ellen allien s work lism is already being referred to as a milestone in the label s history: rarely has an album from the circle of bpc artists deviated so far from the club context as lism. the label boss has radically disposed of all established musical templates and created space for 45 minutes of sonic experiments that lie well beyond any functional paradigm – a highly emotional soundtrack for one s -inner cinema-, but also a creative process with a considerable fun factor.

seit dem letzten jahr gehören joy adegoke und wim janssens als joy wellboy zur bpitch control-familie. neben ihrem beitrag für die where the wind blows-compilation gehörte auch ihr debütalbum yorokobis mantra zu den highlights des pbc-jahres 2013. nach ihrer single mickey remedy kommt nun ihr lp-opener before the sunrise in vier unterschiedlichen versionen. diese stammen von bpc-urgestein kiki, innervisions-mitbegründer dixon und matthew patterson curry alias safety scissors plus radio edit (early bird version)!

bpc-urgestein kiki hat für seine vinyl > spending time together< keinem geringeren als hercules and love affair-sänger shaun j. wright das mikrofon in die hand gegeben. die beiden scheinen wie füreinander geschaffen - shauns soulig-relaxte vocals legen sich wie ein dunkles seidentuch um kikis schlanke, druckvoll produzierte beats. dunkelheit ist dann auch das stichwort für die beiden, mit through darkness bright dub und dark dub benannten titel der 12 inch vinyl.

die venezolanische künstlerin aérea negrot ist ein performance-phänomen, was sie als mitglied von hercules & love affair und auch als solo-künstlerin eindrucksvoll unter beweis stellen konnte. nun veröffentlicht sie mit macuto zwei neue stücke(macuto,planta baja), sowie remixes von so verschiedenen künstlern wie wareika (hamburg/berlin) und dem bpc-zugang system of survival (aus italien).

die zeit scheint reif für bemerkenswerte kollaborationen: ganz im sinne der these, dass das ergebnis mehr ist als die summe ihrer teile, produzieren die beiden bpc-urgesteine kiki und chaim ihre 12inch love kills! unter gemeinsamer flagge. wirklich fremd waren sich die beiden jedoch nie: ihre gegenseitigen remixe – kikis großartige version von chaims album-titeltrack alive von 2011 und chaims 2009er knaller von kikis good voodoo machen lust auf mehr und legen die messlatte erneut ein stück höher!

bpc-lady ellen allien öffnet die türen zum allien dance. dark electro meets house! die aktuelle 12 inch >galactic horse< wurde von ihren labelkollegen skinnerbox co-produziert - expect the unexpected, möchte man sagen - und trifft damit genau ins schwarze: >take me out< knallt dem hörer einen knochentrockenen, knackig-rohen oldschool-electrofunk-beat um die ohren, der in den folgenden siebeneinhalb minuten portionsweise mit eingängigen streicher-hooks und athmos versüßt wird. unwiderstehlich!

die neue telefon tel aviv ep featured den berauschend schönen album-opener the birds in seiner originalversion und in zwei remixen, wie sie gegensätzlicher nicht sein können: bpc-chefin ellen allien pustet die schwermütigen nebelwolken des originals kurzentschlossen mit einem knackigen housebeat und munteren acid-sequenzen fort. ghostly international-mitbegründer matthew dear hat schon auf seinem eigenen album black city und seinen remixen für die chemical brothers, the xx und the drums eine ausgeprägte vorliebe für sinistre klanglandschaften offenbart. seine version von the birds bewegt sich stilistisch zwischen allen stühlen, verbindet sie doch kongenial singer/songwriter-elemente mit einem athmosphärisch dichten electronica-kontext. als co-autor, gitarrist und seelenverwandter tritt kein geringerer als cocteau twins-mitbegründer robin guthrie in erscheinung - nicht nur für düstere wintertage und kalte nächte der perfekte soundtrack.

seit seiner ersten veröffentlichung auf bpc vor drei jahren pflegt thomas einen unverwechselbaren sound, dessen eigenwillige und detailverliebte soundgestaltung den eindruck stetiger bewegung bei gleichzeitigem stillstand vermittelt. die daraus resultierende spannung erweckt eine ebenso unwiderstehliche wie eigenartig anmutende, maschinenhafte lebendigkeit. während thomas sein klangliches markenzeichen auf vergangenen eps und remixen - u.a. für telefon tel aviv und cormac - perfektioniert und etabliert hat, stösst er nun mit jedem track seiner aktuellen ep >neurones< neue türen auf.

few artists can lay claim to such a continuous output as bpc resident joakim ijäs, better known as kiki. for kiki, continuity also means permanently developing his musical vision - his superb second album kaiku is testament to this. the current 12 inch >cinema obscura< follows on seamlessly from us house traditions, yet also reduces them to absurdity with its atmospheric density and sonic extravagance.

the waiting is finally over! after all the ups and downs of the past year, we can happily report that joshua eustis now firmly intends to continue telefon tel aviv as a solo project. in order to mark his decision with a bang, thewonderful title track >immolate yourself< is being released as the second single from the current lp. the song has been entrusted to highly acclaimed and diverse remix artists who have skilfully stripped down the epic album track to more club-friendly formats.
the a side is delivered by label-mate thomas muller, whose finely detailed techno soundscapes can now be enjoyed on five bpc 12 inch releases. his >immolate< remix takes a much more direct approach. he reduces the lush arrangement of the original to a powerful basic framework, leaves out the vocals almost entirely, and creates a surprise when the track crumbles into sonic chaos towards the end.
miss fitz aka maayan nidam has had singles released on labels including raum musik and freak n chic, and these have been remixed by renowned artists such as ricardo villalobos. her version of >immolate< also makes a clear break from the album track and serves up her very own brand of abstract, dancefloor-friendly house. once again, all the opulence of the original is thrown overboard, a dry beat is placed at the centre of the arrangement and enriched with sinuous vocals.
ben klock needs no further introduction - he is the epitome of the bleak, hard minimal sound. his album >one< is currently available on ostgut ton, and as a remixer he has earned the highest acclaim for his version of depeche modes >peace<. bens >jack mix< is fittingly titled and lives up to all the expectations of the name. the track is stripped back to a resounding, hammer-like beat framework - minimised for maximum effect.
bpitch legend sascha funke delivers a surprise with another astoundingly reduced remix, at least by his standards. he turns away from the melodic richness of his current album >mango< in favour of repetitive fragments and an extended arc of tension which will surely make his >immolate< remix a massive after-hour hit.
