n our extremely talented artist pool we have the luxury of being able to work with local icelandic talent and for our 6th instalment in the lagaffe series we managed cook up a long awaited collaboration with a close friend and producer intr0beatz. intr0beatz has been known in the local music scene for quite some time and became one of the most iconic hip hop producers in iceland with the group forgotten lores. after the scene evolved and took changes intr0beatz reinvented himself as a house music producer. with intr0beatz you never go wrong. a long time hip-hop producer went housey on us, and he got the groove. house and old school hip-hop have a lot in common sampling and chopping old disco/soul tracks is the foundation of both. so this came naturally for him. the four-tracker includes the tracks dumpin (a1), mystery ride (a2), tapas (b1) and desco (b2).
lagaffe tales starts 2018 with an anticipated collaboration with the icelandic artist ilo that has been some years in the making. with an amazing track record and fantastic edits over the years we are honoured to finally have had the chance to release him. take you to love consists of two tracks, (a1) take you to love and (b1) miracles that each have their own side. due to the length of the tracks they have the ability to draw the attention in and take the listener on a ride through ilo s soundscape.
we are extremely happy to have malouane, co-founder of in any case records on board with us at lagaffe tales. this fourth vinyl release consists of what could be reckoned as a mini-lp that travels through malouane s personal space of influences. the release is filled with rich and soulful samples accompanied by warm saturated drum work with an ethnic feel from start to end.
tale of tales is a sampler release from the lagaffe tales family pool. in this third vinyl release and our second tale you will find tracks by the local felix leifur, the swedish sune, the german duo coeo and moony me. this tale is a celebration of our ventures as a label and seals the memories we have with each artist
our second vinyl release features four tracks from our own icelandic moff & tarkin. big mango bangers gives us a good taste of the fresh style that the vienna based producer has to offer. the a side has two great danceable house tracks, naked and i got this that should rock any good dancefloor with some superb sample action. the b side really ties up the record and features mutual distraction a house track with an 80s vibe and skutla a synthony which could really break up and reset the mood as a dj tool. each tracks has a place and the record is a great example of the diversity we try to encourage. supported by: shur-i-kan, harry wolfman, jacques renault, moony me, loz goddard, nachtbraker, dj caspa, craig smith, simba, l atelier, borg ltd etc.
repress, this year we have reached our long term goal as a label which was to expand our releases into the wax department. we feel like we ve done a good job bringing upcoming and original local talent to the surface so far and it is only fitting that our first vinyl release is done by the icelandic duo david & hjalti. the duo has been busy with the production since their arrival from manchester and have played a number of great live sets underlining their skills as producers. we feel that this release is the high standard we set ourselves before going vinyl and that this is just a small first step in a fruitful beginning for the producers david & hjalti.
lagaffe tales co-founder jónbjörn drops four tracks on icelands falk records beat driven sub-label, falk disks. since 2008 falk (fuck art lets kill) has become a creative hub for icelandic and international artists involved in experimental and electronic music, spanning noise rock through to power electronics, underground hip-hop to diy techno and electro. 2017 saw falk continue with releases from icelandic hip-hop producer lord pusswhip, techno/electro producer thizone and canadian industrial techno musician /ϟ,,,/huren/ϟ,,,/. berlin based icelandic producer jónbjörn, known for curating reykjavík record label lagaffe tales – one of the main pillars in the icelandic house scene – now joins falks’ club focused sub-imprint with a robust four tracker. moving away from the deep house sound hes renowned for towards a darker and leaner night time aesthetic, amsiak inaugurates the release with an infectious electro groove as gurgling pings and acidic clangs and drones are liberally dropped throughout the track. aspekte is a spacious track with blown-out bass sounds that morph and glide across a tempered, slow burning planar rhythm. on the flip, jonbjörn goes for a harder techno sound influenced by his relocation to berlin. sunnudagskaffi is a bendy, 4/4 roller that contains hidden grooves below the basslines and the acid pings that wouldnt be out of place on a livity sound release. meanwhile, holy b is pure warehouse creeper techno, complete with machinic tones and the atmospherics of sweat and grime on dungeon brick walls.
delakeyz is swiss producer melodiesinfonieÆs moniker when taking a journey into more housey realms. on this voyage he explores his musical roots in three percussive-driven belters that still manage to maintain the subtle melodic textures that we all love from melodiesinfonies work. manchesters own contours (rhythm section int./ banoffee pies) picks up the more gentle tone of the original in his remix of walkingfree while moony mes (uncanny valley/ lagaffe tales) interpretation of our roots is a full-fledged club heater. early support by marcel vogel, harvey sutherland, s3a, chaos in the cbd, nachtbraker
new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.
