*how you say* is the new single from factory floor. this is the third of three 12 inch singles and contains part of a wide and wonderful selection of remixes. this third ep contains new versions, both from bookworms, who turned in 2 new versions that were so good, we had no choice but to put them both out. bookworms aka nik dawson, had recorded many striking singles for both l.i.e.s. & confused house, collaborating with steve summers. this is his second remix for dfa (the first was for larry gus) and we are thrilled to have him back in the mix.

*how you say* is the new single from factory floor. this is the second of three 12 inch singles and contains part of a wide and wonderful selection of remixes. this second 12 inch contains new versions from gunnar haslam, who released a striking debut album last year on l.i.e.s., as well as a lean percussive house 12 inch single on chicagos argot records. the 12 inch also contains a remix from helena hauff (werk/pan), who made a distinctive mark in the dance community with a brilliant debut 12 inch on werk as well as single on pan under the alias black sites.

this first 12 contains new versions from daniel avery (phantasy), who released a striking debut album last year, as well as a string of much-played 12 inch singles. the 12 inch also contains a remix from invisible conga people (dfa), which marks the return of this elusive act, who recorded a fan-fave 12 inch for dfa in 2011, and have not been heard from since.

80s inspired synth / disco - electro - space anthem

fall back is the first single from the forthcoming debut lp on dfa records. the track is 8 minutes 30 seconds long. if you like factory floor, you will like this song. if you dont like factory floor, you will now. the b-sides are exclusive to vinyl and feature 3 separate loops taken from the single, created each by dom, gabe & nik. the lp is due for release may, 2013

factory floor offer up a substantial distraction while the band put the finishing touches on their debut album, due out on dfa records in early 2013. their last single two different ways is remixed by two different electronic music leaders. richard h kirk, co-founder of both cabaret voltaire and sweet exorcist, puts his own warped spin on the single, while perc aka ali wells, takes the original and piles on his signature throbbing bass for the main remix. perc also offers up a noisy mix taking avant waves of feedback and noise and shaping into something unexpectedly beautiful.

despite the post-industrial label often affixed to factory floor, there is a greater complexity of sound within the bands music that defies such facile descriptions. yes, there are rigid, fixed beats, and other sounds from the manufacturing plant, as suggested by the trios moniker. but there is also an underlying danceability that belies the seeming austerity of the sound, a hint at warmth that cuts through the permafrozen exterior. that curious balance has paid endless dividends thus far: they have been remixed by producer gavin russom, liars angus andrew and no ages dean allen, remixed and released by optimo, remixed and collaborated live with throbbing gristle legend chris carter, and remixed and produced (!) by joy division and new orders stephen morris. its been a whirlwind few years in terms of musical accolades, and factory floors dfa debut is a glimpse into why.

its early days yet, but things are going well for the london-based trio factory floor: nik colk (guitar/vocals/electronics), gabe gurnsey (drums/ electronics) and dom butler (electronics/vocals). and optimo music are in the unique position of doing a remix for factory floor and having a exclusive single release for it. ~ (r e a l l o v e) an optimo (espacio) mix is already getting attention from james holden, the quietus, and it was only mastered about a fortnight ago. the optimo (espacio) mix was made at the behest of factory floor an was done by optimo music head honcho jd twitch alongside his sometime collaborator dave clark.

mugwumps subfield label introduces its first signings with the belgian-italo duo front de cadeaux (brilliantly named after the belgian ebm pioneer group front 242). front de cadeaux are dj athome & dj hugosan. hugo runs the roccodisco label with italian disco mastermind rodion (gomma/nein) while belgian killer dj athome has been spinning italo wave & house in brussels since the 90 s. they expertly produced their own brand of supreme rallentato, which is a fucked-up slo-mo italo, acid, disco, techno and house hybrid that so rightly fits with subfield s mission statement of covering subgenres. their 2 first outings on roccodisco have been remixed by fabrizio mammarella and optimos jd twitch, and a staple in ivan smagghes sets. this full ep on subfield features 2 original f2c obscene & dirty slo-mo tracks at their most playful, ouvre ta bouche and front de cadeaux theme plus the magnificent dub-house of killers. remixes comes courtesy of factory floor s gabe gurnsey (dfa) in a quite brutal bleep-techno mood and manchester s nu-balearic kingpin ruf dug (music for dreams), getting into what he described as a 808 snare roll warehouse analog fucked-up version.

shift work are an electronic duo who have previously released on jd twitch’s glasgow label optimo. they debut on houndstooth with ‘document ii’, an ep developed from live jams on outboard analogue gear. ‘abandoned hands’ is lean and raw, an angular bassline and indecipherable vox punctuating the relentless 4/4 kick drum and pattering percussion. ‘sbfm’ is fuller-bodied, with the modulating bassline taking centre stage, draped in loose synths and topped with a deadpan vocal refrain. shift work invited remixes from their associates, with dva damas dialling down the tempo and stripping back ‘abandoned hands’ further still, whilst factory floor return to remix duty on houndstooth with a typically subtle yet infectious building groove. cut and mastered by matt colton at alchemy and limited to 500 copies worldwide.

remix !!phantasy are proud to present a remix of ghost cultures guidecca. a stretched rework from factory floor s gabe gurnsey, transforming the original into a glitchy progression of post-industrial tech house, complete with chopped vocal edits and hypnotic synth lines. limited to a few one-sided 12s.

there is no doubt that daniel avery was one of 2012s most exciting djs and producers. a critically acclaimed fabric mix cd as well as the need electric and water jump eps gaining praise and plays from djs as diverse as ritchie hawtin, tiga, maya jane coles, soulwax, damian lazarus, skream, the chemical brothers, seth troxler and erol alkan, whose phantasy label is daniels home.

in the finest dub tradition, mark stewart has returned to his highly-acclaimed >the politics of envy< album, sonically savaging it into a new monster, suitably entitled >exorcism of envy<.
released on december 3rd, the set sees stewart revisit the soundscapes which hotwired the original album as a viciously spot-on aural depiction of our world, remoulding its ingredients with gloves off and intensity levels on overdrive.
