time to welcome another newcomer to freerange with a brilliant debut that has already been gaining a lot of interest from early spins. stefano ritteri should be a familiar name to many, having dropped several well-received releases on key labels such as pets, rockets & ponies and get physical as well as his own monthly rinse france radio show. a producer in the old school sense, he has the ability and desire to flip from deep, emotive and down tempo jams to the most impactful, high energy floor fillers, all with a deft touch and unique and experimental spin. the italian producer, now relocated to london, has a studio chock full of vintage synths and hardware outboard which keep him inspired and ensure his output sounds fresher and fatter than most, as can be heard on this excellent two-tracker entitled a different happiness ep.

we hit you with the second single from jimpsters acclaimedsilent stars lp loaded with the good stuff! the album has received much love from djs and critics alike and its clear that after 25 years in the business jamie odell retains his reputation as one of the most talented and consistent electronic artists in the uk. as a&r and dj he also boasts a fine ear for emerging talent and here he hands over the reigns to two hotly tipped producers to rework his originals. first up we have the incredible peggy gou who takes on the sun comes up ft. jinadu.her speedy rise through the ranks over the past 12 months has been down to just a handful of brilliant eps on rekids and phonica and her skills as a club dj. the berlin based korean sits somewhere between detroit, london and berlin in sound and her dj sets are an assured, kinetic combination of dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract compositions. her influences shine through on her remix which goes deep and musical whilst retaining an energetic drive for the dancefloor. perhaps the most mesmerizing, floor-focused track from the lp is up next, silent stars. an electronic tribal dance which builds to a speaker-wobbling sub-bass breakdown and wonderful chord section at the climax. next, a remix from west coast native urulu who came to jimpsters attention through his releases on lets play house, dirt crew and his own amadeus label. trying to describe his remix of where you areft. khalil anthony is no easy task, fusing elements of techno, broken beat and afro house, but check it out and if you can think of a suitable new sub genre to pigeonhole it with, let us know. closing the release we have the slow-burning, balearic-tinged beauty known as the sun comes up featuring jinadu on vocals. this is one to drop in the warm after-glow of a crazy night under the stars when tired legs and happy hearts crave a soulful groove to give them one last lift.

for our 225th release on freerange we welcome an exciting new austrian producer who goes by the name demuja. his mary janes theory record caused something of a stir when it came out at the start of the year on his fledgling vinyl-only label muja. having now clocked up over 300k plays on youtube and reportedly being offered for silly money on discogs it’s clear to see there’s a buzz on this guy, and when you check his music you’ll hear why. taking his inspiration from classic deep house but with a rough and raw approach, demuja can sit proudly alongside the likes of ross from friends, mall grab or rimbaudian riding the new wave of fresh, contemporary house. on his freerange debut, the move ep offers up four original tracks, eachwith their own distinct flavour. opening the release we have title track move spring into action with simple rhodes chords floating across a crisp, driving up-tempo groove showing off the deeper side to demuja. next up b.o.o.m offers us a simple yet captivating, dancefloor-focused affair with a lone, repeating piano stab hooking us into the action. flipping over we have into my brain which brings some acid-tinged italo vibes and a jacking beat to proceedings whilst the closing track turn me on cuts up a much- loved paradise garage classic for a warm, soul-infused slice of classic, bumpy house music

freerange welcomes italian via berlin producer/dj/label boss enzo elia for his debut on the label entitled the lost guitar tapes. enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints.

adam port and jimpster have had a special kind of ‘virtual’ relationship the last few years with a mutual respect for each others productions and output of their respective labels. keinemusik, which adam runs alongside rampa, &me and reznik, has grown into one of the most consistent and hottest out there right now with every release creating a big splash and bringing magic to so many dancefloors around the world. adam recently remixed jimpster’s eel pie island to devastating effect bringing his own deep, late night atmospherics to the original and creating one of 2016’s underground hits in the process. so now we’re very pleased to welcome adam port (alongside legendary uk artists stereo mc’s) for a full release on freerange in the form of changes. opening the release we have adam’s own remix which sets the tone with a subtle and gently building groove providing the perfect backdrop for the stereo mc’s esoteric vocal. this lesson in restraint shows why adam’s productions work so well on big systems, letting all the focus shine firmly on the vocal creating an intense atmosphere with not a single huge breakdown in sight! next up we have the original of changes which takes a more electro approach with a simple bassline and crisp hats and once again allowing the vocal space to take centre stage for a deep and memorable track with a message. finally we have a remix from our own jimpster opts to push in a completely different direction. shuffling up the groove and laying down a repeating rhodes riff we’re treated to an altogether more soulful and less stark version making the perfect compliment to the the package. this one makes us think of his remix of osunlade’s momma’s groove which is no bad thing we feel! enjoy!

dam swindle return to freerange with an exclusive track following the incredibly well received figure of speech and unfinished business releases. their label heist continues to hog the top spots on the leading download sites and their releases on freerange have been amongst the labels biggest sellers. recent dam swindle remixes of romanthony, hercules & love affair and seven davis jr have helped confirm the dutch duo as one of the most exciting and hyped deep house acts to emerge from amsterdam in recent years. tijuana based artist soul of hex aka sébastien vorhaus already boasts material on the likes of mcde, quintessentials and his own vicario ltd. the new project has already seen huge support from larry heard (including 2 remixes from the man himself on his release lip reading), and is fast becoming an in-demand multi-instrumentalist live and visual show.

having been on something of a hiatus following the birth of his kids, milton jackson is back and in best form ever on songs without words. his most recent releases have been on uk label tsuba and is responsible for remixes for recloose on planet e, al kent, and m a n i k. kito jempere debuted on freerange in 2013 but quickly got soon after got snapped up for ep s on dirt crew, let s play house and most recently room with a view. he also owns and manegs the fata morgana label from his base in saint petersburg. pittsburgh track authority are the genre bending trio releasing some of the finest house and techno from the east coast of the us on their own label in the machine age as well as esteemed imprints such as azuri, argot and finale sessions. kuniyuki is something of a japanese enigma, staying resolutely below the radar despite being heralded by many (including derrick may) as a major inspiration. the multi-instrumentalist has collaborated with henrik schwarz, vakula, dj nature and jimpster and has released on mule and sound of speed and remixed dj sprinkles, joe clausell and ananda project.

andre lodemann is a highly regarded producer from berlin whose debut release dropped in 2004 on mike grant s legendary moods & grooves label. last year saw andre lodemann release his innervisions debut leaving the comfort zone ep. he has remixed for labels such as innervisions, buzzin fly, poker flat and rebirth. squares is a brand new side-project from fish go deep, focusing on completely hardware-based productions and slightly more experimental, left field deep house. tony lionni continues to impress following his osgut ton smash found a place (which continues to drive dance floors into a frenzy worldwide) with releases on versatile, mule, wave and madhouse.

ra s number 1 voted live act of 2015 kink provides time out of his ridiculously busy tour schedule to provide the opening track roads. kinks remix of moderat is just about to drop on monkeytown as well as his valentine s groove 12inch for clone royal oak. kink has had huge releases on labels such as rush hour, running back (last year s cloud generator ep) and has remixed the likes of sven vath, herbert, nina kraviz and deetron.

clavis is the new collaborative project of manuel tur and adrian hoffmann (of paskal and urban absolutes). their debut banza ep on freerange last year won many fans and received countless plays from the likes of dixon, ame, tim sweeny and damian lazarus. this brilliant follow up has already received glowing praise from deetron, h.o.s.h, anja schneider and laurent garnier.

introducing red d, the belgian dj and producer, one half of fcl (alongside san soda), long standing club promoter (since 1992), owner of we play house and general all round good guy. with releases on ferrispark and delusions of grandeur (with mcde), remixes on eskimo, regular sets at the likes of panorama bar and an ra mix under his belt you could say things are falling into place nicely. on top of all this his fcl project continues to go from strength to strength with a new ep dropping soon on kai kzr alces highly regarded ndatl label.

the enigmatic hyenah steps into the spotlight once again for its third freerange release, following hot on the heels of their objektivity debut which is still causing major waves worldwide. with a distinctive sound which melds afro-influenced rhythms with european deep and minimal house sensibilities, hyenah has won many fans from across the dance spectrum and can be tracked down to a certain well known club in berlin which hosts its regular party known as rise. the idea unleashes a powerful blast of percussion-heavy beats which form the perfect foundation for sas lazarusman to lay down his distinctive spoken-word vocal. the track builds steadily, the intensity increasing throughout as extra stabs and layers of strings soar above the pulsing synths and throbbing sub bass.

seems like somethings going on across the pond at the moment with seemingly blossoming, or at least rejuvenated scenes in the united states and canada. our last handful of releases on freerange have included artists from montreal, tujuana, pittsburgh and chicago and were about to add los angeles to the list with this new one from justin jay and ulf bonde. the young producers have been steadily building steam with a number of fine releases the last couple of years and we welcome them to freerange for their debut ep entitled indecision. the title track sets the mood with a low-slung, super-deep house groove complete with an intimate vocal and a charming simplicity which contributes to the powerful end result. elements come into focus then disappear in a fog of reverb whilst playful guitar picks add a live jammed feel to the loping groove giving things a bob moses/francis harris kind of vibe

the black 80s make a long overdue return to freerange following their 2014 release move on (from which the kollektiv turmstrasse remix become something of an underground anthem). the duo hailing from montreal and consisting of hollis p monroe and overnite have been responsible for some seriously influential tracks over the years, not least hollis bonafide classic from 1997 - im lonely.

time to welcome chrissy, a chicagoan dj, producer, edit-maker, blogger, sometime dance music historian and documenter and general hard-working mother f..ker (according to stool pigeon). the smart bar resident has had a string of top drawer releases on house labels such as classic, tugboat edits, razor n tape and hypercolour, not to mention his own brilliant nite owl diner label which he runs with alex burkat. chuck in releases for planet mu and running the juke/footwork label loose squares and you start to get the picture. this guy is a genre-bender extraordinaire and clearly a tireless and highly creative individual so were very proud to have him join us hear for his freerange debut

its a very exciting time for soul of hex right now. not only have they hit upon a rich vein of creative inspiration and clearly loving every second of being in the studio making some brilliant music, but the young duo from tijuana also seem to be inadvertently, or maybe purposefully, shaping a fresh new direction for the mexican house scene. taking influences from detroit via berlin, and with a knowledge of house, jazz, funk, soul and disco which goes way beyond their years sebastien vorhaus and 4004 are in the vanguard of this new generation of house producers and are already making their mark worldwide through releases on cvmr, mcde, faces and their own vicario ltd imprint.

pittsburgh track authority have been making waves the last couple of years following brilliant releases on some of the best underground house labels around such as uzuri, argot, finale sessions as well as their own pittsburgh tracks imprint. last year saw their debut lp enter the machine age gain them further fans and we invited them to remix nils penners i can be for which they delivered an absolute beast. the pittsburgh based collective are as comfortable making disco-influenced grooves as they are funk infused techno so when they offered us your situation with a view to doing an ep we jumped at the chance.

jimpster is back with his first full ep since porchlight and rocking chairs! with only a smattering of remixes for the likes of paxton fettel, dam swindle, till von sein, cajuu and s-man and original track head spin for the 200th freerange double pack its been a fairly quiet time studio-wise the last couple of years. all that is about to change however with 2015 shaping up to be full of new music in various shapes and forms and under different guises.

eddy & dus are long standing and highly respected croatian dj and production duo eddy ramich and zvonimir dusper. theyve been responsible for many classic remixes on labels such as compost, especial and schema but after a long hiatus were happy to say the boys are back, on their best form yet and now we can present to you the mighty a from b.

the swindlers return and not a minute too soon as far as were concerned! the hardest working duo in house music have had a mental couple of years playing every club and festival known to man, having babies, seemingly buying up the entire stock of vintage studio gear off ebay and thankfully knocking out some banging tunes on top of all that. well all club bangers gratefully received here at freerange so with open arms and ears were happy to be bringing you the figure of speech ep.

we are pleased as punch to welcome guillaume & the coutu dumonts for his freerange debut with the revolution in the cycles ep. the plucky canadian via berlin producer will be well known to most of you through his releases on labels such as circus company, oslo and raum musik or maybe you witnessed the master at work crafting one of his amazing live sets. either way, you’ll know how he likes it, mixing up his deep understanding of rhythm from his years spent playing drums with the unquestioned groove of house and hypnotic beauty of techno. the result is a unique, slightly wonky brand of off kilter house which is perfectly summed up here on this three track ep.

limited edition, hand stamped inclduing a unique print. time to welcome kresy to the label with three original tracks of immaculate left of centre house. with only a clutch of releases his name may be new to many but if you dig deeper youll find hes definitely moving the right circles. his debut release on john talabot’s hivern discs gave some broad exposure, picking up spins from the likes of four tets keiren hebden, jenifer cardini and nick hoppner. remix requests followed too with releases on exquisite pain, southern fried and lovemonk all getting the kresy treatment.

philadelphia native hollis p monroe is a man who has been slowly and steadily building a respectable catalogue of music since his debut on canadian label stickman in 1997. appearances on josh winks ovum and the legendary west end label have all helped establish hollis as a talented writer, producer, vocalist and dj having recently been drafted in for collaborations with the likes of kink, trickski and rampa. here we find him producing under his new moniker the black 80s in collaboration with frank julien, and following hot on the heels of a killer release for compost black label.

finally we close the ep with woman, a track thats probably about as close as the ds boys get to a smooching torch song. lush pads and strings bring a deeper vibe to proceedings but the female spoken word samples keep the energy high and ensure things never stray too far from the floor.

kito jempere will be a new name to many with only a handful of productions and remixes under his belt but that’s the way we like to do it here and were proud to play a small part in helping introduce his production prowess to a wider audience. the st. petersburg native came to our attention following an invite for jimpster to play at one of his legendary outdoor summer parties in his home town. a friendship was born and when the brilliant demos arrived in the mail, it wasnt a hard decision to agree to release them

time for one of freeranges longest standing regular producers to return to the label for his first ep in three years. the stepping tones ep is absolutely classic shur-i-kan from start to finish with two original tracks plus a remix from the very excellent berlin newcomers kim brown.

one of the uks most established and consistent deep house producers, jimpster, is due to drop his eagerly anticipated porchlight and rockingchairs lp. his first studio album in six years sees him continue where he left off on the 2006 masterpiece amour by taking the blueprint of house music and infusing it with an attention to detail and musicality often lacking in much of todays more disposable dance music. during the interim period, jamie has maintained a key role in two of the uks most successful house labels, freerange and delusions of grandeur, where he continues to pick up and establish new talent at an impressive rate. over the course of his 23 year career so far he has remixed everyone from josh wink, osunlade and solomun through to bob marley, airto moreira and seal, as well as continuing to dj week-in week-out at many of the worlds best clubs and festivals.
