after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.

nearly two years ago we released mys/kela by a newish stockholm-based producer who had put out a couple tracks on a couple labels studio barnhus and local talk owned by friends from around town. that produce s name was hnny and a lot has happened since then, both to him and to us. hes gone on to crank out more l.t. 12inches as well as some hes dropped on his yummy and puss imprints, weve gone on to unleash a couple dozen more records and see the list of talent we ve hosted at our parties grow to astounding length. somehow, through it all, we managed to stay close with hnny, whos real name is johan cederberg, and even book him for a couple nyc gigs. the friendship that began so humbly and gently in 2013 has blossomed.

on naughty, the debut release for brooklyn-based free association, chopped soul vocals bask in the glow of detroit-styled synths. underpinning it all is the kind of low slung machine funk a certain mr. weatherall is known to gravitate towards. no surprise, considering the legend himself licensed name in lights ur oskunni for his masterpiece compilation last year. meanwhile, across town, studio barnhus doyen axel boman continues to chart his own musical path. his rub of naughty explores a warm and measured approach that has already found favor with his heroes, dixon and koze. while bomans gaze is directed towards the heavens, bushwick newcomer cameo culture has his sights set squarely on the floor. a distinctive bounce permeates the work of this budding house producer, who brings an undeniable disco swagger to his remix.

the us born and berlin based walker barnard created a unique ep drawing from his years of experience and studio work with sounds as diverse as hip-hop and minimal techno. featuring the legendary us poet and producer mike ladd and a remix from our good friend iron curtis, the result is something completely different and yet strangely familiar.

for the fourth release on dj koze and marcus finks pampa imprint, hyperactive hotshot house hunk axel boman steps up and delivers a stunning debut ep for the label. since many years an important force on the small but friendly swedish club scene, and one third of the studio barnhus crew together with kornel kovßcs and petter, axel is as experienced a producer as his ideas are fresh.

matt karmil is a british musician currently residing in sweden. ++++ is his third album, following 2014 s pnn debut - - - - and idle033, released on bristol label idle hands earlier this year. his output also includes a variety of singles for labels such as new york s beats in space recordings and stockholm s studio barnhus. on this new album, karmil can be heard exploring the concepts of impossible objects, reflection, symmetry, infinity perspective, truncated and stellated polyhedra - hyperbolic geometry, tessellations and lost love. while making the music that constitutes ++++ he interacted with mathematicians george p—lya, roger penrose and harold coxeter as well as the crystallographer friedrich haag, and also conducted his own research into tessellation. the result is ++++, karmil s most clever, strange, emotional and fun work yet, a testament to his breadth and depth as a musician. did we forget to mention that he s an awesome party dj?
