2017 repress !! mcde recordings is happy to add a fresh new talent from down under to the label, harvey sutherland, who has been releasing some amazing records in the last two years. danilo has been supporting him since his very first release, and we are proud to put out some of his trademark cosmic boogie biz on this double sider for mcde. a one-time session player and behind-the-scenes man, analog synthesist harvey sutherland emerged from melbournes bubbling underground with a cassette tape in hand. 2013s nexus ep on this thing records - a trip through lo-fi boogie and roland house music - was a cult hit amongst dancefloor aficionados, priming listeners for a lauded ep on echovolt records and the best-selling * brothers* on voyage recordings. his music has been played and appreciated worldwide, with enthusiastic support from prominent tastemakers and weekend warriors alike.

ltd epress , expectations is an extended player from minimalist disco outfit harvey sutherland and bermuda. the second release for sutherlands own clarity recordings brings his bermuda project into sharp focus - six tracks spanning harveys influences from the west coast to west end records. recorded with bandmates graeme pogson (drums) and tamil rogeon (electric strings), expectations follows last years stomping label debut single * priestess/bravado*. the ep includes a long-awaited studio version of live favourite * clarity*, uptempo burner * coast 2 coast* and a moment of spiritual introspection with * spiders*. the title track offers glimmers of the doobies and the dan – a sign of things to come from the melbourne producer and his unique trio.

harvey sutherland’s latest 12” marks the inaugural release for clarity recordings, an imprint established by sutherland for modern australian records. the first new music from the melbourne producer since last year’s cuts for mcde, the double a-side priestess / bravado features his live trio bermuda at full tilt, with an ensemble of hand clapping friends. self-described “lounge room disco burners”, the record summons the groove experiments of patrick adams, bill laswell and arthur russell, while retaining harvey’s soulful tones and club-ready arrangements. priestess evolves slowly, a nine-minute mind dance that ultimately reaches a celestial state. sutherland’s piano lines bounce off drummer graeme pogson’s unwavering four-on-the-floor, while one-man string section tamil rogeon travels skyward. live standout bravado is played with determined precision, locking into a tough backbeat that only breaks once sutherland’s warbling lead solo approaches its resonant peak.
