den krebstod seines onkels verarbeitete hey champ-mitglied saam hagshenas beim schreiben zweier songs, mit denen er zugleich einen musikalischen richtungswechsel vollzog. statt des gut gelaunten, french-pop-inspirierten indietronics von hey champ drosselte hagshenas das tempo und ließ elemente aus r&b, soul und hiphop mit einfließen. so entstanden mit »calling out« und »diamond« zwei songs, die förmlich nach einer neuen formation schrien.
