debut release on the new kaleidoscope jazz chair reissues label. first release contains some beautiful and well crafted dubbed out techno by kit clayton with his 1998 deadlock tune originally released as the b2 on the 4-track unreliable networks ep (on silent servant s label cytrax ), it slipped under many a record buyer s radar. nearly 20 years later, now that electronic musical tastes have matured and expanded, the time seemed right to re-present, this lush, atmospheric, percussive work out to the heads, deservedly pressed on a full side of 12- vinyl. pussy clap was originally released on the remote label, set up by charles webster, and featured house music predominantly written by charles and neil tolliday, better known as nail. jorge felucca was the alias that neil used when creating the more dubbed out, techy tracks for the label. sounding somewhat like a deep house take on maurizio, pussy clap was also released in 98, but had since fallen into obscurity, and the time had come for it to be rejuvenated and polished with an amazing remaster by pole for the modern ear that is a dramatic improvement on the original

the legendary tony rohr graces phobiq with his presence and offers two tracks alongside his new partner-in-crime layton giordani. the ep starts out with the sparse arrangement of -careless suggestions-, driven by a locomotive bassline and grinding rhythm section. moody stabs reinforce the bleak vibe, and the vocals coming at us from otherworldly black holes only add to the mood. label boss sasha carassi steps up for the remix in his trademarked stomping style, making use of hypnotic elements and the busy claps from the original. industrial-sounding hi-hat action drives his interpretation all the way home, after an apocalyptic breakdown, of course. on -reggae shiz- things are more stripped-down with bare drums holding everything together, as the rest of the arsenal slowly builds around menacing chords and a rocksteady groove. behind the spotlight, liquid bass comes together with quirky percussion to complete this almost-10-minute-long opus. dema maintains a sublime, shadowy mood in his version but opts for busier hats and heavier usage of chords.

san francisco electronic/techno pioneer kit clayton as the first in a series of new electronica releases under the banner microsolutions for mega problems. kit clayton has been releasing music on labels such as mille plateaux, seventh city, plug research for the last few years as well as his own orthlorng musork label. he is the producer of the current left-field hip-hop faves gold chains which is also released on his label in the us. kit clayton is at the front of a movement of lap-top electronic artists such as herbert, bola, sutekh, pole etc. these two tracks are firmly in the electronic dance field and have been specially recorded for soul jazz records.
