following on from his 2012 autoreply debut the model steps up again with a precise, deadly-effective two tracker. as a producer he can never be pigeon-holed serving up his mysterious blends of deep, robotic, space- funk across labels like traum schallplatten, crosstown rebels and his own clone powered adult central imprint. night times the right time finds the romanian in fine-form laying down punchy drums with pulsating-bass, persistent chords and analog synth tension. flip the disc for wolf and you get a darker, dub-driven take over the same infectious, floor-shaking beats. long tracks, mastered to perfection and playable to the max - check it.

model 500s influence on music arguably looms larger today then ever before, with a fresh wave of fascination coming from a new generation of electronic musicians and fans alike, whos lust for the innovative, original sounds of the first wave of detroit techno knows no bounds. ofi has already received the remix treatment from two big guns of the r&s stable, space dimension controller and bullion, who both applied their unique touches to the original in the 2010 remix release, and now it is the turn of apollo - with five new mixes coming from sei a, shadowchild, synkro, indigo and colonel red respectively.

juan atkins returns to r&s on a model 500 solo mission. the last model 500 single enlisted the help of the live line up that includes detroit techno royalty mike banks and ur alumni mark taylor, but this latest release is just juan in the studio and back at his best. >control< is vintage model 500, the classic electro that atkins pretty much invented, with his treated vocals riding over the crisp rhythm programming, dark basslines and detroit synths. >the messenger< on the flip is a moodier affair, with the liquid synths almost running away with themselves over the rough beats. model 500 and r&s has proved to have been a classic combination over the years and this release is one to file next to the classics.

not many single releases can be labelled as events, especially not in the ever homogenised techno world, but the first single from model 500 in eleven years, and the first recorded by the new band line up is most definitely an event.
its only fitting that this single is released on r&s records, whose relationship with the man widely acknowledged as the originator of detroit techno goes back 17 years and who released the last model 500 album back in 1999.
