october and john osborn are proud to present the inaugural 12inch on their newly minted bristol and berlin based house & techno label: tanstaafl records. tanstaafl is an acronym for there aint no such thing as a free lunch. we kick things off with john osborns debut release, epoch 4 backed with a darker, reduced, dub-influenced version. john based in berlin worked with october in his bristol based studio to create and produce some wonderful, raw, dirty analogue house music. both tracks were meticulously produced by herr osborn and recorded and engineered by october. laurie appleblims joined the studio session and he dove straight into the juno 60 and played the melody that finnishes the track off. tough floor business for your feet and mind, tried and tested around the world. a great start for this promising label.

hotflush are proud to introduce an exciting young artist, pyur, along with her singular debut lp epoch sinus. despite her relative newness, pyur meets the world with fully formed and unique signatures in both visual and sonic work, revealing a deep artistry that transcends medium. growing up in munich, in and amongst the same fecund scene that spawned artists like the zenker brothers and skee mask, pyur cut her teeth from a young age as a guitarist and singer before becoming spellbound by the electronic world’s endless scope for sound design. endowed with innately strong synaesthesia and reared in a shamanic household, she tells how music “played the biggest role in my growth. it alone had the purpose to help me dissolve boundaries, discover the beauty of life’s mechanisms, create freely. it talked. soon i felt like the music was making me, not the other way round.” epoch sinus is a seamless and heartfelt whole, a life-like being unto itself, describing the disintegration of barriers between the self and the all. here pyur offers an intimate and personal statement, combining knowledge of universal harmony with electronic music. she states: “i m mainly influenced by my inner visions and nature itself, yet also a lot from club culture, which is undoubtedly an important space of connection and freedom for so many people”. the record dances playfully between supposedly incompatible qualities: moments of brutality turn to softness, new life embraces decomposition, while explosive rhythmic and melodic structures are tempered with gentle and subtle percussion.

hailing from perth, australia, this talented and prolific producer is no stranger to the music scene. following his first taste of an akai sampler to drop film samples on the intros of songs in his metal band, the dirty whittler, rregula eventually found himself drawn into the world of drum and bass and formed one half of bad robot in 2003, a monster collaboration with future technique and viper superstar, phetsta.with a number of releases on subsonik sound, black sun empire, and drumsound & bassline smiths popular technique recordings as bad robot, followed by solo projects on vampire records, dsci4, citrus recordings, icarus audio, climate recordings, and too many others to name, rregula has been scaling new heights with his output in the past year. having just released an album project in 2011 on trust in music entitled echoes from the future with dementia and collaborations from the likes of smooth, trei and optiv, one might think of calling it a year.. rregula is not one of those people.now set to unleash his highly anticipated debut lp on climate recordings, rregula presents:the barramundi experiment. an album extraordinaire, with over 30 tunes of deep and dirty rolling drum and bass, halftime and drumstep.
