks to play them and in the club. people that i would play with would often ask who was behind them. as it happened with tiga one night in cologne. and eventually led to sascha’s music being released on turbo recordings and multi culti the following months. now i finally got the chance and honour to release a sascha funke ep on our own humble label... acatenango. like every time. it all started with me visiting berlin. sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his german car. me getting in trance while listening to it. asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets. three super cool tracks. all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable funke touch. powerful yet elegant. hypnotic yet fun. brutal yet sophisticated. sascha funke... he’s a hippie and he’s a friend.” rebolledo

magdalena s -elementum ep- is her first full ep on diynamic music. the 3-tracker marks the beginning of a busy summer season for her. the opening track -mountains of es cubells- pays tribute to ibiza s after party culture – which occurs in private houses that open when the clubs close. out in the warm air and sunlight. and a very intimate atmosphere. the protagonist s verdict -i think tonight i see ibiza like it was 25 years ago- sums it up perfectly. -nautilus- is a dreamy melodic house cut. ethereally swerving through a sea of hypnotic percussions and brassy synth elements.
closing off the record is -radialis-. a brooding and gloomily minimalistic techno tune.
mihai popescu s release follows metereze s lineage of house infused grooves. delivering feelings with each of the 4 tracks that shape mtrz010.1 and not any kind of feelings but those that can change the dancefloor collective state of mind in a blink of an eye.

fantastic twins. the solo artist formerly known as the twins. has always carried an air of transmutability - not only in a name creating its own hall of mirrors. but also in a constantly fluctuating sound. from the first spoken word interludes recorded as the truly fantastic dessagne twins from saint-etienne (for the pachanga boys’ infamous “we are really sorry” album) to myth-building solo releases on hippie dance and optimo music. as well as style- bending remixes for la mverte vs capablanca. moscoman and – most recently – fellow hippie dancer rebolledo.

northsouth records invite emergent talents chris geschwinder and henry hyde to whip up some dazzling peak time house fare. with each artist presenting themselves across two tracks. geschwinder is up first with the charging modern axis of evil. matching the haunting purr of the lead synths with an insistent kick and clap combo that can t be argued with. hes no slouch on in 2 either. getting into a subtly lopsided and seriously swinging spot that its hard to wriggle out of. henry hyde too seems to have a focused vision for what they create. fusing the pops and wobbles of minimal and matching it with the overall bulbous nature of the music on northsouth.
