Jona is back with Manta: a sick, expertly crafted new E.P. for Get Physical Music. 24-year-old Belgian Jonathan Troupin s true arrival on the house and techno block his debut 12- for Get Physical, The Learnings. Since then, he s chalked up another acclaimed E.P. for Physical, Tizia, not to mention assorted releases for labels like Fumakilla and Resopal Red, and high profile remixes for Michal Ho, Soffy O, Daso and labelmates Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y. Jona doesn t mess about: title track Manta immediately establishes itself as a no-holds-barred, peaktime club weapon, with a hard, pure-of-purpose kickdrum taking centre stage while kinetic drum edits and pressurized FX patter in, out and around it. A dizzying synth motif adds to an already mind-bending brew, while each successive build and drop ravishes the listener into submission. This is music to immerse yourself in, for sure, but above all it s music to really, really dance to. At this point you might expect the pace to let up, but B-side Amon is a similarly hectic, energetic cut. All rolling bassline, acidic synth cycles, crisp percussion, jump-up vocal samples and surging narcotic effects, Amon is a blast of magnificently controlled chaos for the party s more intense moments. The 12- draws to a close with Exoplanet Dub a no less formidable but certainly more spacious club track. its addictive, zig-zagging melodies reminding us of the more playful side to Jona s music. With Manta, Jona furnishes us with three vehement yet elegant tracks guaranteed to turn a dancefloor near you inside out
