this is quite simply one of the most glorious records you will hear this year. it would be easy to lazily reference it against classic period rephlex/planet mu stuff (oops, i just did!), and indeed it appears to share some of the same heritage (even going so far as to feature a remix of rephlex artist global goon in its tracklisting) - but chris leary aka ochre is obviously a man on his own mission. gorgeously lush, but at the same time super-funky�as electronic as kraftwerk starring in a remake of tron, yet somehow as pastoral and organic as edward elgar�much like his label-mate ed chamberlain, leary manages that tricky task of being supremely technical in his programming and arrangements, but without losing the heart and soul of the music amidst all the studio trickery. you know that old chestnut often said when referring to vintage or classic music, >they dont make them like that any more<? well they do�and here it is! simply fantastic.

a fresh addition to the moodmusic roster but a longtime veteran in the house-scene, alexander maier aka dj all*star from stuttgart is well known from his earlier releases on buzzin fly, exun and criminal records. he began his career playing underground techno in south of germany but over the years became more and more influenced by detroit and chicago house. you can hear these influences on sahara in both the rain and river version. deep and reduced grooves with enough soul and atmosphere, yet fully functional for the floor, sahara rain kicks in with a heavy bass sequence building a perfect platform to be followed by the synththeme which hit s the peak hour perfectly. i see some hands going up here already� sahara river starts more housey, building a classy, low-slung huge groove with perculating synths and almost tribal feel to the drums. the modulating synths lifts the track to new heights with a break of superbly layered twisted pads before the drums kick back in in full effect. as this would not be enough we asked our thrusted chicago connection and alexs buddy, mazi aka audio soul project to remix sahara rain. if you consider people who s been in the biz for some time mazi is one of the warriors of the sound, never choosing the easy way but thrustfully following his true way of house music. and house it is, classic but cleverly updated to 2008 with a twist of so-cal thrown in for good measure. bouncey and jacking is the words which comes into mind when hearing this, excellent work and a another bomb for the hot months to come

it hasnt been long time ago since the last coup made by clark and schatz hit the streets but highgrades head-honcho tom clark and the true berlin talent markus schatz allready go for the next round. the original version of >hot choc< makes the start - playfully swinging, the track developes itself into a masterpiece of an easy going groove without being half bad. the french dj and producer tom pooks - well known for this productions on ovum, kompakt and other wellsounding imprints gives >hot choc< a whole lot of jacking energy to take along. he sets the percussive elements free - and rightly so! punch meets hypnotic deepness - perfect! with the hot choc re-edit on the flipside by markus schatz he eventually letting the cat out of the bag. without any detours and in best daniel bell-like mannour he jump into a real inferno made of funky bleeps and weird sounds. delivering with this one more than just another highlight on this release - because last but least it�s the best evidence, you gotta reckon with these two!

in the beginning the was a dream, a dream to become part of the living womb of good music. a dream of being real, true to myself and i set this dream to fly high. days and years passed by and i didn t seem to find response but one day in the arkest hour came the light and then i knew i had to hustle it s a song about my determination to express myself widely whitin the realm of good music, won t be selling my soul, won t be taking the easy path, its all about what is real, training harder and harding until i get what i want: the pure sound of goodness for the dancefloor, for my life and the whole world. that s how i hustle. abicah soul confuzed well this track started as another track but i took the sounds from anohter track put with this that how i came up with the idea confused .i started listening sounded good i stuck with it.onw word deep stephen rigmaiden jeepin basically jeepin was done and i was listening to acapella s for like 2 weeks trying to find the right vocal snippets. my thoughts were how was i going to get franck s interest? i knew the track was done but for him to pick it up it needed a vocal. then i came across the perfect vox. i used a montage of a few different vocals, some hip hop elements, some jazz elements, some gospel elements, ill leave up to you to decipher. i knew i wanted a raw, kinda hip hop type of feelingas well, something you can get on the dance floor and go uggh!, that s my shit!! or damn i gotta get in that circle and show em whats up! i made it for the dancers out there, b- boys, house dancers , or jus ya regular club kids. trying to get the crowd hype is always my intentions , i feel this track does jus that. now get on the dance floor and recognize the sound!

anders trentemøller, the shooting star of 2005, needs no further introduction. he has been stringing together hit after hit, most recently the -nam nam ep- on poker flat which offered an initial insight into his upcoming album -the last resort-. now the new 12- brings the first full-blown single outtake. the featured album track is -always something better � a vocal version featuring richard davis - and has a calmer, almost dreamy mood compared to the club tracks he s released. an easy-going groove, some wonderful celesta chords (hand-played by anders) and the typical trentemøller sound melt with the outstanding vocals by richard davis, who already graced swayzak s -speak easy- on k7. furthermore, davis is known for his longplayers on punkt musik and kitty-yo as well as an array of singles and remixes.a brilliant track with a beautiful atmosphere.of course the a1 slot is reserved for the -trentemøller remix-, a true dancefloor anthem. a kicking bass drum, quirky sounds and the -trentemøller twist- make this a real summer hit. while the a1 mix is a reduced vocal version, you ll find the -dub mix- on b1. to top things off, the one and only matthew herbert contributes his very own interpretation on the -bubble mix-. he disrupts and rearranges the original sounds and song structures to create a new unsettled, but fascinating soundscape

like all dj koze records, knock knock exists outside of trend and influence. in fact, it s a step further beyond: absolutely every single thing here, from grooves to voices to handclaps, is otherworldly and unique. which is not to say it is utterly alien abstraction, mind. there is still disco, there is still soul, there is still techno, there is still hip hop, there is still psychedelia Ð there are even wafts of easy listening, lost crackly thriftstore record memories and... sort of... indie rock Ð but though it may sound familiar, it never does what your brain thinks it s going to do.

earlier this year, danish electronic pioneers laid back released uptimistic music vol 1., their first studio album since 2004. the duos long-awaited comeback was followed by critical acclaim and a series of live performances. while playing festivals in ibiza, georgia, denmark and the faroe islands last summer, john guldberg and tim stahl took the time to put the finishing touches on their upcoming release: uptimistic music, a double album featuring vol.1 and a second record of unreleased material.
