juan macleans happy house gets the remix treatment by lazaro casanova and paul woolford. lazaro casanova, former resident dj at revolver parties for many years, gives an afro-cuban flair to a thick techno style. paul woolfords apocalypse version is a quirky, noisome sizzler.
FIRE EYES
12 Inch
10.09.09
australias canyons (who you might recognize from their excellent releases on modular, hole in the sky, etc.) are featured for their debut release on the esteemed nyc label. fire eyes takes the a side with its deep disco house rhythms topped off with growling diva vocals, acid synths and all kinds off jungle sounds and percussion. they re definitely taking it there and it sounds huge. dancing on silk is on the flip with more female vocals, this time a lot more playful and sexy, over a warping disco beat complete with dubbed out horn solos and arpeggios. also includes the jaques renault living in the jungle mix of fire eyes that strips down the original while adding tight key stabs and dubby vox for more of a straight forward house groove
SEE MYSTERY LIGHTS (LP)
12 Inch LP
10.09.09
nice price deal !!! the songs on yachts debut album see mystery lights from the bouncy, burbling you cant take it with you screed the afterlife (which plays like a less spastic companion piece to the mae shis run to your grave) to the roller rink ready vocoder vocals of im in love with a ripper represent yacht at their most poppy. its a collection of stone jams that finds the band finally as hellbent on experimenting and expanding the boundaries of its sonic scope as it is on having fun. built on electronic foundations laser effects, skittering computerized beats, and spacey synth lines (or guitar riffs that have been tuned or distorted to sound like synths) these new songs are giddy with creative freedom while remaining tethered in service of their melodies. the vocal melodies are bright and buoyant, but delivered (by either band member, or in unison) in a chanted, oftentimes detached monotone that plays up the repetitive lyrics mantra like feel and adds a welcome undercurrent of slacker cool to their otherwise sugary optimism.
SIMPLE THINGS / TODD TERJE
12 Inch
29.07.09
simple things is very much within the spirit of fellow dfa stars hercules & love affair and their hybrid of pop and retro piano house, and the main mix of the track is a right old romp. todd terje is on hand to bring a taste of flamboyant nordic disco to the proceedings.
DOMINATION
12 Inch
01.07.09
the second of three 12inch samplers from the gavin russoms latest cd. this features extended versions of the album tracks domination and anthem. inspired by equal parts euro disco, wonky early electronic body music... and a fascination with the outer reaches of global psychedelic rock.
ILL KEEP ON LOVING YOU
12 Inch
10.06.09
ill keep on loving you lays down a commanding piece of old fashioned electro-disco, particularly notable for its blurry, washed out vocals and stately downtempo synth-funk. next, >living without your lov< weighs in with a bassline that halfway between >another one bites the dust< and daft punks >around the world< before sublime synths, twangin guitar and vocal edits pile into the mix to round off a delightful piece of grade-a rose-tinted disco.

ONE DAY RMXS (LIMITED PROMOS)
12 Inch
23.04.09
upfront white label copies of this huge new single from juan maclean - a full month ahead of general release! first come first served on these folks as we re likely to be very oversold on it! remix pressure from the mighty emperor machine & surkin, plus a super stripped down house interpretation from systematic head honcho marc romboy.
GOBLIN CITY/ HOLY GHOST RMX
12 Inch
22.10.08
panthers used to play aggressive post hardcore before their style morphed into a somewhat sober version of anthemic stoner rock. they released albums on both troubleman and vice records. goblin city is the lead track from their second record, the trick. holy ghost! requested to work on goblin city. they then delivered one of the most relentlessly snappy disco dubs in quite some time. panthers also asked run roc to do a mix of the song and he came up with an excellent old school acid house version. this single is a true dfa family affair, bringing together good friends, musicians, and creative allies from the past and for the future. family reunions are not supposed to be this much fun.
UNDERWATER
12 Inch
22.10.08
underwater is a true breakthrough a song so undeniably laid back and catchy, the duo came up with the term cosmic sea shanty to sum it up. with its undeniable madchester/beta band delivery, dfa decided it was more of an e shanty, especially the dub on the flipside, which blends warm keys, euphoric piano, and a killer bass line. underwater is more unique magic from the tiny sticks men and a new page in their still evolving career.
THE SIMPLE LIFE ( MARCUS WORGULL RMX )
12 Inch
09.10.08
as juan maclean and dfa finalize plans for the imminent release of his next album, the future will come, and happy house continues to grow in summer anthem status, the label offers another taste of the forthcoming fulllength to old fashioned disc jockeys and rabid fans alike. like happy house, the simple life is a marathon dancefloor filler, and another collaboration between maclean and nancy whang. the flip features a lush and beautiful remix by innervisions/sonar kollektiv secret ontanari remix
