two miscreants of uk electronics have been drafted in by shipwrec for a 12- of techno debauchery. richard bevan and joshu doherty, aka posthuman, have been addicted to acid from their first contact with the caustic and cruel chords of the tb303. since then the two cousins have gone on to curate 10 years of i love acid as well as doling out some toxic classics of their own. the duo deliver the soured goods once again, starting the audio anarchy with the ominously titled -netflix and kill-. drum patterns are gnarled and nasty in this slow burning jacker where basslines boil over into a thick syrup of late night revelry. the flip is taken over by the bullying sounds of -the damocles syndicate.- the track rumbles with venomous menace. coils of 303 spite bulge and contract under the strict resolve of a stern beat in this ready made floor filler. two helpings from two malevolent masters of the silver box.

part of the current crop of artists spearheading the uk acid revival, posthuman s output has evolved over the years, encompassing many genres & styles from their early electronica releases, to their later acid & slow-mo techno. their debut release in 2000 was a series of hand made cds simply called -posthuman- (though better known by the colour of the card inserts grey, black, blue and brown). the duo then went on to host a number of parties in an abandoned underground train station in london between 2001 and 2004, and founded their own label seed records (2) with which they released 3 albums and several other releases of their own and other artists material. they also were the first act on manchester based imprint skam s smak sublabel. doherty left seed records to help relaunch uk techno imprint b12 records in 2006, and started a new label balkan vinyl in 2010. in 2007, doherty founded london-based acid house retrospective clubnight i love acid- where posthuman are monthly resident djs. in 2014 the clubnight launched a vinyl-only label of the same name. he also performs as agt rave cru and as one half of altern 8 live shows since 2015.

indonesian concern midnight runners know a thing about quirky, utterly funky boogie and disco variations played out with real world heart and soul. this third album rare essence is the most complete look into the world of bandleader munir septiandry to date, not least when reveling in the heavyweight groove of -pyramids of the moon-. there s a lighter disco touch to -paraswara harmoni-, but equally a cosmic force guides the track skywards in a manner that calls to mind the sweetest 70s library music. -cyber crimes- is a sassier affair that makes its club intentions clearer, but at every turn midnight runners display a keen proficiency for party music that you can equally chill to

rsi is a new label affiliated to the tusk wax empire, and for their first release they look to the unexpected choice of the posthuman duo of rich bevan and josh doherty. hecatism sees the pair wander into deeper corners than their music is usually known for, trading electro breakbeats for a mid tempo production filled with resonant textures and vocal chunks that could nominally be described as house, while helioshock sees them break out the 303 for some heady acid grooves. the remixes of the title track come expertly chosen also, with disco bloodbath resident damon martin taking the track even deeper into something approaching balearic groove, and pork intl, who adds a distinctly more interstellar flavour to the original with its danny wolfers-style analogue house chords.
