ein meisterwerk aus dem jahre 1976 wird offiziell als lp-vinyl wiederveröffentlicht. king tubby (bürgerlich osbourne ruddock) ist die lichtgestalt des dub reggae, die tragischerweise am 06.02.1989 im alter von 48 jahren bei einem raubüberfall erschossen wurde. surrounded by the dreads- erschien ursprünglich auf dem wenig bekannten fay music label des produzenten winston edwards und wurde mit den musikern der natty locks band in king tubbys studio eingespielt. auf drei der zwölf stücke sind die stimmen von tony brevett (von den melodians), prince heron und carvin bradford zu hören.

erstmalige nachpressung seit der urspruenglichen lp vinyl veroeffentlichung im jahr 1986! turbo charged wurde von king jammy aka prince jammy produziert und gilt seit mitte der 80er als meilenstein des reggae & dancehall - hier finden sich die hits hog in a minty (ein update des mento traditionals auf dem tempo riddim), gimme some of your something, und down in the ghetto (auf dem satta riddim), rub a dub a kill you (auf dem rockfort rock riddim), plus amazing grace (auf dem java riddim). das leben des nitty gritty (bürgerlich: glen augustus holeness) war tragischerweise sehr kurz, er wurde 1991 in brooklyn, new york von seinem kollegen super cat in notwehr erschossen - aber dieses zeitlose album hat ihn unsterblich gemacht

der longplayer von 2006, mit dem tarrus riley den internationalen durchbruch schaffte, ist wieder als vinyl erhältlich! mit parables wurde der sänger zu einem der weltweit bekanntesten zeitgenössischen sänger des reggae, als produzent fungierte dabei dean fraser. dieser hatte die tuff gong und grafton studios angemietet (mit shane brown und rohan dwyer am mischpult) und mit einer ganzen armada an topmusikern den longplayer realisiert, der bis heute von vielen fans als das beste tarrus riley album gefeiert wird.
