privately pressed to lp in 1978 under the name j. jasmine and made especially for the ann arbor film festival, with artistic collaboration from the festival’s founder and once group artist, george manupelli, my new music is the debut album by jacqueline humbert and david rosenboom. featuring a cast of mills college personalities like david behrman and sam ashley on backup vocal duties, this song cycle is at every turn boundary-pushing and gender-busting, yet still hilarious, sweet, and genuine, all delivered in a post-genre, art-song, cabaret musical style that happens to boast some serious avant-garde chops, courtesy of rosenboom. if it weren’t so spot on, you’d swear it was a guilty pleasure. as j. jasmine writes, my new music is a collection of personal stories and private desires, exposed, articulated, performed and dedicated to the hope that one person’s fantasies can contribute to another person’s freedom. get lost in j. jasmine’s world for a little long while, and be free.

in 2016. i rented out a small piano studio in east london for nearly the whole year and set out to write an introspective, trendless, and mostly beatless album. inspired by albums from this mortal coil and scott walker, who also sought freedom to work outside of the expectations of their previous work, i limited the instrumentation to mostly an acoustic piano and effects, which left space to expose a lot of emotional vulnerabilities about myself and people close to me. writing lullabies about being a mother in a dystopian world, with pensive words about swimming against the current as a female artist, i felt free enough to tell untold truths that i’ve never felt comfortable talking about within music. free, liberated, empowered. naked.

the echt walle traxx sound like driving a rented car in the shadow of the tv-tower through bremen-walle, bringing back the empty crates of beer from last night’s outdoor rave, craving for champagne breakfast while being lovesick and exhausted, and it’s raining outside (slightly).

early in 2014, copenhagens kenneth bager asked electronic wizard and remix entrepreneur ruf dug if he would make an album for his acclaimed balearic imprint music for dreams. that summer, ruf dug headed off to spend three months on the island of guadeloupe in the french caribbean. seizing the opportunity to live out his own compass point fantasy, he put together a portable studio that would fit into a suitcase - two half-rack synthesizers, a couple of effects units, his laptop and a 4-track cassette recorder. he set up the studio in the spare bedroom in a rented villa and spent the next 12 weeks watching the sun set and making the album. all tracks were written and recorded in guadeloupe, with nev cottee beaming in vocals and guitar parts for a couple of the tracks direct from the heart of mancunia, hooking into the powerful and long-standing musical relationship between manchester and that most famous of sunset islands ibiza

the eraly years of a decade are good times for exploration, just like in 1993 when we (alex & sasa) first started working together. we rented a huge loft space on ave b & 2nd st. in the east village in manhattan. the winter was tough, we had 16 snow storms and due to a landlord who hated everybody, we had our heating turned off except for a few hours in the morning, sometimes not even that... the only way to stay warm was to wear hats, gloves and scarves the whole winter... but that was fine because nightlife was a lot of fun. there was a good club/party every night. right below where we lived was one of the best after hour clubs called >save the robots<. but one of my favourite parties was >sugar babes< which was at the cbgbs gallery space right next door to cbgbs, every monday night. the dj used to sample parts of the records he was mixing and then just play the loop of the sample and alongside was a drummer playing to it. it was really inspiring. so we wanted to go back to this idea of sound assembly and create a new series for us to work with called >skematics< its like a diagram or manual to help understand the interconnections between the odd parts we find and assemble, an imaginary manual for a new decade that has not been musically defined yet

the new bob sinclar single is yet another great collaboration... love you no more is a daring blend of je ne taime plus by manu chao and the voice of shabba mr. loverman ranks! manu chao accepted being sampled and shabba ranks came (on time for once!) to the studio that bob had rented at the end of 2008. suffice to say, two miracles had come together!
