nick anthony simoncino is synonymous with the revival of italian house music over the past five years or so, and so it feels right for him to be delivering this album to vibraphone. of course, simoncino has more than enough skills (and hardware) to make something truly special, and that s apparent from the opening strains of -mystic adventures- onwards. there s a sense of urgency and mystery woven into tracks like -righteous rule-, where haunting leads wobble over sizzling drum machines, and the overall mood is redolent of 80s soundtracks mixed with the uneasy side of chicago house music. maintaining a punchy finish throughout and constantly reaching for the spooky side of machine soul, simoncino has more than delivered for the legendary italian label.

12inch whitelabel, limited to 300 hand stamped and numbered copies, coverartwork by utramoodem. schockglatze is the distillate of a longstanding collaboration between artists working across the frontiers of several forms. with audio- visual performances, band projects and international exhibitions as part of their armoury, spõnk, nik nowak and moritz stumm have been causing a stir within the art and music worlds for years. spõnk has already cooperated with a range of acclaimed vocalists including warrior queen, sensational and christoph waltz. he forms the solid basis and is the sonic central nervous system (scns) for the studio productions of schockglatze. nik nowak, most notably through his sound tank or ôpanzerö (2011), has in recent years worked closely with musicians such as (the late) dj rashad and dj spinn, and sonic poly-math the bug. last but not least moritz stumm aka ultramoodem, who brings to schockglatze an inimitable rhythmicity and graphic dimension. as a graphic artist, vj and video director he created a singular technique of synergetic audio-visual effects redolent of a hyper-voodooism, the aesthetic of which has become a signature style of schockglatze. the warlord ep showcases their various influences and is only a taste of the sound from éheart of the mandelbulbÆ and includes a remix by hyperdubÆs ikonika

a sublime and quietly hypnotic work belied by steadfast conceptual rigour, grafts is the most ambitious and involving work yet from kara-lis coverdale, her first since 2015.
in three parts of cascading yet plaintive multi-instrumental gestures, grafts expands on the processing and self-temperement techniques explored on 2014’s a 480 into a more encompassing palette. uncompromisingly distinct while redolent of modal minimalism, 70s, new age, and folk music, grafts effectively blurs distinctions between traditional composition and more open, overlapping genres that hover in the half-light between acoustic and electronic refinement.

the efforts of label chief max_mand attic musics own fabrizio lapiana as so far proven to be a potent combination. sharing wax space for the last two releases on m_rec ldts discreet new 10 inch vinyl series, the pair have so far turned in a stirring duplet of some of the finest, fully-formed pieces of modern techno music. now, for the third installment, max_m steps aside to let a brand new outfit take the helm. the mysterious and so far unreleased overall severitynestles comfortably into the a-side with another swollen, undulating melodic arrangement, true to form of what we have seen from the series so far. then on the b-side, fabrizio lapiana offers more of his dark and groovy techno, toned in what has become a signature splash of vintage british-redolent electronica.

hailing from leipzig in germany is an artist whos music has been pricking up many ears across the global underground over the last few years. its hard to put a finger on what it is about kassem mosses productions that make repeated listening a must, but the intricacy, fresh arrangements and musical depth definitely play a part in attracting labels such as the highly respected techno imprint workshop, the legendary soma records and now nonplus are honoured to present his latest 12 inch. a) kassem mosse – >we speak to those< first up on the a-side we have >we speak to those< a 4/4 track of the highest quality that keeps you guessing from start to finish. the rugged and raw kick and bassline immediately set the foundations for the incoming awkward chord stabs whilst reversed beats lazily slur in and out over the main groove giving the track the unnerving feeling that its almost changing tempo. random sound effects and a non conforming arrangement make this track about as predictable as the english summer. one listen to this and youll immediately understand why this artist is getting love from some of the scenes biggest players at the moment. aa) kassem mosse – >hi res< phased drum machine breakbeat patterns and stutered percussion redolent of the early detroit techno uprising give this track an outstanding quality of being able to conjure up the same feelings of hope and optimism for electronic music that the aforementioned era managed to. thought provoking chord progressions take your mind on an excursion to the future and leave you gagging for an extended trip. think skyways, flying cars and towering metal buildings footed with dark abysmal underworlds and youll get the drift. they don t come much deeper than this one
