in advance of new music from ben frost in 2017, bedroom community is excited to present the definitive recorded version of his 2013 opera and directorial stage debut, the wasp factory, based on the novel by the late iain banks.
setting his unwitting characters against the backdrop of vast, implacable forces of nature - storm, sea, fire, and even their own madness - frost reaches deep into his formidable arsenal to reveal an unexpected warmth, from the composer of electronic experiments like aurora and theory of machines. the focus here is on the live sound of the reykjavík sinfonia, recorded in abbey road’s studio ii and, for the first time, the human voice. he sets david pountney’s libretto to tuneful, even soulful vocal lines, an extraordinarily unreliable narrator describing scenes of extreme violence and horror in music of incongruous loveliness.

so what is after the void ... we bang the bomb of course with a lady in a thong surrounded by snakes and hand grenades, obvious really! having been away for some time it appears that a light sounds dark spring is in the air. en route to their next destination (rumoured to be a dark subterranean world full of nasty mutants danger electrified tracks out this summer) with arms out the window and the mothership roof down, its full steam ahead and proper european dance music time. not really train spotting as before although a couple are a bit off piste like maltas very own ian dury by the name of iain richardson rapping about sitting on a green bus! much more like it however are classic italo covers of big in japan, gloria, a wonderful new wave version of falcos euro smash der kommissar and the thoughts massive german hit wait a long time sounding like some long lost talk talk record. light sounds dark do some minor tweaking (going for that natural look) to big beast anthems axodrys you and colme 111s you take me high (early euro take on chicago) and for lovers of something a bit more funky theres some groovy goings on from kraut funksters epsilon urging people to leave the city which might not be a bad idea if the water runs out.

formed by snow patrols gary lightbody as an outlet for his fascination with country music, tired pony began taking shape in may 2009. by october, the solo project had grown into a full-fledged supergroup featuring another snow patrol veteran, iain archer, his wife miriam kaufmann, producer/musician jacknife lee, belle & sebastian percussionist richard colburn, auxiliary r.e.m. member scott mccaughey, and troy stewart. peter buck joined several months later, and tired pony traveled to portland in early 2010 to record the debut album. featuring guest appearances by zooey deschanel, m. ward, and editors frontman tom smith, >the place we ran from< was finished in one week and released later that year.
