italo disco

fantasy life was a one-off italo disco studio project that consisted of various producers, songwriters, and vocalists from turin, italy. the line-up included lorenzo avico, maurizio camoletto and sergio bergamin. they recorded their only single ?over and over? at minirec studio in 1985 with mixing engineer gigi guerrieri. it was released that same year by thick record a sublabel of il discotto productions and became one of the most coveted italo disco 12?s. ?over and over? is a parable that describes the story of a girl growing up, comparing her life to the changes of the moon. signature linn drum and simmons drums create the driving rhythm track that hauntingly sways back and forth. the vocal version has a nearly two minute extended instrumental break in the middle of the song heightening the dramatic pace. on the b-side is a dub version with extended instrumental breaks, bass lines and occasional vocals. both songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the vinyl is housed in the original jacket featuring a painting by andrea franzoso and includes a double sided postcard with lyrics and notes.

dark entries editions is proud to reissue ghost town the 1984 debut 12inch single by mono band from italy. the project was conceived by producer rene d herin and massimo fantinatiti aka fantenax. they teamed up with songwriter and guitarist luigi venegoni aka svengile who had previously worked with progressive and jazz-rock bands arti & mestieri and venegoni & co. as well as cosmic disco group stratosferic band. treading the lines between italo disco and the darker side of new wave, the trio crafted a mysterious sound. melancholic arpeggiators, a throbbing baseline, stuttering samples, and the classic linn drum machine run throughout the track. vocals were handled by an uncredited carlo rossi who raps about a ghost town filled with fear. when female vocalist elena sansonetti begins to softly whisper the chorus one might get goose bumps. the trio were joined in the studio by dj mike aka michele paolino of make up/mike up, dj moody, fabrice bellini of art fine and producer miceli. the song was recorded in a few days at dynamo sound studio in turin and originally released on the popular discomagic records. this reissue includes the original vocal version, backed with a longer dubbed out instrumental ?ghost version? on the b-side. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the 12inch is housed in an exact replica of the original sleeve with an astrological photo the planets orbiting the sun. each copy also includes a 2-sided postcard.

dark entries is honored to release a 4-track ep by red axes, the prolific production duo of dori sadovnik and niv arzi from tel aviv. the pair were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as i?m a clich?, correspondant, and hivern discs. ?nyx tape? features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. first up is the slick electro anthem ?5 min? another collaboration with french-canadian born singer chlo? raunet aka c.a.r. followed by ?nyx tape? featuring charismatic singer-lyricist gina kikoine aka gina x, who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single ?no gdm? that was a huge anthem on the tel aviv 80s underground scene. the track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with gina?s ice cold teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the jewish mourners? prayer ? the kaddish. on the b-side ?destination moon? by solid space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an adrian sherwood dub. closing this ep is a hypnotic edit of ?la machine ? r?ver? by french bedroom synth freaks x-ray pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. all songs have been mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the ep is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by eloise leigh representing nyx, the greek goddess of the night. each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.

we have been waiting for pele to crop up on a release from the footy mad rothmans and what a time to play that hand card. teaming up once more with his aussie team mate dawn again and a first apperance from leeds legends clandestino. the first track from the ep cobblejam is nothing short of first class, a worthy italo, chuggy, powerhouse that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. the b-side finds us with the slightly strangely named woman for a day theres nothing strange about the track itself though. a deep and dark track that slowly drives forward into the abyss. finishing off the record is an excellent remix from the lads over at clandestino. their dessert trance vibe brings the record together as sweetly as pele brought together that 1970 world cup winning team.

following their album save! aka colder & mutado pintado are back on dlm, with another deadly attack! kamikaze style. we ve been waiting a longtime for an i:cube remix. we ve been fans and friends since his debut and we love that he strayed from his more technoey recent work, as great as it is. this is full on psychedelia, almost rock in its approach. a trip, not a track. russia s great hope (not ivan drago), lipelis, hot on the wheels of his macdonald flack and the ack-ack pack pack remix delivers two radicals/tangents. police & robbers. they fly high, both in their own manner. rainy monday is dubbed out in space with that jungle screw feel. slowed down breaks that are all the rage with the yoof, apparently but lipelis takes it to another level. last floor his version of darkness in the middle is a trickster, you d think almost ambient kraut before you end up on an italo-piano-expansives beach.

in collaboration with present books we are happy to present you ‚kätze‘ - a story accompanied by a soundtrack, both written by yannick labbe, krätze is about all the dirt that is to be found beneath the polished surface of our little lives. the book, which was designed by our boy wonder florian seidel, evolves around a modern man living in circles. he is seemingly unable to confront his faults, so he distracts himself with superficial friendships, looking good on the outside and a lot of medication.&#8232,,,,,,, on the soundtrack yannick boils down some dark italo, some playful weird house, some dirty drums and basslines as well as relentless rhythms to a highly potent 5- tracker. there are some 6am basement rollers on this as well as tracks that can be played to accompany a sunrise at an open air beach stage. yet they all have that certain two-sidedness in common, reflecting the idea of the book in a subtle way. krä,tze is nasty. krätze is dirty. krätze is not easily explained. but a little krätze lives inside all of us.

at the forefront of the irish electronic music scene, sligo-born berlin-based duo brame & hamo, aka tiarnan mcmorrow and conor hamilton, announce their hotly anticipated fourth ep, celebrity impersonator. via their own imprint, brame & hamo. the title reflects the duos personality and playful energy, nodding to their love of celebrity impersonators whilst growing up. we have a bit of a soft spot for impersonators as it is a pretty ridiculous way to earn a living. a bit like djing! our favs were those of tom cruise, bill gates, gordon ramsay and johnny depp. opening with ‘midnight express, the rolling melodics nod to the early sounds of prog house and italo, acting as a transitional opener to their signature trance via techno scores. on the b-side, title track ‘celebrity impersonator, is a moody four four that edges into the darker realms with their love of breakbeat shimmering through, resulting in a club ready anthem. melting down into a rolling trance groove with a late night heady feel, ‘request rhythm closes the ep. with an impressive discography of eps behind them on their own imprint - trants, club orange and the dj favourite, limewire, as well as bookings worldwide the irish pair are set to propel onwards from sligo to berlin and beyond.

on the b side, san francisco based dutch artist, yobkiss, offers up a masterful remix taking the track into darker electro territory. his offering includes beautifully haunting japanese vocals by the producer’s long time collaborator yuko araki for exceptional exotiqueness.

yandom are not new to the scene. but then again they are. the project has been kicked off by yannick labbe and dominik marz, already renowned producers and djs before they decided to join forces in in january of 2017 with their remix for dekodeko on leipzig-based label ors. yandoms productions are discoid excursions to the dark side a sound spanning from leftfield italo-esque productions to straight up techno-bangers. a sound already loved and played by artists like michael mayer, solomun, kornel kovacs and many more. at the moment, yandom are working on eps following their next release on &nd music (scheduled for september 2017). as djs, yandom deliver an infectious and very musical freestyleapproach, dropping anything from techno to vintage classics and held together by a strong foundation of electronica. a yandom-set is anything but random and yes, they do look as good in reality as on the photos.

fleeting wax hits its third release with this bout of sinister, sleek disco for the darker dancefloor that finds bucharest-based duo valeriu borcos and eduard gabia getting remixed from a strong cast of characters. the ever prolific khidja is up first, turning -choose your colour gypsy dark- into a brooding, almost-rocking affair with an irresistible noirish tint to it. the label heads then get busy with a version that ups the arpeggios in a nod to italo amidst plenty of dubby fx, before mehmet aslan stretches out across the b-side with a more yearning version that lets a little light in on the situation. it s a diverse, potent bag of versions that do credit to the original while saying something new as well.

to wrap up 2016, true romance unleashes one more disco stunner. this time the fabulous three tracks 12 comes from the classically trained yet funky to the bone: phil gerus. the russian producer has been a rising force of the modern disco movement with releases on futureboogie, sonar kollektiv, thugboat edits to name a few. the make time ep, his first offering on true romance, confirms gerus is here to stay. the a side, she is wearing her black boots again, is meant to played very loud and very late in a dark smoke-filled room. its a raw thumper with a thick post-disco bass line, robotic italo synth, dreamy chopped up vocals all layered with catchy mysterious chords. the flipside starts with the irresistible make time, a groovy number with loopy funk guitars, soulful vocals and infectious keys that will stick to you like glue. for the grande finale, gerus serves us detective from kamakura: a gritty electronic funk track with banging percussions and delirious moans that will keep you awake until the break of dawn.

after releasing his sophomore long player we walked home together through fiakun, el_txef_a returns with a series of remix packs, the first bringing us to the darkest side of the album. not only is this the first remix ep part of a triptych, its also the start of a new label, forbidden colours. the forbidden colours label will provide a space for the basque producer to explore and share his musical vision. the ep starts off with eduardo de la calles take on claim of planet earth, pulling us through an impressive analogue journey. while the black madonna displays her particular vision of italo with some serious bassline action. permanent vacations lake people turn every day is blue monday into a mystical acid trip. the tel aviv based duo deepa & biri reinterpretate claim of planet earth into a deep yet gentle track. finally andres aguirre gives the love we lost brings the reworks home with a true dancefloor club mix. the vinyl release will be limited to 200 copies

disco fizz is the second album by italian disco group azoto. many say that azoto pioneered the whole italo sound, with incredibly ahead of their time productions going right back too 1977. disco fizz may contain one of the most covered disco tracks of all time san salvador, which has reared its head under countless of remixes and pop cover versions, however if you dig a little deeper this album is packed full of incredible and timeless italo disco. anytime or place literally jumps out the speakers to get you moving, while >exalt exalt< showcases their take on the darker side of electronic disco.

>jurassico< is the third release from nemesi a.k.a. gianluca pandullo of i-robots and ebbro fame and alessandro lestino. on the epic nine minute ‘jurassico’, nemsi elements of krautrock, 70’s german electronica, old school italo-electro and the darker side of 80’s rock to come up with something seriously cosmic. prins thomas b-side version probes and emphasises the more rhythmic elements of the track which results in a real disco banger.

two more excellent works from the wurst edits label. this time my cousin roy delivers the good with the electro italo disco tweaked class of frozen sitting on the a side while in for it is a more percussive dark disco cut that builds and evolves the longer the track goes on. top stuff.
