jona is back with manta: a sick, expertly crafted new e.p. for get physical music. 24-year-old belgian jonathan troupin s true arrival on the house and techno block his debut 12- for get physical, the learnings. since then, he s chalked up another acclaimed e.p. for physical, tizia, not to mention assorted releases for labels like fumakilla and resopal red, and high profile remixes for michal ho, soffy o, daso and labelmates booka shade and m.a.n.d.y. jona doesn t mess about: title track manta immediately establishes itself as a no-holds-barred, peaktime club weapon, with a hard, pure-of-purpose kickdrum taking centre stage while kinetic drum edits and pressurized fx patter in, out and around it. a dizzying synth motif adds to an already mind-bending brew, while each successive build and drop ravishes the listener into submission. this is music to immerse yourself in, for sure, but above all it s music to really, really dance to. at this point you might expect the pace to let up, but b-side amon is a similarly hectic, energetic cut. all rolling bassline, acidic synth cycles, crisp percussion, jump-up vocal samples and surging narcotic effects, amon is a blast of magnificently controlled chaos for the party s more intense moments. the 12- draws to a close with exoplanet dub a no less formidable but certainly more spacious club track. its addictive, zig-zagging melodies reminding us of the more playful side to jona s music. with manta, jona furnishes us with three vehement yet elegant tracks guaranteed to turn a dancefloor near you inside out

following their celebrated >meat is murder< ep, meat, aka carsten schuchmann, teams up with get physical regular einzelkind, arno völker and migual ayala, for >words from the frontline<. the ep opens with its title-track, words from the frontline. indeed, the word >frontline< is appropriate - the firm kickdrum sets the tone and pace before a hi-hat tattoo reminiscent of a military march asserts itself. rushing synth effects edge in from the sides before the track expands to accomodate a bending, feintly jazzy keyboard motif. this is quickly absorbed into the tracks fierce, linear 4x4 progression, and the addition of crisp snap-claps make this a winning modern take on 2nd wave detroit-style techno.

get physical are pleased to welcome paul ritch, following the well-received >fortuna ep< (together with anthony collins) with his first solo-tracks. over the past year ritch has earned his stripes with solo releases on resopal schallware, minisketch and paradigma, and as one half of handycraft, whose le bal masque ep on kickboxer was a recent underground hit. ritch saves his best for physical, though, with two minimal house tracks of real energy and sophistication comprising this new 12inch. a master of slowburning intensity, ritchs begins >june< in understated fashion, but build after build, and the onset of busy, chattering percussion, sonar pings and ravey acid lines take things to a wholly different level. ritchs skill is in accumulating layer over layer of effects and then, in a magical instant, stripping things back to raw elements, some of the compressed, filtered breaks on >june< will cause serious dancefloor damage and delight

you might not think youre familiar with kramer, but chances are youve heard his music before. better known as larrson, the berlin-based dj/producer has released a series of acclaimed 12inchs on esteemed labels like traum schallplatten and bpitch control. he now adopts the kramer guise to deliver a 3-track ep of smart electroinfluenced and minimal house on berlins get physical. kramers first forays into music were as a singer, guitarist and songwriter, it was hearing bpitch boss ellen allien dj for the first time that inspired him to make and play electronic music. his rock/funk prehistory is subtly apparent in the eps a1, >runner<, which begins with a warm, rounded kick and busy, clicking percussion before urgent hi-hats and a hard snare sound take over and aim the tune squarely at the dancefloor. the centrepiece of the track, though, is a synth riff that summons a taste of vintage electro, while sounding purely 2007

>the dawn< is a moody, undulating cruiser of a track, which will subtly but surely make a dancefloor feel a sense of sunrise, whatever time of day or night. busy, clicky percussion sets the scene for a full-bodied, rising, almost trancey bassline to take control. t ups the intensity with real dancefloor nous and precision programming, layering distressed synth sounds and heavily treated keys atop each other while never losing sight of the tracks fierce ,fundamental groove. ‘the dawn’ builds and builds, by turns dropping out the percussion and the bassline, every departure and return a heads-down, hands-aloft dancefloor moment. the crisp snares and rich, melodic notes of delay add even more depth to what is already an essential tune. b-side >jam pot< is more playful, and driven by a classic physical bass melody - at once intimate and techy, dubby and dancefloor-urgent, gritty but optimistic. again, the attention to detail on the percussion takes this track to the next level, and jazzy keys provide an organic ontrast to the robotic blips and bleeps.

fortuna marks another debut on get physical, this time from french producer paul ritch and his studio partner, anthony collins. this powerful four-tracker has a more techno approach than usual for the berlin label, but is sure to bring good fortune to any dj that drops it! the title track is an intricately pieced together affair, based on clicky rhythms and hypnotic bleeps that lead to a dark, filtered breakdown that will push the party over the edge whenever its dropped. motion12 continues with this dark theme, as deconstructed slivers of percussion and a nagging, insistent groove provide the backing for an ominous, acid-flecked bassline that keeps on building. drop this in a small, confined space and the club will erupt! pumkin sees ritch & collins explore an experimental: the rhythms still have that clicky, bleepy sound, but this time, there are fx-heavy drums to contend with and a dark, nagging techno riff that insinuates itself through the arrangement to cause melt down on the dance floor.!

the sebo k and metro partnership makes its debut on get physical with >transit<: these upcoming house producers are so hot that this ep almost melts the vinyl that its pressed on! transit looks to the past and the future at the same time: inspired by old school chicago house but boasting a modern techno approach to arranging, the nagging bass riff at the heart of >transit< builds and builds along with sebo and metro s evocative chords to create a track that will raise the roof on any club during the peak time. >transit< never loses its raw, hypnotic groove either, and after it reaches a climax, the sparse, raw rhythm is still there, urging the dancers to keep moving. philly producer king britt dons his scuba hat to provide the remix: its more understated than the original version, based on an off-beat groove, but, like a thief slipping through an open door in the middle of the night, britts reshape gradually introduces the hypnotic chords. before you know it, his remix will have seduced any crowd who love deep, electronic house music. get a move on to pick up on this future house classic!
