the next alien jams 12” is from rkss, entitled cutoff ep. these four tracks were recorded in 2014 within a period of two weeks, using a juno-60 and vermona retroverb lancet. perhaps their most dance-able release to date, cutoff interweaves aquarian dream-like electronics throughout soggy percussion and glistening chimes. propelling the listener forward, rkss churns through water-logged signals, while synths cut through in gusts of euphoria.

after the joyful mess caused by brandy on adventurous dancefloors, qoso goes deeperwith three subwoofer-friendly tracks mixing house, techno, and just enough sonic dirt. hard on the boulevard has proved its efficiency already on some of the sweatiest parisian dancefloors. solidely grounded on a a slightly saturating bassline, it gets its driving force from a melodic sample fighting to get out of its cutoff filters and will sneaky easily as a peaktime weapon in every dj bag. it is as simple a that, really.

>black beauty< is the second album from metope for his co-founded areal records label. much like its precursor, >kobol<, the album swoons between techno, minimal and house timbres and poignantly coloured melodies. nestled amidst eerie dance moments such as >no self-control<, >deep sheep< and >alive<, however, are these woozy, country-kissed ballads like >so cutoff< and the riff-lead >rough romance< that ply >black beauty< with blues and soul. married with metopes warped and wonky electronic vision – epitomised by the albums serene slo-mo conclusion, >blood river< – >black beauty< is a blissfully tender listen, whilst providing left-field djs with plenty of weird and wonderful floor fodder to play with. the album features guest appearances from areal artists sid lerock (aka pan/tone), undo and stiggsen as well as electro-blues guitarist and singer k_chico.

in january 2011 mark was invited by erik wiegand (aka errorsmith) to make some presets for his new software synthesizer which he was building for native instruments. after developing about 40 sounds*, mark decided to rework his ul8 project by extending the pattern generating systems used in its construction, which he then connected to the sounds produced in erik s synthesizer. the result is this double 12 single, featuring 9 tracks and a remix from mark s friend and colleague mat steel.

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

einen abwechslungsreichen soundtrack für die vielen facetten, die eine spaßige nacht oder auch ein spaßiger tag im club zu bieten haben, präsentieren die herren kottlet & zadak passend zur kalten jahreszeit. just wait entwickelt eine minimal gehaltene, düstere und mysteriöse spannung, die sich schließlich in einem stehenden subbass entlädt. dessen vom ohr nicht mehr wahrnehmbare anteile erzeugen eine wonnige resonanz an der bauchdecke, die sich mit öffnendem cutoff über den rücken bis hinauf an die schädeldecke ausbreitet. freundlich, hell und auf anregende weise dennoch einlullend kommt danach der titel sunday daher, der in zusammenarbeit mit soukie & windish entstanden ist. mollono.bass lässt das im original humorvoll angesprochene arbeiten am montag mit seinem remix in geradezu phantastische ferne rücken: dubbige echoeffekte und eine extra portion verträumte melodie erwecken den eindruck von fortgeschrittenen stunden. doch auch die schwitzige stoßzeit einer party kommt nicht zu kurz: mit pulsierendem basslauf, dichten percussions und einem deutlichen anflug von swing vor einer soundkulisse, die an einen exzentrischen trickfilm erinnert, erfüllt hut ab alle anforderungen für das, was man landläufig als kracher bezeichnet.
