profumo is the first release in the new dont be afraid 10 inch series entitled dba dubs. this series is about teaming a london house dub with a techno-related dancefloor remix. the first release comes from claws for ? of modern soul recordings (and formerly dc recordings), with a remix from miamis gosub, who you will doubtless recognize from his releases on citinite, device and frustrated funk.

tom giles previous twelve on modern soul saw him flex his muscles as a producer of sample-based wonky disco. this latest release, however, shows him stepping up to the challenge of crafting heavy boogie gems from scratch – with not a sample to be seen. the 12 inch kicks off with colour theory, a memorable mid-tempo number where crisp snares cracking between a lithe synth-line and a funk-bass backbone, featuring alex farrell of the london afrobeat collective on guitar. its a boogie daisy-cutter, packed, primed and ready for dropping on discerning dancefloors.

gera taraman is a ukrainian producer and designer who elegantly combines ultramodern sound design with burning grooves. raised in a family of music teachers, he chose another musical path with the help of the autechre, eno and ricardo villalobos records which determined the direction of his tech house and techno experiments. his absolutely beautiful analog recordings have a jazzy touch, excellent development of ideas, never ending melodies and chord progressions etc. >claws sharp< and >purpur< were produced in the ukrainian part of the carpathian mountains - at the very heart of nature results in an unconventionalmusicality that we miss in dance music these days. as for remixes, we have chosen the brilliant bruno pronsato and fumiya tanaka to skillfully remix gera s production. as a result, this synergy brings you four diverse, intelligent, philharmonic and minimalistic tracks.
