the bush is a homage to the place where i have lived for the last decade (askew road). the askew road itself is slowly changing so i wanted to document all the places that play a big part in mine and my families lives before they eventually get sold for more flats or tescos. first up was peckings studio 1 record shop, which has been on this stretch of road since the 1960s. next up is the mighty sun pub which became a local talking point when they sold the place because a sign sat in the window that announced this bup is close.

first full ep on fear of flying from label co-founder blm since 2010’s ‘step to this. during this time the london based producers sound has found a home on jus eds underground quality label as well as tusba and the secret sundaze imprint to name a few. * queen of nowhere* is an eclectic mix with * 128 grooves* harking back to the golden era of tech house with its crunchy beats and shards of melody imbuing the track with a sense of warmth . * hmrc* delves into electro territory with a melancholy air whilst the flip sides title track * queen of nowhere* is a straight up slice of no nonsense slammin techno. the ep is rounded off nicely by the more off kilter * i got my beno*, a lovingly deep and blissful breakbeat infused ride, perfect for those after hours sessions.

ltd 2015 repress !! fear of flyings next instalment sees the label launch a vinyl only 4 tracker with revered artist schatrax providing the previously unreleased lead track >get it right<. a booming sub bass, a few cut up disco samples and 5 1/2 minutes later you have another fine addition to mr josh brents exceedingly impressive cv. romanian duo egal 3 round off the a side with more than a nod and a wink in the direction of baby ford / thomas melchior in the minimal trippy beats of in their track >siclam<. label coowner blm gets all dubby on his tribute to daughter / dog love on the flip with northern wonder nyra getting all introspective on the deep and slightly darkly edged >casturize<.

sze is a new london based label emanating from the secretsundaze camp. born from the age old adage of hearing music from friends and artists that didnt fit with the latter’s more refined sound, sze will serve as a more open platform for other forms of dance music be that techno, breakbeat, bass heavy or ambient sounds.

blm, or ben micklewright, has been increasingly on the radar of quality house heads in recent years with output for underground quality and secretsundaze nudging his profile slowly but surely. his stewardship of fear of flying alongside jay massive has resulted in the label, in similarly steady fashion, becoming a mustcheck for fans of the deeper end of house techno who are seeking something that sidesteps trends.blm is at his best when turning in moody, hypnotic and robust house cuts imbued with a distinct uk stylings and that is exactly what he does on *easy knocking* while also turning in electroid tones on opening cut, *paris beatdown*. the result is a classic sounding 4-track ep that has picked up support from efdemin, hackman, djulz, citizen and mosca.

killer groovy deep house tracks !!

matthew styles remixes one of fofs biggest releases of 2010. never straying far from the source material, matthew wraps things up in his usual tight production style, employing a live bass sound and elements of the original melody to give things a tripppier edge than the originals straight up dance floor leanings.
on the flip and walking that fine line between house and techno, blm turns in a very fine and contemporary remix of drake and griifiths >the devils eyes<. dystopian in its outlook, the remix drives along with a simple but full bassline with plenty of dancefloor power.

following on from the superbly received debut release, waiting game, sudden drop produces the goods once more with a split release thats destined to go down well with the more discerning dj.

a lot has happened to blm since his last solo ep back in 2008, fatherhood being the main factor for his absence. thankfully the nappy changing musical magician didnt stop tinkering with his synths in that time has come back with a string of forthcoming productions that mark a real step up in quality for him. so, first up blm releases on home soil on his own fof label. garage is back keeps things silky smooth – simplicity is the key here, the percussive elements building slowly before the evocative vocal of suz brings a hypnotic sexyness to the whole affair. step to this is the logical progression from his last fof release (believe in love) with its skippy beats and uplifting stabs being a sure winner for the coming summer. mulletover promoter / dj / all around sexual dynamo geddes provides a rather splendid dub remix of garage is back on the flip. cleverly using key elements of the original to keep the flava but dipping the tempo to give it more of a groove based feel. we think its a high watermark for the man.. check it

truly beautiful deep house records are things to be treasured, akin to proper songs that will last the test of time, not made to meet a fleeting fad. this is one of those records and a real pinnacle & departure for blm & pawas. although the term deep is an oft overused one, >waiting game< personifies the genres true key traits with a subtly moving groove that gradually builds, using layers of subtle percussion and a rich, warm synth motif to make a rich tapestry of sounds before finally introducing the beautiful female vocal that gives the track its name. patrice scott liked the track so much that he agreed to remix it - his first ever outside of his own, excellent, sistrum label. using plenty of the original track parts but taking it a different direction, patrice really has come up with something special. the track moves along with snippets of the main vocal and clever use of the main synth, the groove being underpinned by patrice s classic sense of production before moving into a more classic >detroit< ending - a mindset with a bigger, more dramatic sensibility

incl. jeff samuel rmx ... fear of flying is new uk label which will be showcasing a large range of music from minimal to house to techno to all in between. the first release comes from new talent, inhouse producer and part label owner blm and the up and coming marc ashken (leftroom, safari electronique)!!

eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

fear of flying return after a lengthy hiatus to celebrate their 10 year anniversary 6 months after it happened. so, tracks from label mainstay blm butt up against newer artists from across the eu, combining together to make a flavoursome sonic stew.

** ltd 2016 repress ** the next release on fofs deeper house offshoot sees the labels roster swell to include two producers who are ascending the ranks, their recent >gruff it< track on the hotter than hot >visionquest< label has turned a heads and they look set to continue their upward trajectory. matthew has also released solo projects on john shepheards >retrofit< label as well as providing the debut release for sammy ds >ultrastretch< label. not only that but matthew is currently in the middle of his summer residency at berlins much revered club der visionaere. >take me away< is a pure slice of chord driven deep house and as such is a slight departure for the duo, the melodies inclining towards more melancholic feelings. remixes come from recent fof favourite scahtrax who strips the track right back, injecting a booming bass heavy kick drum & atmospherics to lend the track a more hypnotic tone. label co-owner blm injects a dubbier feel into his take on the flip. finally, matthew burton goes solo for >tell them phill sent ya< - a loose limbed dancefloor workout reminiscent of perlon in their pomp.

illusion limited is the limited press sister label to illusion recordings. the label will shine light on new artists and sounds not currently represented on illusion. the first release kicks off with the highly talented manchester based artist seelie who delivers two slices of subtle, classy deep house. this ep has been a while in the making and shows a real development in seelie s sound from classic house to deep textured and hypnotic house. blm provides a huge remix on the a side stripping things back and letting the analogue bline and minimaistic drums create a heady, yet dancefloor track. dilated pupils provide a unqiue broken beat remix of the hypnotic desire on the b-side to round things off and kick off this label in style.
