allow us to introduce creatures of habit. the brainchild of dj/producer brenden wesley, the boston outfit s membership boasts a wild band of guest players, with musical virtuosos and analogue gear whores alike. relentless jam sessions between wesley and close pals chas bronz & robbie roland yielded lustre , their debut offering on the esteemed solardisco label. an aural innuendo anchored by a hypnotic, low-slung bassline, the song deftly trades in warm, flirtatious instrumentation and studio wizardry. through his akult party, brenden s not only honed his chops as a dj, he s befriended a whole host of the new disco cognoscenti. amongst them are brooklyn s own nick chacona, who recently released his debut long player on moodmusic to much acclaim, and dfa darlings runaway, who have been reeled in for remix duties. both artists head straight into house territory with decidedly different results. chacona shoots for the stars with his cosmic take on the original, adding just the right amount of sleaze and putting in one of his finest reworks in recent memory. runaway deepen things out with aplomb, dusting off the rhodes to drive their quirky mix home. connecting the dots between boston and brooklyn discotheques, this ep marks quite the auspicious debut for creatures of habit.

eitr is the new brainchild of nachtzeit, the man behind ambient black metal project lustre. representing the first recording of this new adventure, hädanfärden takes us back to the time of the norse gods and the death of balder, masterminded by the ever devious loki. as the waves of mischievous, playful synth wash over our senses we are transported to asgard and any misgivings over the potential of an album without lyrics to tell a story are dispelled. are we now loki or merely observers in his game of trickery and cunning? limited edition of 300 copies on silver coloured vinyl.

graze minerals possess a superlative lustre, which is most notably seen in diamond. such frequencies are transparent or translucent in nature, and have a high refractive index. tones with a true adamantine lustre are uncommon, with examples being cerussite and zircon. mweapon minerals display luminous bass bands, which appear to move as the specimen is rotated. such frequencies are composed of parallel fibers, which reflect sound into a direction perpendicular to their orientation, thus forming narrow bands of light. the most famous examples are fm and subtractive, but the effect may also occur in other sound banding - such aquamarine, moonstone and tourmaline. scrap minerals consist of thin transparent co-planar sheets. light reflecting from these layers give them a lustre reminiscent of pearls. such minerals possess perfect cleavage, with examples including muscovite and moss opal.

valanx is the new project of arne weinberg. after deciding to stop releasing under his own name, the project is focusing on his new-found passion for electronic music beyond the techno productions he is best known for. this first album is the result of liberation and recovered inspiration in the studio, and the ability to express musical experimentation without boundaries. this is how arne weinberg sounds in 2012. valanx stands for edgy, dark, sinister and thoughtful electronic music without limiting rules such as club compatibility, crowdpleasing or certain expected structures, tempos or sounds that confine most of todays musical genres. everything is possible, expect the unexpected. 300 limited lp copies - no digital distribution.

miles whittaker has been an integral part of the modern love label since its inception in 2002 - as one half of both pendle coven and demdike stare, as well as his own productions under the mlz and millie monikers. after almost 15 years writing music, this is the first release miles is putting out under his own name and marks a turning point of sorts in his production style, or rather, in its sequencing. the facets ep brings together different ends of his production style, unifying elements of the house and techno he s most commonly released as mlz together with the more broken production signatures usually reserved for millie and the darkened tribalism of demdike stare. flawed opens the set with a linn loop from the archives, stretched and slowed down with an intoxicated aesthetic that s somewhere between house and dub, before lustre re-configures source material originally keyed in by labelmate andy stott with a nice line in squashed percussion. primer on the flip extends from a demdike stare outtake and veers off into an analogue drum machine workout, before on the fly ends the set with a recording made straight to mixing desk from an array of mis-wired and malfunctioning drum boxes, contact microphones and samplers, over at his studio the mill earlier this year.
